Do i have to quest in other factions territory?

Hello,

i'm a new player and level an Imperial Templar in the DC. I really enjoy the game and plan on playing it for a long time to come. But one thign bothers me. I don't want to do the quests in the other factions for RP reasons and to have a fresh experience if i start character in another faction.

I don't care for the skyshards since i have enough skillpoints anyways. Can i level the Vteran Ranks without doing all three factions or do i really gimp my leveling by ignoring it?

You can also do cyrodiil PVE quests (wwhich are daily) and eventually craglorn. Besides that you will just have the same dungeons over and over again AAnd the XP from all those things is significantly slower. Like really slow. Not going to be fun.

What kodo said. It would be so slow I hate to think about how long it would take. There is PvP too i guess but it would still take some time.

you have acces to craglorn as the only region to lvl wich got nerfed into the ground xp wise, there are a few daily quests but that will not get you far.

the only thing i could recommend to you is tabbing through the cadwell silver quests to reach cadwell gold and than grind in the vet 5/10 areas to get to v14.

Veteran Ranks are painfully slow progress even if you do Cadewell's Silver and Gold. But the alternatives are few and the xps poor, so progress without Cadwell's would be glacial.

Whatever anyone's views about Veteran Ranks and if they should stay or go, Cadwell's Silver/Gold as a gameplay device feels very forced and contrived and wrecks any intended playthroughs of the other factions on alts. It seems nothing more than a development afterthought to keep players busy and mask the lack of genuine endgame PVE content.

I have a character at VR8 and about half way through Cadwell's Gold. What I have been doing is playing two other alts in the other two factions and keeping them ahead of my VR main's quest progress. So my alts do the quests first in their own faction. This doesn't solve the RP conflicts, but it does at least keep the content fresh for a first play through of each faction.
It also means that when I do play my VR main I usually have some enlightenment bonus.

I chose to pause my main at Vet Lvl 1 and create alts and enjoy the other faction areas the first time through with them.
Then I went back and rushed through (as best I could) the Caldwell version of the areas, clicking through the dialog & such.

Yes and no. You need to do Caldwell's silver main quests by the time you reach v8 so that you can continue grinding to v14. Outside of that questline, no you will not.

I agree that it's an issue @Ravyn. They have said multiple times that silver and gold aren't going anywhere. maybe once DLC starts coming out we'll have some more options.

This is why my main is a VR 4, despite playing for a year. I broke down and started on Cadwell (hack spit) when 1.6 hit PTS. A day has not gone by since where I do not regret this.

No, not really. At least not very well. At VR1, there is very little you can do in Craglorn without a group, and the zone has been nerfed to the ground in terms of XP, so you won't really level much at all from questing or grinding there. Cyrodiil is not much better in terms of XP gain if you do PvP. There are a few repeatable daily PvE quests there (all of which are easy and uninspired and get old very quickly), and there are quite a few nice delves, but you probably won't be left alone to do them in peace. Enemy faction players will be interrupting your PvE gameplay enough to cause a serious slowdown in an already slow leveling.

Doing Cadwell's Silver and Gold is really the only reasonably quick way to level beyond VR1. Many players are unhappy with that, but this is obviously how the game designers expect us to play.

Hm thank you for your replies. Really appreciate it.

Since i also enjoyed PvP in DAoC a ton i guess i will just PvP in Non-Veteran PvP and when i hit 50 i will become a little zergling in Veteran and see how that goes. I'm not too much in a hurry to reach V14.

At the same time i will start an alt in Aldmeri Dominion and play with her through the faction Quests at least. Since i don't care too much for the Ebonheart Pact anyways i might do the Cadwells Silver and Gold afterwards.

If i'm real lucky it isn't even necessary anymore until then =D.

You can always grind mobs if grinding doesn't bother you. Do it in vet zones though, not Crag and you'll get the best xp available, zombies are good. You can do 2 or 3 vet ranks a day grinding if you dedicate the time and find a good spot. But it's entirely personal if you don't mind the boring grind.

the problem is you cant lvl further than vet8-9 in cadwells silver by grinding as the mob xp is related to your lvl they do not give reliable xp at that point anymore (<100xp per mob is awefull)
so he has to run through the main area quest to proceed to caswell gold to be able to lvl within the vet 10 zones to get to v14 by grinding.

This is horribly inaccurate. I finished grinding to V14 on my main in V10 Rift and one of my alts is already V10 in V8 Shadowfen. The mob xp is fine - better than it is in Craglorn anyway.

if you plan on doing pvp its possible to skip leveling there and only doing pvp and daily silver + gold it would take you about a month of playing 3 hours per day to reach v14

thats what im saying cadwell silver areas enable you to lvl to v8-9 while you will need cadwell golds v10 area to proceed to v14 in a viable time frame. as craglorn is utter garbage now xp wise.

well it doesent matter if it is called v14 or lvl 64(probbably upgraded to lvl 65)

It really had out to have been an optional opportunity from the beginning: 1-50 as a linear intro to the world, and then 50+ where the game becomes more open-world and free to explore at your own pace.

I'm hoping this is what they intend to do by removing veteran ranks.
