Why I unsubbed my EsoPlus after sticking around since January 2014.

When ESO went Buy2Play I decided I would continue with my monthly payments for an EsoPlus Subscription.

I thought to myself that the offer was quite fair and that I would, over the span of months or years,
be able to buy all the Mounts and Pets from the Crown Store by spending my monthly Crown allowance. A deal I could live with...

The first thing that left a dent in my enthusiam was the limited Leopard Senche Mount.
Although I had the Senche Tiger, as a Collector I would have liked that Leopard, but as I had spent my allowance already on other things, I would have been forced to buy the Crowns with extra Euros just to get it in the limited time frame... Around 25€ for a mount... Nah not really.

After the mount became unavailable I swore that I would unsub my EsoPlus if ZoS pulled something like that again.
And they did... well not yet, but they are already advertising a limited senche panther.

All ZoS seems to care about these days is putting up crap into the Crown Store, there aren't any news on upcoming content patches or anything...
They are becoming much too greedy now just like Blizzard Activision with their ShopCrap.

If I can't get the Crown Store Items at my desired pace, I might as well not bother with it at all...

After all, when I want to play, I can enjoy all of the current content for free,
no need for EsoPlus if the advantage of getting a monthly crown allowance is ruined by limited time offers.

I just play for free now until enough content has been added to justify subbing EsoPlus for a month.

Just my 2 cents (I'm sure there are more (Ex)EsoPlus like me that feel this way and are disappointed with ZoS)

Its a cosmetic skin for a mount. Who cares you already have it just a different color. Plus these supposedly limited mounts guaranteed will be making multiple comebacks to the store. That being said I also cancelled my plus membership. I dont care about cosmetic skins for a mount. I care about content like quests, zones and things of that nature. Since they are making us wait Ill stop paying until something is released.

I have yet to spend one crown. Still have the 3200 from when it went f2p. I cancelled my sub the same day we got the senche mount.

They must have made some quick and easy money on that leopard Senche to try the same stunt again so soon. However, it seems both desperate and unimaginative to me.

I have to agree. The cat mount that was available For a week, no big deal. Being the start down a path to unsub, I guess everyone has to have a reason to start that path but to start an actual thread about it, priceless and a good mornings laugh.

yes my sub has been cancelled as of yesterday not because of issues with mount but because of issues with game itself eg lack of content, lag, broken mechanics the list could go on and on,

I tried my best to hold on and think things would change but they're more concerned with console release at the moment leaving the paying players in the dark.

It WOULD have been nice if the monthly additions to the Crown Store never exceeded 1500 crowns or if a subscription gives you 'free access' to the mounts and pets instead of crowns but nope. You want all the bobbles? Be prepared to pay like a boss.

well since they cant/wont release new content until after console launch it kinda makes sense that all they are doing is adding crown-store "crap"... the console release includes everything ingame now.. so they obviously wont add more free content if they charge for dlcs after launch..

This has to be at least the 4th or 5th such thread, and I may have missed a couple.

I don't connect the limited time senche mounts with a justification for ESO Plus either way. All of the cosmetic updates in the store are things that I consider outside of the whole realm of ESO Plus, much the same way that the plushies with the in-game pet and the horses available in the Bethesda store were outside of the original ESO subscription.

I love the idea that the senche mounts have, so far, been limited time offers. This is a wonderful idea that I whole heartedly support. The senche itself is not something that can just be picked up from the store any time someone wants one, so the recolors are more special than the various horse and guar recolors. I am hoping that they can keep going with this and not actually have a permanent senche mount in the store. They should come up with a few more limited time recolors (Golden, etc) and recycle the existing ones from time to time.

I don't understand why one would buy an ingame item anyway for more then 10 euro. In fact you just give them money for something that is already ingame (where you pay sub for) and which you don't own anyway. They own all the content you play with. they can remove it from you inventory, change stats, pull the plug on the game and leave you with nothing except an empty purse.

Paying a sub for a game i understand. They have to maintain servers, pay people to make content for the game etc. But paying money for a skin for an existing mount? That goes to far. That piece of skin from the leopard probably is 0.000001% of the game itself. The game is at launch maybe 60 euro if you buy it. But now 30 or 20 euro. That 0.000001% has the same price as the enitre game.

People must decide for themselves what they spent their money on. But i saw many angry faces when they shut down SWG and it's ingame cardgame where people have spent hundreds of dollars on cards to get ingame items.

I see more people on the Nightmare Charger than the leopard senche. My guess is they're releasing the black kitty mount just to see how many they'll sell. This one is black after all, so it will sell better.

ZoS is still messing around with the crown store and what will sell. I agree that it's unimaginative, but I don't think they will have reached the point of desperate until the game is F2P and the store is stocked with Chainkinis.

Blizzard and ZOS so far, are the least caring companies in regards of milking their customers. Go check out Valve, EA & co. then you will understand what it means to play games where you pay a lot of money and yet don't have access to anything.

I play Blizzard games since the 90s and you get a lot more for your money than with other games. If D3 would had been released on Steam, we would had to pay 20 bucks for every patch, with Blizz its free. Or the Addons at WOW, they are all free to play, except the new one. Same could be said about ESO, we can use all content for free, included in our sub and don't have to pay for every new addition.

Nobody knows yet if this will change and if a Sub will no longer cover this, but right now we have zero reason to complain.

I seriously couldn't care less about mounts, pets and all that stuff - I want to be able to play the game and this I can. Go check GW2, SWTOR etc. go look how it is to play their games with half the features of a P2W guy. This is greedy business!

Sounds to me you have problem with managing your crown spending, that's not the games fault, sure you can do what you want with them, I bought the spotted mount, that's is the only crowns I have spent, so I am back up to over 4k, I been holding on to mine until I see if DLC's are indeed included in my sub or will I have to spend my free crowns to purchase them.
But if you are still having fun with the game , then nice to have that option to play without a sub.

We do not need to buy everything they design and the idea is to encourage us to buy more hence spend more $$$$. When you dine in a restaurant and the server recommends a desert it is to enhance the meal and encourage spending more $$$ but we choose to or not to do so.

Oh, I don't feel the need to at all. I'm just saying it would have been nice if subscribers could still access everything released without being 'encouraged' to spend more than $15 a month. That's all I'm saying.

Buy to play with a cash shop is an excellent economic model for MMOs. It's sometimes astonishing to me how much players complain about something so fair and balanced (I am not talking about Faux News).

Putting in limited time cosmetic mounts in a cash shot to help fund development of the MMO is nothing surprising, unfair, or unbalanced. It's what they should be doing, and doing more of.

If the price is too high, don't buy it. To suggest that ZoS is milking their customers is frankly idiotic.

Thing I don't understand about threads like these is why the OP's think they should climb onto a soap-box , take an otherwise legitimate topic and make it all about them. I suppose, with the topic now being the OP's psyche, proper resonses would be "I feel for you", "thanks for letting us know" or, my choice, "why should I care". Not even sure that's allowed under the ToS. Hmm, does that mean I can report the OP for trolling? Did I just get trolled? Food for thought.
Please stop making requests for game features. ZOS have enough bad ideas as it is!

    I'm with you matey.

Due to the lack of input and decent communication from ZoS, their general crappy attitude to PC users atm, plus the complete lame weekly updates that accomplish nothing major at all, all the lag lag lag and balance issues in PvP, the PvE story content so watered down and easy that you don't want to level from 1 to V14 more than once (It used to be a challenge BTW)...... The list could go on and on.

ZoS always seem to get a limited edition mount or some other lame idea in the crown store rather than address the real issues with the game.... Less about the game and all about the money.

Having played Elder Scrolls since Arena and loved every incarnation of it ZoS are slowly killing it for me, so rather than hang on hoping something will happen I am putting it aside for a while as not to hate it so much I wont ever come back.

The game could (and should) have been truly great but atm its just average, too average for me to keep my sub going.
(the benefits of ESO Plus are also a joke BTW).

I cancelled my sub because I felt like all the content we were promised and - ahem- paid them to create was suddenly going to be DLC that you are forced to buy to always have access to. It feels wrong to me that that we subbed from day one and they say, "Yeah keep paying your sub to rent the content you already paid us to develop!" No thank you. If I have to pay for it a second time I'd rather just buy it and always have access to it, so Zenimax lost my $15 a month guaranteed sub because they prefer to charge us for new zones.

I seem to recall them defending the $15 sub before launch by saying, "The subscription model lets up make the game we set out to make and the game we ultimately think player will want to play. The sub means all content will be available to all players."

I somehow understand the frustration of the thread starter. I think you are allowed to deny someone your money on any occasion, with any excuse. Your money after all, right? However I think you are overreacting, because its a part of the console prelaunch strategy - after the launch Im pretty sure many DLC will be released. Its just at this moment its not in their interest to add more free content.

This is why I like the idea, actually. It is not common due to easy access. The player has to be there when it is available. I like the idea of stuff that is limited a little because it does reduce how much of it we see in the game. I don't want anyone to be prevented from having it, like with the striped senche, but it is not unreasonable to ask that they be around when it is available. Of course, I do mean limited time, not one time only, so if someone does miss it the first time, there will be another chance some time in the future.

Someone made a comment about the flaming horse *** mount that people are riding these days being more common than the polka dot senche. This is sad. That mount should have been limited time. There are way too many of them and it really should not be that way. The common horse and guar mounts should be in the store at all times, but the unusual stuff, like the senche and the fire horse thing, should not be.

I am confused by this. If you are an ESO Plus member, you get the DLC content. It is the same deal that was provided by the subscription model. You pay for time. With that time comes all content updates at no extra charge.

B2P makes it so that players have the option to buy DLC content separately. No one has to do it that way. People can subscribe to ESO Plus, just like they subscribed to ESO last year, and get the DLC content.

Yes, it is rented content, which should not be a strange concept. Anyone who paid for ESO time last year paid to rent content.

What other reason is there currently to keep an EsoPlus Sub other than the Crowns Allowance?
Surely not the Puny Bonus to Exp / CP / Craftingtime.

I never said I would stop playing the game, I still like it,

I just think that EsoPlus isn't worth anything when there is no content that it supposedly should grant free access to
and if they void the usability of your crown allowance by offering limited time Items that you can't pay with it.

Even if I had saved all my Crowns so far, I'm not sure I could have bought the Leopard and now the Panther with it.
Also I think it's terrible to not spend it in anticipation of these crappy offers.

For me there isn't much to look forward to now in the game since I have maxed out my trait researches on my main and quested all zones multiple times. Most of my friends have moved on and these days its rather lonely in Tamriel.

Well you know what OP don't let the door hit you on the way out. For every 100 or so people that claim the game sucks because they didn't strike while the iron's hot theres likely 10000 more that enjoy the game for what it offers, and contrary to popular believe bawling and squalling does NOT power a city. Go try any of the million or other MMOs out there and you'll find alot of them have similar policies.

You remind me alot like a old lady who proclaimed she'd stop shopping at my store because 'we weren't baking scones the right way'. Well guess what? She still *** shops at the store.

Or better yet you remind me of a friend of mine who I knew for 3 years since the tail end of WOW Cataclysm, and even though he insisted he was done with Blizzard he went crawling right back and gave wibbly-wobbly time traveling orcs glowing marks. What did he give ESO? A loat of *** because 'its too hard to level provisioning". I called him out on his steaming *** and he unfriended me after like I said 3 years of having known each other. And before that he claimed his life was so intolerable 'why bother going on'. Well I'm not going to lose any sleep over him in that case, and I doubt anyone around you will either.
