Console - No beta stress test, Cyrodiil nightmare incoming?

ZOS

With the short console beta we had, and no other betas planned...no stress test either, what type of stress tests have you done in-house to ensure consoles won't MELT from the massive amount of players in Cyrodiil?

1) What can you say to us 3 weeks before release that the console is ready to handle Cyrodiil?

2) Do you have a backup plan if the LAG is so bad that you can turn off Cyrodiil and let us continue to play the other PVE content?

3) Or is it all or nothing with this Megaserver architecture where if Cyrodiil crashes, the whole game goes down on console?

You must have some type of answer to this as you had to pass the game through Microsoft and Sony for console approval. You must have convinced them it will work. Care to share how?

They had a year long stress test on PC. There won't be near that many people on at once on console.

The last couple of mmo's I played, including this one had terrible testing, in house is ok, but no amount of simulated stress play will ever equal live players, and the lack of testing in that last couple of mmo's I have played it came back to bite them on the rear-end, don't know if console will be any different with the lack of testing, I guess the only saving grace might be the hardware in the consoles are pretty much the same. Guess we will find out June 9th.

I'm sure you understand, PC isn't console. So I'm reading your sarcasm.

On your second statement. You do realize that the Neverwinter MMO on Xbox One has 1.6 million people playing it. Even if half of those are active, it's more than the current PC ESO numbers...right?

ESO Console revolution incoming by June 6/15 because Cyrodil will be crashing due to the influx of new players getting in there. The forums are going to be blasted like crazy for this because ZOS cannot fix the PVP Lag. What steps are being done to ensure that this will not happen? None......

You do realize that ESO doesn't have the numbers on PC as NW, of course, neither of us don't know this for a fact. Also, ESO will be split between three systems, unlike NW. So, ESO won't have near the numbers on Xbox as it does on PC.

You misread that article on Neverwinter. There are 1.6 million accounts on Xbox. That doesn't mean everyone is actively playing.
I'm kind of a small deal!

Also, of those 1.6 million how many of those were playing on the PC before the Xbox release?

I would be very surprised if more than 10% were active. For a F2P game where all it takes is time to create an account and to only have 1.6 million accounts is actually quite unimpressive to me.

What does that even matter? There were 1.6 million people that created a NW account on console. You said there won't be as many people on ESO console as there are on PC console. I'd beg to differ as there are not a lot of MMOs on console, so people are chomping at the bit to get another MMO on console.

How's that? What do the consoles clients do differently than PC clients that would have them avoid lag issues?

No worries. They had a bunch of new servers installed by a white-eyed tech wearing a strange purple outfit. He assured them that the servers would be able to handle any new stress and would certainly never respond to stress by growing giant arms and legs and rampaging through downtown Rockville destroying cheese shops.

Time for a bit of honesty......

Am I the only one stocking up on popcorn waiting until June 9th to watch the train wreck unfold on the forums?

Need something to keep me amused......

Whilst waiting for new PC content! >:)

I hope that the lag that appeared on the PC was a result of them combating bots by moving a lot of what was being done by a users PC, over to the server.

IF that is what introduced the lag, then it's very possible the lag won't be present on the consoles as the consoles can do more locally due to bots not being a problem.

That's all hope from me, but it is a way in which things could be done differently on the consoles, presuming I'm right (which according to my wife, I never am)

    It's a double edged sword.....

On one hand I really want the Console release to be a total success, new content might then arrive a bit faster......

However on the other hand I want the console players to feel our pain!!

Oh shucks, I'll buy the popcorn just incase. :D

A console server stress test weekend would not provide them more information than they already have. The server behavior under stress will not be much different than the one for PC. The PC server has been a year long paid beta to prepare for consoles.

The PC servers are not ready for Cyrodiil after a year. The stress test weekends may have improved the situation before launch but not by much.

Mainly a PVE type of girl BUT this is the first MMO I have really played any PVP in and I have to say I really, really enjoyed it and had very few issues.

Probably due to playing in low pop campaigns......

Got sick of dying and trying to get back to the fight, only to find the fight had moved on, must admit since Forward Camps left the building, it is just too time consuming for a beginner.

    Back on topic though.....

Regardless of how many players each console gets, they only have one megaserver each worldwide right?

So I see at release some major issues could arise,

I remember just after PC launch with only the NA server active, on a Friday night/weekend evening, even PVE was a nightmare but then that might be due to being UK based.

Many and various strange game behaviours, some funny, some exceedingly annoying, often I'd be playing and wonder WTF was going on, only to have my son point out it was the weekend and consequently peek hours.

Hmm im pretty sure when it comes to consoles there was a promise for more localized servers, but so it was on pc.

They had a year long stress test on PC. There won't be near that many people on at once on console.

You have to admit there is probably a lot of truth in this while not complete. The game is about to split in three; one group will be PCs, another group with be Xbox One, and the last group will be PS4s. And while the consoles will get some new players it may not be enough to matter right now.

From a pure console point of view we can safely assume the first week of PvP will most likely be bad, simply because it will be the first week, so that is moot. The first week of any PvP game is taxing.
    Console has a few things in their favor;
    1) split community:being split between x box and PS will relieve server stress to a degree that PC would not.
    2) locked 30fps: since no player will be able to achieve higher frame rate, there is a certain amount of information that can go through Cyrodil, no exceptions.
    3) hardware: same reasoning as above, plus the added benefit of no guesswork for multiple types of hardware.

In theory, ZoS should have an easier time making PvP work on consoles.

Not even close to half of those are playing. It was a free download, a lot of people started accounts, few are still playing. I get your point, but I would have gotten it without the statistic you made up.

You got that wrong because you made an assumption without basis, and you're getting this wrong for the same reason. Spend ten minutes on Google and you'll have your answers.
