I thought ZOS dealt rather effectively with bots after launch, a lot of developers could have learnt from them.

I did not know there was a bot problem in TESO... If there is, I somehow have not seen a bot for a long long long time.

To be fair, sometimes Blizzards is too heavy-handed when it comes to this.

I still remember how they deleted my Diablo 2 account for simply possessing hacked items.

Sometimes, it's better that ten guilty people go free, than one innocent person be locked up.

Blizzard and ZoS have different ideas on cheating. The idea in the article is that botting is anything automated by a third party software. This would include bank management, inventory management, price tracking, buff tracking, macros etc; which is why ZoS has a different stance.
Botting the way we know it here needed a different approach (the character deletion limit being the most recent).
I do applaud ZoS in cleverly reducing the profit from botting to circumvent the need to ban so many accounts.

I get the feeling you didn't post this about botting though.

There was for a while after Early Access, but they been eliminated for a good while now.

Uhh, NO, thanks. People have been running that bot for probably 6 months, now. If ZoS handled bots the way WoW did we would still have bot problems. ZoS has done a WONDERFUL job taking out the trash and I salute them for it.

Aye I second that, botting was a problem for a while after launch then they got wiped out and I have not seen a single botter or even heard of one since, and that is a very long time.

are you talking about? Just because you say someone is cheating doesn't mean they are. What are they doing? Why do you suspect them of cheating?

They implemented a bot fix with 1.2 last July, while it may have stopped the bots, the lag it created has ruined the game for me.

Would not say defending Zos, or unaware of the issues in Cyrodii. I am very quick to congratulate or criticize them dependent on what they do, but to say there is constant cheating and exploiting is a big OTT and there is a number of people who knowingly exploit or hack but it is not constant.

Remember there is a thing called latency that we are all stricken with, regardless of how good your rig or net is, and a lot of people jump on the oh I died u must hackkkk whinewagon, seen it plenty of times on other genres and it really makes me laugh.

Certainly there is cheaters but to say it is CONSTANT is a massive sensationalism of the actual problem.

Well ZOS didn't take several years to ban bots, just the first 2 months after launch.

Now the exploiters in Cyrodiil, both of those might be a little harder to catch, and I'm sure wow still hasn't dealt with their macro-augmented, see everything on map, game exploiters either. Though if you notice there seems to be less reports on certain names these days...

Cheating is a vague blanket term, we just need to understand what specifically you are considering as Cheating and exploits to get this thread constructive.

Using a bug to enter Towers in Cyrodiil without breaking the door feels like cheating for me.

You couldn't craft if you weren't a bot. They would run under the ground and take everything that was around. You would see the ore/flower/rune take two steps it would be gone. Really hard to see them and get a name to report them. Then some smart addon author made one that would capture the name so you could report it. In the long run and I do mean LONG ZoS got the upper hand on them.

I couldn't believe how easy it got with crafting once the bots went bye bye. Yep we went thru a tough time back then and still surprised how many of us stayed with the game after that and other issues with bugs. Which is why a few of us still think we aren't appreciated for what we went thru and still supported ZoS!

But that is water under the bridge now.

The only two things that were mentioned in that post where DK's dragon leaping up the wall to an enemy NPC. The other was NB using teleport strike to teleport to the top of a wall to attack an enemy NPC.

Are those the cheats and exploits you are talking about?

Those are considered exploits if used to gain entry to a keep without busting down the door/wall, yes.

Yes. Unfortunately, as a result all of Blizzard was then accidentally banned for botting. In 6 months time they'll be able to appeal their ban to themselves. It remains unclear if they will reject their appeal or not.

I somehow turned invincible in Cyrodiil the other day - not an UI bug, actually invincible. I relogged after I noticed and it was fixed. I have the nagging suspicion some other players don't and enjoy this bug to the fullest.
