Skill Point Distribution

I know everyone's freaking out about not being able to log on, but might as well kill some time with forum posts eh? (That's right. Blame the Canadian...)
Anyways, as I'm starting fresh on PS4, I'm wondering how I'm gonna distribute the skill points on my main. He'll be a NB DPS, etc etc. The problem comes with crafting. Is it efficient to invest skill points into crafting on my main, or should I power level alts and use those? I'll be needing clothing, smithing, alchemy, and probably woodworking (lategame I'll be aiming for the Master's Bow but obviously I'll need stuff to fill the gap). So, what should I do? Find a happy medium and craft on my main, or use alts to craft? Will I be able to balance the skill points so I can get adequate passives (and morphs and such) to be able to actively pvp and pve, or is it too much as a low level character?

    i personally like to use alts lol. but like anyone on here will tell you its probably best to play however you feel like playing lol. i will say as well when i first started i did crafting on my main too but soon felt nervous about the amount of skill points i would have. so i made alts :open_mouth:

    You'll get a mix of responses on this one, some do it all on one, some split them up. It is possible and convenient to do all crafting on one character, personally, I split mine up to not stress the skill points since I do play them all.

    One tip I can give you though, if you do split them try to put the equipment crafting on one (wood, smith, clothier) so you only need to get the motifs on one character.

    It can be done on one character but there are very good reasons to not do them on one character.
    I had all crafting on my main but I moved 3 of them on alts. I am not actually using all the points. I only take what I know I need and use regularly.I have around 100 unused skill points which means that a respec costs me 5k less and I always have flexibility to make major spec changes fast. If they had a convenient dual spec option I would have probably kept everything.

    Thanks for the tips guys. Around what level should my main be that I should start levelling up alts to craft? When should I stop just using the gear I find lying around, or should I even start with that?

    Craft what you'll use on your main (only add points to add levels as you level, unless you intend to craft for $).

    Keep excess mats on Alts.

    There are more than enough SkillPoints to be had to cover your weapons, armor, provo, enchanting, and alchemy in addition to the skills you will use.

    Later, when you've researched everything, you can pull some of the points back out (decrease research time / multiples at once), for instance.

    By crafting for your main on your main, you'll only have to shuffle mats around, not the gear itself.

    Side note: The other advantage to sharing the love is the ability to decon something you've made but no longer use via an alt crafter - you'll get more mats back than if you decon an item the same character previously made, even though they're tied to the same account.
    Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

    It is possible to focus on crafting and other combat abilities and skills,, along with all 3 equipment lines, and still have some spare at the end. For me, I still have 30 skill points to allocate after everything. I can also heal or dps, if needed be.

    But as others suggested, placing crafts on another character is a great suggestion. But once you're at end game, you already know what skills and passives you will need or use over and over.

    Right at the end you will have 280 Skillpoints and 330 with Allianc Rank 50.

    You will Need ~120 to max crafting out.

    I done the same, just maxed crafting on my main and still have enought Points left for 3 Weapons 2 Armors all Klass Skills Race Passive, Some Guild Skills, Full Skilled WW, and some Alliance Skills and still will get 30 more

    I maxed out all crafting on my first char, a V14 DK. I didn't bother with putting a 3rd skill point in stuff like hiring, etc. The skill point return just isn't worth it. That char does just fine with sword/sheild and bow plus DK, Ftr guild, Mage guild skills. I actually have skill points left over in case I need them. However I've noticed with my Socr and NB, getting them maxed out on all crafting skills might be pushing it too far, because of all the skill points needed in secondary skills those chrs need to be really effective. All my chrs have maxed out provisioning and alchemy because it's easier to just craft potions and food I need for each chrs, then switching back and forth.

    Well here is what I do... I temporarily respec every 10 levels or so. I then fill up SPs into my three crafting skills (Blacksmithing, Clothing and Woodworking), and then spend a day or two farming mats. I then create three sets of set armor- allowing for changing armor every four levels. Once done, I respec back to my 'combat' skill point focus. This way I don't have to level up an alt, I can continue leveling my main's crafting skills by buying and deconstructing high level gear. Once I get more SPs, then I will invest directly into those crafting skills on a permanent basis, but at lower levels, there aren't enough SPs to spread around. As of now, I am only level 18 but have reached level 15 on two, and 16 on the third, of those crafting skills.

    Any tips on when I should start allocating points into passives? I'm a bit of a min maxer, so should I save some points for when I hit 15 and can weapon swap or should I just stick to my first bar and use those points? I used to play PC but I completely forgot how I did it lol.

    with limited slots on your action bars, I think the more passives you have, the better you are.

    If you want to invest heavily into crafting on a main character, I suggest you find each and every single skyshard you possibly can. You'll always be hurting for skill points.

    My main since launch on PC has been a khajiit nightblade, but he's also been my only crafting character. I maxxed out blacksmithing, woodworking, and clothing, and it easily took more than half of the skill points he's got right now. That's also leaving out things like the glowing resource nodes perks, which I didnt find all that helpful and a waste of skill points.

    PS4 / NA
    M'asad - Khajiit Nightblade - Healer
    Pakhet - Khajiit Dragonknight - Tank
    Raksha - Khajiit Sorcerer - Stamina DPS
    Bastet - Khajiit Templar - Healer
    Leonin - Khajiit Warden - Tank

    Many great points have been mentioned above, i might just summarize some of the discussions below:

    Dedicated Crafting Alt Option:
    - Best to have one character doing the main equipment crafting (Blacksmith, Clothier, Woodworker) as you'll only need one motif set (changes the items appearance);
    - I would recommend having him around level 40 with a few extra skill points from Sky Shards, Dungeons, and the main quest line;
    - Level 40 will allow you to invest all the skill points in these three crafts (~20 points needed in each craft to be efficient)

    The greatest benefits you will get are:
    - One stop crafting shop, no switching characters for different crafts or re-speccing;
    - Surplus of skill points on non-crafters (at level 15, with two ability bars, you'll need 24 skill points to morph all slotted skills, then on top of that you will want to invest in passives, guild skills, PvP skills, and others);
    - Extra skill points will make your character significantly stronger and leveling easier;
    - Ability to track and monitor researching easily from one character;
    - One person carrying mats <--- this is a huge bonus, trust me!

    This is just a brief list of some aspects highlighted by other players, It's also how I've set up my account which works well for my play style.

    Hope it helps!

    Thanks guys. Gonna level my main till I feel like I need some good crafted gear (I'll just play it by ear), then I'll just level up my alt. Great tips guys, I hope more people than just me find this useful.
