Willingly creating lag in Cryo...to the point of crashing it. Why even?

So I don't PvP much. Not because I don't enjoy it, but because I find it much more enjoyable with a large group of friends and/or guildies, and only one Guild I'm in does regular weekly PvP. That being said, I never really paid much mind to threads that touched on the topic of Cyro lag and what have you. They were issues that really didn't affect me in any way.

Now maybe you noticed my use of past-tense there. That's because a few nights ago, I was running with one of my Guilds in EP. We were following a zerg at one point and we started to get hit with really bad lag. Apparently it's become common habit for certain factions to spam Meteor to intentionally cause lag. I don't understand how this helps them; if we're lagging, surely they are as well? Surely they're as incapable of defending the keep/resource as we are at trying to take it? Is it because they just want to try and make attackers get fed up and leave? I can't get my head around the logic here, if there is any.

Hell, it got so bad towards the end that Cyrodiil crashed. Not just me, mind you, but ALL of the Guildies who I was with. I can only assume Cyro itself died in a flaming ball of lag as whole. I just...it doesn't make sense that people would willingly do stuff like this. Frankly, it shouldn't be able to happen either. Maybe the cooldowns that were removed should be put back into place or something; it's kinda crappy when a single group of players can cripple an entire aspect of a game like this. Other than the cooldowns being re-imposed, I can't really think of anything that could help cut down on this, as it seems to be common judging by what my Guildies were saying as the night went on.

Basically when the server crashes do to lag and comes back up it sets everyone at the starting area is why. Basically it offers a way that whoever comes back the fastest can win and sometimes miss getting re-spawned at their factions starting area and they start off where they where at when the crash happens, is one reason why people sometimes force it sadly

It's a defensive tactic. It's up to you to take the keep away from them which you cannot do when your lagged out.

I don't PVP anymore because of these issues. It's not enjoyable to to sit and watch a light show because the jesus beam hitting you doesn't ever stop. That was with just a small group of people at a keep also. By the time the lag stopped I was dead.

It's sad that people with no skill have to use exploits to hold onto their keeps. It's also sad that ZOS can't resolve or choose to ignore the issue.

They should just remove all Ultimate capabilities in PVP areas IMO. Do you really need a meteor for g*ds sake when your sitting next to a trebuchet...... NO! YOU DON'T.....

Bolded for truth, that happens to me every time I'm inside a keep fighting @ the flags. Drop down to 1-3 FPS and my entire screen is lit up like a firework is going off inside it.

My lead @ work is getting ESO for PS4, once he manages to level up enough to do PvP I'm gonna ask him how it is. You know things are bad when the devs remove things like deer and bugs to try and help cut down on the lag, as well as trying to break up groups with the new siege and the buff you get for killing bosses in delves and such. Funny, considering massive battles with hundreds of people were what was promised back before release.

Exactly. ZOS needs to get a fix on this asap. It's been almost 3 months since @ZOS_PaulSage said they don't know how to fix it and asked people to do smaller groups which doesn't change a thing. If this isn't fixed when they bring in the Imperial City, just wait for a massive incoming of threads and tickets about how they can't open containers there because the lags so bad you can't interact with things.

Seriously tho, 9/10 times there's no one intentionally trying to cause lag. People are just dumb, they use the skills that makes the most lag without giving a crap about consequences, being bad performance.

Meteor makes your enemy die from 30-60k fall dmg when it's laggy. ZoS seems unable to fix it, or they dont care I dunno. It's also the hardest hitting max ranged nuke AoE in the game. Players will use it for those reasons alone, not to crash the server.

Organized 24-man raids often forbids the usage of Meteor in their groups, because it messes up performance so badly. Pretty common. But than you have all these zergs of randoms, unable to fight AoE blobs in mele range because no Barriers, heals and Purge bots. They melt if they get close. Understandably they resort to Meteor from max range, to stand a chance. The organized raid gets fed up with the bungy-jumping and the fall dmg, so they slot Meteor to and the server goes to *** even more.

Than we all blame our enemies for the lag and apparently it's all intentional blah blah. It's kind of ridiculous.

    This^^

I'm AD and I've experienced this defending against EP. I have no way of knowing who caused the lag. I'd rather not blame the players, though. I think this requires a resolution on the technical side of the equation. Players shouldn't have to worry about using an ability in the heat of combat because the server may not be able to take it.

It's EP. At least that's the case on NA Chillrend. No question. But who knows. That's just one players opinion. (obligatory disclaimer.)

the meteor spam is a symptom, not a cause.

when the lag gets bad enough, ults do not really register, meteor is a particularly bad one, and will fully animate constantly untill the first one successfully gets through the lag.

this also affects DK standard, and its pretty easy to get 10 standards to animate, tho only one will be effective.

this will happen on any three way fight, or any attempt to dethrone AP happy guilds who currently have a emp.

There are groups that lag seems to follow, I notice it when i am with certain AD guilds and when facing Certain EP guilds, but its almost always when the sever shows 2-3 Locks and when more than one full group is currently rendered and actively fighting.. In particular the groups that hyper zerg with tons of AOEs are the biggest issue. something that is heavily common on both EP and AD.

DC not so much... but that faction is severely lagging behind in the numbers and dont have the man power to create lag simply by being in the same place.
