Some tips to help you early in the game:
    • Before handing in a quest, slot skills on your active bar that you want to level-up. The skills on your active bar will receive the XP so make sure you dont have skills that are max level. Also level-up skills to the morph point, this will be very helpful later on in the game.
    • Try to get the achievements in the area's where when you're questing, you can find the achievements under J (default) > achievements. Some achievements also give armor dyes or character titles.
    • Invest some time and skill points into crafting and start researching traits asap.
    • Get a horse (or other mount) and feed it daily, Rapid Maneuver from Allaince War Assault is helpful to increase the riding speed and you can cast it while riding.
    • Do the group challenge in Public dungeons for a skill point.
    • Do group dungeons (4 man group), upon completion of the quest you also get a skill point.
    • Complete all world bosses and Dolmens you come across.
    • Go to Cyrodiil (press L and select non-vet campaign) once you reach level 15. You can reach Alliance War rank 4 fairly quickly which gives a couple skill points. Try to find a group so your chances on survival and Alliance Points (AP) increase.
    • Install Minion to manage and update all your add-ons.
    • Install Skyshard and Lore Book add-ons so you dont miss them, 3 skyhards give a skill point and lore books advance the Mages guild skill line.
    • Install Master Merchant add-on so you can see how much items are worth. Note, you need to be in a (trading) guild for this add-on to work.
    • Other useful add-ons: FTC (damage numbers), Srendarr (buffs/debuffs) and Wykkyd Outfitted (save gear/skill sets and load them).

Hope this helps, have fun during your adventures!

Hello and welcome to the game! Here's a few pointers that will help you out.

1- Crafting items. Get an Addon called ResearchBuddy2 and always make sure you are researching items when you get them. You always want to have a research going to maximize the items you can make. Research all items with a trait showing on it. You can put them in the bank and research later.

2- Pick up EVERYTHING. You can make really good gold in the game selling unrefined resources. Also join a Trade Guild so you can sell these items there. The more items you sell in the store, the less posting you will need to do in Zone for WTS(Want To Sell) things and can spend time questing. Master Merchant is an Addon that makes searching for items in the Guild Store a lot easier.

3- Upgrade your backpack/bank slots any chance you can get. The more items you can carry, the less time you have to spend going back to town.

4- Take a look at all of the Addons available at ESOUI.com. You won't need them all, but there are some really good ones out there to make things a little easier.

5- Enjoy all the detailed graphics that the game has!

Edit 2- Make sure you leave behind worms in all the plants you loot because everyone loves that soooooooooo much!

A few more small suggestions. Research every trait you can, at first it might not seem worth it, but when you get to Vet status and are trying to make that truly awesome set of armor and weapons you want, it comes in handy. Skill up your provisioning. Again, at first it seems kind of pointless, but it becomes practically a necessity at the end. It seems the people who rush through the content trying to get to endgame wind up unhappy, whereas if you take your time and enjoy the game for what it is, it seems you will be much happier at the Vet levels.

wow, lots of responses since last i checked! lmao

ty for the warm welcome all :)

think i'm sticking with my wood elf sorc for now. Still having a blast roaming around Auridon.

Almost to level 10 now on her and cleared my first pub dungeon (didn't find the achieve guy in there though... gotta go back sometime soon lmao). Loving how every main story questline "fills in" an area on the map. Reminds me of the GW2 hearts system but with an actual story reason behind each one. Awesome.

As per advice i've been researching everything i can, though i don't have much gear with anything really "good" on it. I figure having SOMETHING being researched (even if its crappy) is better than nothing lol. I'm doing this at the clothing station, smithing station and woodwork station as much as i can... am i missing any?

As for addons, ty again for mentioning EsoUI. That place got me updated and kitted out fairly well. I'm avoiding anything that points to skyshards and lorebooks right now, though, because i'm enjoying the search for them lol (is that a path up that hill? Is that a cave? is there a shard in it?! gogogo :) )

Good advice on the pvp at level 15 for some skill points. That sounds entertaining and at least worth a shot.

    Ty again all!

p.s. we have cheese and we have fish (and fish sticks!), now we just need some french fries and we can have fish n' chips for all! ;)

I like that you found a character you enjoy playing - that would be my greatest hope for anyone - it's not about "the perfect build" for me, it's about playing a character that's fun to play in a world that's fun to explore. And my (so far) favorite delve in Auridon is Toothmaul Gully.

PS fish n chips should be possible - we have potatoes in game!
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Welcome to ESO  This is probably one of the best games I've ever played, plus the zone chat's get kind of funny sometimes. Occasionally I'll be doing a quest and someone comes up with something completely random and I break down laughing. One piece of advice I would give would be until you have too much to carry in your bank is to hang on to every crafting resource you can get your hands on. Crafting gear depending on level of the item can get quite resource hungry. I've been through many chars never reaching level 25, due to the fact there's so much character content I keep switching chars halfway through the second zone lol. Anyways good luck and enjoy the great graphics and fun gameplay, maybe we'll meet each other on the road in Tamriel.
