Do you mean is there any storylines involving the Alliance War in PvE?

Like the DC Army invading Stonefalls and Bal Foyen? Or the AD insurgency/guerilla warfare in Shadowfen?

I havent played enough into DC to know whats going with them but I assume they have similar stories going on involving the AD and EP and vice versa for the AD.

The Alliance War in PvE isnt expanded on any further beyond that point as the remaining storylines revolve around the different races and their own internal issues. The only other time you find yourself kind of dealing with the Alliance War is near the end where youre preparing to take the fight to Molag Bal. But its really just a bunch of bickering and nothing special.

Im hoping with areas like Murkmire and Wrothgar opening up at some point that those areas the Alliance War becomes a part of the plot. I dont want the Alliance War to become completely pointless because they dont care to return to it as a plot.

No, they are separate. Alliance War only takes place in Cyrodiil. All other zones are PvE.

PvP is not required to finish the game, but there are a couple skill lines that are only available to those who participate in PvP.

So PvP is where the true experience is?? Did they pay less focus on PvE?? Im only afraid that if i play PvP, i will be facing players with 10x the level i am and killed instantly. Im not even close to good at PvP.

So you cant take strongholds or lose em?? Im just trying to understand how PvE and PvP differs in ESO. I have heard that the game is PvE focused.

Alliance ownership of PVE zones are unchanging. Towns, forts etc never change hands. You can only go to enemy owned zones at Veteran rank, and then only as part of the Cadwell's Silver and Gold quest lines (where you get to do all the quests as a guest in enemy lands).

There's only one zone where alliance ownership of forts and strongholds changes hands, Cyrodiil. This is a pretty big zone where battle is constantly raging. To visit Cyrodiil you need to join a campaign. A campaign is a copy / instance of Cyrodiil. There are several per megaserver, each with its own duration and ruleset.

There is one non-veteran Cyrodiil campaign per megaserver, called Blackwater Blade. If you join this your stats are boosted by the Battle Levelling system so that lower level players can compete. If you aren't yet at veteran level its probably not a good idea to join a veteran campaign because although you'll still be boosted, the ceiling of player power is higher. So from level 1-50 join Blackwater Blade.

Can i play PvE and join the campaign at any time?? Is that pvp or pve??

I like the idea of big battles. Like 3 factions taking forts and such. Like Skyrim where u help one side take the forts. Im hoping i can join the campaign through PvE so i can enjoy the game.

Anytime from level 10 and up, you can open alliance war and travel to Cyrodiil. That is currently (thankfully imo) the only place pvp interactions take place. It is there within Cyrodiil where you take forts and fight the other factions.

The normal leveling areas, Cold Harbour and Craglorn have no pvp and you are phased in with only the faction you chose, so running around doing pve at say level 25 you will only see/play with your own faction.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

Yes, you can join a campaign at any time after level 10. Just bring up the Alliance War menu and look for the Blackwater Blade non-veteran campaign.

Inside the campaignl, as well as the 3-way player battle for forts, there's also some PVE objectives (skyshards, dungeons, daily quests) so you can level up in the PvP zone if you wish (there's a risk of being ganked of course). Or you can return to the PVE zones and level up via normal questing.

Sounds like i can join pvp at level 15 and then go back to pve. So its not locked?? I thought there was a pvp and pve servers. But from what im hearing, the system is similar to Defiance where its all pve and you can join a pvp war then go back to pve as soon as it was done.

That sounds like a really good idea imo. Ok next question, if you die in pvp, do you respawn or are you out for that war??

I preordered the game for the X1 so im trying to learn as much as i can

Another player can revive you or you can respawn at a safe location. Forts currently in a fight will not allow you to travel to them. You have to chose the nearest safe one and ride your way back to battle, hopefully without running into a gank team.

Level 15 is a good time to start in PvP as that's when you gain weapon swapping and a second quickbar.

If you die in a PvP campaign you can be resurected by other friendly players. If this isn't possible you can respawn. Where you are able to respawn depends on the battle situation. Usually it's the nearest keep / fort which isn't under attack. You then port or ride back to the action, which might take a few minutes depending on the battle situation.

You can bounce back and forth as you like, yes.
The only inconvenience you suffer for PVP death is the need to respawn (or get rezzed). Respawning can be done at any keep your alliance owns that is Not under attack or at the main spawn gates. Then you have to run/ride back to the battle.

My best advice to you would be to join a PVP guild if you plan on going out there for support, build advice and numbers so you don't get killed instantly and frequently while learning.

If you have lots of time, read over the threads in forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/categories/alliance-war section. Being new, you might not quite understand everything but more information never hurts.

Best advice if you plan to do some non-veteran PvP is:

    1) Wait until level 15 when you get your second hotbar (see below for why).

    2) Everyone needs some self-healing in PvP. If your class has good self-healing abilities (eg Templar or Dragon Knight) this should be enough. But if not, you will probably want to use a Restoration Staff as your second weapon and swap to it as needed (which is why its best to wait until level 15 before doing PvP, unless you're playing support).

    3) Be prepared to group up. A good PvP guild is great if you can find one. But in non-veteran PvP there's usually a healthy pick up group scene. Until you learn the ropes, it's best to run with a group. Make sure to stick with your group leader (who will show as a crown on the mini map). Solo'ing is possible of course, but it can be tough if you're still learning.

    4) Jump in and have fun. There's nothing to lose and you'll get some gold, gear and alliance points for taking part.

Keep Capture mechanics exist only in Cyrodiil, the alliance war map. Therefore, Keep capture is a PvP-only mechanic.
That said, all Keeps are defended by default by high level PvE guards, and can be captured without fighting other players.
Other players can show up at any time to help defend such a Keep though.
Can i play PvE and join the campaign at any time?? Is that pvp or pve??

I like the idea of big battles. Like 3 factions taking forts and such. Like Skyrim where u help one side take the forts. Im hoping i can join the campaign through PvE so i can enjoy the game.

The experience is kind of like Skyrim when no enemy players are present, but enemy players can show up at any time.
PvP combat is more interesting and compelling than the pitiful AI of PvE mobs here though, so enemy players showing up only serves to make the experience more enjoyable.

    Edit:
As a side-note: Cyrodiil also has several cities each with 10 repeatable (daily) PvE quests -- this allows players to play PvE in Cyrodiil while in a sort of open-world PvP setting.
My personal favourite experiences in the game have been when running PvE quests and defending myself against gankers from enemy alliances -- it is greatly satisfying to be caught off guard and then turn the tides and win out against another player before finishing a quest. The whole experience makes the gameplay feel more alive and similar to previous Elder Scrolls titles than the strict spawn locations of PvE mobs.
So PvP is where the true experience is?? Did they pay less focus on PvE?? Im only afraid that if i play PvP, i will be facing players with 10x the level i am and killed instantly. Im not even close to good at PvP.

PvP has actually received less attention from ZOS and is consistently full of bugs and lag -- they have spent far more focus on the PvE zones and largely ignored PvP players for the majority of the time the game has been out.

If you are worried about higher level players be sure to join Blackwater Blade the non-Veteran campaign.
For the most part, all characters will be scaled to have their stats equal (ie: a level 10 and a level 49 both with battle leveling active have almost the same stats) in Blackwater Blade -- it is a good opportunity to develop your skill without feeling like people are steamrolling you simply due to their level.

No one ever starts out good at PvP -- the only difference between a good PvPer and a bad one is that a good PvPer was able to let go of his or her ego long enough to learn from his or her deaths rather than getting upset about them. A bad PvPer will consciously make excuses not to improve and cry for nerfs to the enemy instead.
Just keep your focus on yourself and work on continually improving so that you are better than the day before -- don't get caught up in how other people are doing, so long as you know you are improving your own self that is all that really matters. :)

Yes there's an alliance war in PvE. The difference is that you cannot PvP in PvE. But you can PvE in PvP.
