Stealing from writ deliveries

Just died because I accidentally stole while turning in a writ, then while running around (mounted) to find a guard and pay the stupid bounty, I didn't dismount and the dialog was skipped, so the guard killed me.

Look, there's a simple way to make sure things like this don't happen: Don't put lootable theft items in among the writ turn-in boxes. Remove those sacks. Please.

There are so many places like this clearly ZOS are trying to force people to either spend a minute every click they do to endure they don't accidentally 'steal' or else endure the fatuous Justice system when trying to do something they're focused on.

But nothing will change, the 'fans' love this facile Justice system and scream down any dissent.

I like the justice system just fine. But there are writ turn-in sites, like Davon's Watch, where there are NO accidentally lootable containers next to the turn in containers. This looks like an oversight to me, not malice aforethought.

This. No addon required, I've never "accidently" stole a thing, or killed anyone for that matter. The settings to not participate are actually there.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

I like add-ons, but using add-ons as an excuse not to fix things or as a "We don't need to improve it, X exists!" is like saying "Eh, you've got an infection, but this band-aid at least prevents it from spreading!." Doesn't fix the infection, but... it's not WORSE, right?

This. No addon required, I've never "accidently" stole a thing, or killed anyone for that matter. The settings to not participate are actually there.
Of course that setting helps not the slightest in those cases when you accidentally hit E when you're targeting something like a weapon on a weapon rack, or a drink on a table... It only helps for items in containers. So to entirely prevent accidental stealing, yes you do need an add-on. Not that I actually use an add-on for that. I just keep the "no auto-loot stolen items" selected, and if I happen to accidentally steal something that's not in a container I chalk it up to me being too careless.

Exactly this...there was some pieces of gold just laying on top of the table in the Rawl bank, so I inadvertently picked it up.

I mean it's not a huge deal now anyway, but might suck if the PvP part of the justice system ever gets released and I got ganked instantly by a bounty hunter :|

I've rocked this setting since Day 1, but I have had it fail twice. I just pay some lame <100g fine, and I'm on my way, but it isn't fool proof.

Right. That's all I'm complaining about--it appears to be a bug, an "infection" if you will, and suggesting an addon fix is only useful if it's a feature that's not included. We shouldn't be writing addons to address genuine bugs. Back before Justice was implemented, most writ turn-ins did not have lootable sacks either. But now some do. I'm not going to go change anything in my settings to fix what appears to me to be a minor bug. I can't say for sure it's a bug, rather than a feature, because I'm not going to claim to know ZOS's intentions regarding this issue, as many folks have.

That said, a lot of folks are also missing the other bug I mentioned. I was mounted, looking for a guard to pay the bounty, and running past a guard mounted made the dialogue disappear without my doing anything to "escape justice," so to speak. I'm not so fussed about that, but it is an issue.

Agreed. And there are even a few examples of those "fans" white-knighting this major Justice System design flaw already posting in this thread. :)

See and personally I would consider myself a fan of the justice system. Overall I like it. There are 2 specific things about it that I think were implemented poorly, however, and that I really wish ZOS would do something about.

One of them has been brought up in this thread: the fact that having auto-loot turned off for stolen items only prevents you from accidentally stealing things that are in containers. You can still very easily accidentally steal something that's not in a container, like a drink, or a weapon, or a piece of armour.

The other is that if you're using heals in a town for whatever reason (for the purposes of this post, let's assume you're a brand spanking new level 3 player in Daggerfall fighting a Bloodthorn Assassin inside the inn while on the Blood and the Crescent Moon quest, and you're trying to heal yourself because you're new to combat in the game and actually in danger of getting killed - there are many other quests in towns where a similar situation could occur), and if you accidentally heal a criminal (keeping in mind that you can't specify which targets your heals actually go to), you get a bounty.

Now the first of those 2 flaws is something that has affected me personally a few times, but for myself personally I don't consider it a big deal. I can see why it could be a big deal for other people, though, and I think it should be corrected.

For the second of those flaws, it has never affected me personally (and it never will now because I pretty much never need to heal myself in solo PVE outside of world bosses), but it very well could have if the justice system had been in place at launch. I know it's affected some other people. My big problem with it is that the people who are most likely to be affected by it are brand new players (experienced players are highly unlikely to ever need to heal during one of the combats that takes place in a town). They're also the people least likely to be able to easily pay off their bounty. They're also the people most likely to quit playing the game based on a single unfair incident when the game system screws them over.

So I'm a fan of the justice system for sure, but I wouldn't "white-knight" its design flaws.
