Why is everything valued at 0 with merchants?

Hi guys,
I pick up items that say, value 18. But when I try and sell it, it's valued at 0? Quite a lot of things are valued at 0!
If your carrying to much gear and want to sell it, there's not point as it's not worth anything?

Are the items RED? I don't steal much in ESO and I've never tried to sell stolen items. I assume you pilfered them. In that case, you'll need to sell them to a fence or launder them. Here is a guide!

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.

A large number of items you pick up in containers will be for crafting, and for the most part have no value. Any weapon or armour item from a container will be valued at 0, and yield no mats through deconstruction but will still give xp. Even later in the game, unless the item has a trait like intricate or is a green or higher level item it will have no value.

This has always made me scratch my head. Seems no point at all in having weapons and armour in containers.

All weapons and armour looted from the dead have value, though, and will yield mats through deconstruction. Stolen weapons and armour from racks is a third normal value, but are good if you want to gain materials or experience.

    You will make gold... Eventually....

Hmmm, I found a staff and when I picked it up, it said value 15? So I assume I can sell it for 15 no??
Also does destroying items give you anything?

Dunno...that staff will yield mats if it has a value. No matter what it will give a little xp. But I don't know why it would say its worth 15 and then drop to 0. Perhaps this is to do with character level? I will have to find out more.

If it shows a value it should sell for that to vendors unless it is stolen or if it is bound. except of crafting items some of them will show a value but then have no value if you try to vendor them
Magic is impressive but now Minsc leads SWORDS FOR EVERYONE!!

Thanks guys, everything I have either shows up 0 or 2 for value, that ranges from consumables to weapons and armour, nothing I have is stolen. It's the same for two of my buddies as well???

Sounds like a UI error. If it has a value when you pick it up, whether or not it is stolen, it should retain that value. Try telling it and watch the amount of gold you have in your inventory and see if the amount is applied even though it says 0 in the vendor inventory.

I remember there had been a UI bug like this a couple of months after the PC version was released last year.
Far too many characters to list any more.
  • JarekReanimated
Same goes for me. If it shows value when I pick it up or look at it in my inventory, it sells for 0.

There have only been a few items of value that actually sold for said value, and those were quest items.

If it is an UI error, test sell something. Take note of how much gold you have before and after selling it.

I do know on PC the white value items you pick up in the environment are valued at 0 as well as a few white value items from containers. It is possible that these are the items OP is trying to sell, but the UI is giving them a value when it should not.

Thanks guys, just frustration as you know, when your lower level, you don't have a lot of space in your inventory or bank, so it my eyes, best thing to do is sell it...will try again later and see what happens.

Some white loot from containers (e.g. armour, weapons, jewellery) has 0 value. This was put in, I guess, to prevent gold farming by simply looting every container and selling the loot, especially when looting had no consequences before the Justice System was implemented.

There are a few green/blue weapons, armour and rings/necklaces in containers that do have value. Some other materials may or may not be sold for gold. In any case, looting is only a good way to make gold if you go for purple and gold items (recipes and motifs that can be sold for a few k to about 30k gold on PC) or green/blue/purple items from the Justice System (green are worth 100 each, blue are 250 and purple are 750, though extremely rare) that you can sell to fences in Outlaws Refuges.

Other than selling loot, you can use it to craft (food, drinks, gear, etc.) or deconstruct in order to level up your crafting and obtain more crafting materials.

Hmmm, well everytime I deconstruct/ destroy an item, my skill hasn't increased? When I put an enchantment on a weapon/gear my enchantment don't increase, or is that on a enchantment table?

I was hoping from this game, everything like skyrim but online lol

The reason a lot of these items have a value of 0 is because of bottling.

Gold sellers would have bots teleporting around the world collecting these items and then selling them.

Remove the profit = remove the bots.

Applying an enchant to a weapon doesn't increase your enchanting skill. Creating and deconstructing glyphs does (just like with the other crafts).

Now the fastest way to level a craft is to deconstruct items made by another character. So if you can find another player that wants to level, you can "leapfrog" by making stuff for the other to deconstruct.

False and false - armor and weapon stolen from instanced shops both from racks and not has value and increes your insiration. But only from shops that you need to enter afaik.

Items that are worthless will be sold for 0 like wheat, flour, free shields off racks that aren't stolen, weapons etc. These items will not improve your crafting either. Items from enemies, quests etc those will improve that skill line etc. Keep in mind however, this isn't skyrim online. There's going to be more of an mmo structure to it.

The 0 value rack weapons do give inspiration, but it is so low you have to take note of the actual numbers on the bar to notice it.
