Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

If Zenimax gave you a option to have a house in ESO, would you agree on that idea?

It would depend for me how it was implemented. For example housing in LOTRO stinks. Housing in EQII is pretty awesome.

hell no its one of the best in MMOs. go check heromofo's thread. i post some videos. instanced neighbourhood would be perfect. not instanced houses or non-instanced anything.

like housing in SWG. holy *** that was a mess.

    never played EQ2 tho...

I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

I suggested it quite awhile prior on the forums here
, :) : http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/158619/housing-another-thing-daoc-got-right-and-why-it-should-be-adapted-to-eso-eventually The exact system was used in Dark Age of Camelot, which introduced housing in a free expansion called "Foundations" a couple of years after its release in 2001.

So yes, I would support housing being added wholeheartedly, but absolutely not as personal instances tucked away inside of a doorway. Not only is it a bad idea on paper, but it's been an extremely common complaint about Garrisons in World of Wombats ;), as well as other games that tried doorways to your own personal instanced "house" room. The lack of nameplates and guildtags already make it harder to feel like you're near other players very much in towns or recognize them. Tuck everyone away into their own individual instance that they go to for 99% of their normal banking, town, vendoring, and crafting needs, and you'd make it look and feel like no one else is around, even though that's not the case.

Housing, when introduced, would both work best, and add to the community aspect of ESO, by being in the open world; the most feasible way to do this would be simply adding new parts to the various existing zones like an extended docks area on the coast of Daggerfall City or a new stretch of forest in Grahtwood above Elden Root on a third level of the Great Tree, and other areas along those lines. That way, you aren't impacting existing areas for gameplay, but you also aren't tucking everyone away out of sight and out of mind of everyone else. Capacity issues could be handled very simply in this fashion as well, by having multiple copies of these new areas (each holding hundreds of houses), with your "home" being assigned where you build your house but being able to travel to the other ones through a portal. A basic tax/rent system dropbox (costing gold) that you could store up to a few weeks' worth of payments in would help keep abandoned houses from lingering forever.

Between these mechanics, you have no land crunch where housing land is unavailable, but also avoid the lack of community by having everyone walk into their own doorway, never to be seen again except in raid groups for Trials.

DAOC allowed you to get a chance at "remains" from bosses and other rare or powerful monsters that could be turned into trophies to display inside your house :D. It also had an incredible number of decorations, and you could hang a copy of any weapon or armor in the game that you owned on your walls to boot. :D I still think the Phoenix's Feather was one of the coolest pieces of art I have ever seen in a videogame to this day.

EDIT: Here's what it looked like, and it rotated slowly on its axis with a glowing, light flame aura continuously =) :

    Yet another biased poll.

If I gave you a cookie, would you be happy with it ?
Now if I give you a holiday in the sun instead of a cookie, which one would you choose ?

I guess 99,99% of players would like to see housing and would use it.
However, if given the choice between housing and another type of new stuff (especially new zones, new dungeons or new pvp aspects), I'm sure 95% of players would vote for that instead of housing.

it says housing stop trying to say other things it was a yes or no question to housing not i want something else now and housing later

don't get mad at my spelling, autocorrect doesn't cover fantasy.
Why couldn't the Khajiit go to the party? She had to be Elsweyr.

the only way housing works if there is instanced spaces to put the houses. either option 1) everyone goes to a door to access their house and possibly other people's houses or option 2) set up housing in a town or village.

option 1 can allow for room inside the house to be the eye candy you want to decorate and show off to all your friends. I've played games like EQ2 that did this. You had all sorts of knickknacks that could be crafted and positioned around the house.

option 2 the outside of the house and surroundings are what you are showing off/decorating for others to see. LOTRO was good about taking this approach since you can get a sense of community in the little virtual villages. Not sure what kind of options they had for landscaping and town beautification.

    LOTRO got those too :dizzy:

    draigoch1.jpg

well, u can only have it on a guild-house lawn though ;)

PS: LOTRO also has a LOT of trophies that are interact-able... my personal favourite is Helchgam's tentacles. small one inside the house twitches if u Use it. the one outside will SNATCH you right up, leave u hanging by your feet, before throwing you back to the ground.

    now THAT's a housing trophy.

The housing in lotro is horrible tho. You have hooks no free form placement. The neighborhoods are deserted the only reason for having a house is storage. Turbine gave us housing a long time ago and for years they have done nothing with it. EQII housing is also instanced but far superior.

Do you really think ( specially with the console launch ) something like this is going to be added within 5 years?

I do i believe after the console dlc and fixes will fly out the door over the next 12 months and once we are caught up i expect to see player housing first on the list.

To give them credit they said that housing would come after the game had been out for a couple years.
