So they aren't removing them, or they aren't removing them at launch?

I, personally, do not want to see veteran ranks removed unless they replace it with something of equal vertical progression. Right now gaining a VR level feels important and helps progress your character. I like it. Sure it takes a long time, but so what? If they replace it with a system that's more fun I can get behind that, but if they just remove it all together without adding something else, then that's just not cool.

That's always the issue, gaming companies have to deal with.
On the one side they do have the hardcores who want to rush to max level and then leave after their triumph of beating the game, hardcores that usually spread the word a lot about the game, be it positive or negative.
At the other side they do have the casuals who want to just waste their spare time by exploring the story, looking behind every bush or inside every cave. People for whom the game better never ends, as they just use it to relax from RL, people who probably wont tell their friends about ESO or host a YT channel.
By removing the VR´s, the hardcore get their wish and triumph of beating the game, but at the same time the Casual loses out on content, as there is nothing new in the works right now, nothing that can replace the VRs. Even if ZOS adds a new zone, its just 1/10th of the content that they lose by removing the VRs.
As I belong to the second group, I would like to see the VR´s stay, but be improved. One improvement would be changing Craglorn to a real AV with monster scaling to support adventuring there. If someone enters a trial with just a friend then so be it, just like someone entering it in a public or delve environment. A new zone will then add additional VR´s, so that the story can always continue. I feel that the big concerns about VRs are mostly due the restricted gameplay at Craglorn. If you don't have a raid guild, that zone is pretty much unplayable for you, which is a real pity as I am sure that the Devs have put a lot of work into it.
