Should poisons be usable?

Why can't poisons be used on anyone besides yourself?

You are supposed to be able to apply poison on your blade or arrow, and also to place it into victim's pocket.

Just a guess, but I believe this will be coming with the update that brings dark brotherhood/thieves guild in the game, and has been planned from the beginning.

Otherwise Emetic Russula makes no sense :)

Afterwards, see if sneaky stabbies/uppercutties are too strong.

    You could be right^^
And there're more than just Emetic Russula which doesn't make any sense atm.

I'm will to invest a healthy wager that it's coming with the the implementation of, hopefully both, the Dark Brotherhood and/or the Morag Tong.

It seems the Justice System has been a testing ground to support the potential aftermath. Poison apples and berries placed in targets pockets or replacing the food on the tables of NPC might work as it did in Oblivion. Poisonous concoctions have flooded the lore and have been part of the base mechanics of the series. I see no reason why it should be any different now.

I'd like them to be usable but I can't think of any viable way to do it.

Weapons already have enchants, so I'd assume weapon poison would just be a temporary buff applied pre-combat that only lasts for a few strikes. You'd have to make it pretty powerful to be worth using, bringing in balance issues.

As for putting them in pockets, yeah that could work, but would it really be worth using up a potion just to kill some random NPC and get 50g in return? There would have to be targets that are actually desirable to sneak up on and poison.

The worthy targets would be governed by the contracts through the assassin's guild.

My guess is poisons will share the potion cooldown, and will buff you attacks for a duration, so you need to make a choice between offensive or defensive.

As a Nightblade, that has been patiently waiting either Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood, YES they should be usable. I would even skill up alchemy on my NB to use this.

As long as the differences in poisons are meaningful in gameplay, yes. Poisons for rogues in WoW added another dimension to playing that class. When WoW started to dumb down the game and reduce the number of poisons and the necessity of actually picking and choosing to buy certain types of poisons for your rogue, it removed some of the fun from the class.

Yes, by on a different cooldown from potions. they'd also need to redesign the UI to give us a skill slot to put poisons in.
