Provisioning Recipes

Where do I get them? Are they rare? Before TU, you could get them from chests, etc., but now you would only be able to do it by stealing. If I don't want to steal, where can I find them? I haven't seen a single one.

They are everywhere, I got few from Mudcrabs :D But mostly from containers (not only those "illegal" ones) and writs.

Backpacks seem to be one of the most reliable sources, but they can drop from almost anywhere. Look in all containers. They will drop as loot sometimes too. For green recipes, try a guild store. The stores are loaded with them, and most greens are well under 100 g. Also guilds are a good source. Either from the guild bank or shared among guild members.

Well, they can also drop from almost anything - they drop from mobs at a very low rate, and from containers at a higher rate (with the rate being different depending on the type of container - I find crates have a very low drop rate, trunks have a decent drop rate, while backpacks have the best drop rate).

Having said that, the absolutely most reliable source for recipes is from provisioning writs. Every single provisioning writ you complete will give you a recipe. Now it may be one you already know, or it may not, but you're guaranteed to get a recipe appropriate to the level of the writ from each provisioning writ you turn in.

I would definitely recommend you start doing daily provisioning writs. The return on investment (what you get back from the writ compared to what you put into it) is by far the best on provisioning writs than on any other crafting writ. You'll get back much, much more ingredients than you put into it, make a little gold, have a steady source of recipes, and have a chance of getting purple ingredients (the only way to get them aside from hirelings).

If you don't already know enough green recipes of your provisioning level to be able to complete most writs, then pick up the writ anyway, and browse guild stores to try to find the recipes you need. Lots of guilds sell a ton of them, and usually cheaply. Heck, they're practically all I ever sell in my guild store (and I always sell them for just the default price it lists them at - so 27 gold for a green recipe), just because I want to make the recipes I already know easily available to others.

From my experience, most recipes drop from furniture containers (Cupboards, Wardrobes, Backpacks, Urns and Trunks) with the occasional drop from critters. The recipe drops from Baskets and Barrels tend to be as rare as those from critters.

To trigger the In Game Mails you generally need to change your locality ie to a different region or the Thieves Dens or a Delve.

#edit: Changed from "different locality" to "different region" Gorramit

Lately it seems to be backpacks in dungeons and delves.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

and for anyone on NA server who needs a few Four-eye grogs, game-mail me; I absolutely will trade 4 of them for the mats for one, because that was the bane of my life for so long.

I bought a recipe from a guild store. How do I pick it up?

Never mind. I just got an incoming mail notice. Sorry about the stupid question. I didn't even know that I could buy from a guild store unless I was a member of that guild.

That's why I mentioned In-game Mail triggering. A lot of people don't seem to realise that it is triggered by locality changing as well as some sort of timer mechanism.

One of the things I've noticed since they added the Justice System is that, now, most of the furniture outside of cities, about 90% of it, excluding backpacks, is open and empty. I think it's their "subtle" way of making people work through the justice system.

I found out that I don't need to change Zones anymore, or do the Log Off/Log On Two Step.

Just pop into the closest Thieves Refuge and its a new zone*, so you get your emails as soon as the cell loads.

*I think it has to be as that is the only way to stop the guards from following you.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Yeah, that's what I wrote in my first post on this thread That's why I say "change locality", the Thieves Den and Delves are different "localities" to the open Region but houses are not. Pretty much anything that triggers a loading screen is a different locality.
