What all mounts are same spec now??

Koorta
Koorta
Hi All,

I just found out from my guild mates that all mounts are exactly the same speed, capacity and stamina now, just different skins. Can this be true? The 10k horse is the same as the 42k one??

Thanks dudes and dudettes.

Yep. It's true. ZOS thanks you for your gold. If you are feeling nostalgic you can still purchase the 47k mounts even though they offer nothing different outside of the skin.

Wow, just realized this - ZOS should fix this as soon as they can.

Selling 50K mounts when there's no difference is just plain wrong, so it's probably just an oversight.

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom, @ZOS_GinaBruno, although most of us know about the mounts, returning and new players likely do not. Please sticky something on the forums, fix etc...

Best part is, a new toon runs just as fast on foot as on a mount.

All mount skins are purely cosmetic. Different cosmetic items have different prices - this is true of Crown Store cosmetics, why would it be less true of mounts bought in-game? It's not an oversight: it's a gold sink. Games like this need gold sinks. If someone really wants a mount for the utility, they have a cheap 10K mount that they can buy. If someone wants a pure black horse because they really like the way it looks, then they have a 42K gold sink.

Nope, a mount is 15% faster (and can sprint indefinitely), before you start pumping gold into increasing speed.

    Welcome to "balance".
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Must... resist... mentioning... beating... dead... horses...
    Oh, failed! ;)

But yeah, horses are merely appereance now, and character riding skill is where the effects come from. And indeed, the more expensive horses are no different in effect as any other horse, be it the cheap common horse, the imperial horse or any of the crown store mounts... its all the same in effect, you just pay extra for the priviledge of riding a pitch black steed or whatever.

But think 180 days later you will have a maxed out riding skill and all mounts will be fast and have max space... (I feel your pain I just started an alt and that 0-0-0 start is hard to get used to when you have other chars maxed out)

Sweet. I'm buying the 10k one. I have about 25k saved up so far, I was saving it for the 47k horsey. And I don't see the point of having these expensive horses any more, I mean we will all buy the 10k one and invest in training it over however many days, weeks or months. By the time we save up for the expensive horse the one we have will be stronger and faster by a wide margin. Who's gonna go through training another steed just for the sake of appearance. Odd decision on their part. It would make sense if they were up to 5k in price difference, then I'd save up for a better looking one.

If you fully max out your riding skills on your character while saving up to buy the more expensive/different colour mount......

When you use that mount on the same character it will already be maxed out.....

The Riding Skills are per character i.e you only have to train them once on that character......

Other characters/alts also have to train all 180 slots :)

Actually from what I've seen when people ask in-game new players seem to find it less confusing than long-time players. Presumably because they've never known anything different.

As much as it seems odd I kind of like the variety of options we've got. You can buy the basic brown horse for 10k, or a more interesting colour for 47k, or buy the Imperial Edition and get one for 1g, or use crowns and get one for 900c, or get a guar or flaming horse (or a leopard when they bring it back) for more. Between all those options everyone should be able to find at least 1 mount that seems reasonable to them.

As for me I've got the Imperial horse and the White Mane horse from the crown store, I'm saving up to buy the black one as soon as I stop feeling like I desperately need more storage space and I may get a guar at some point too. Maybe even a leopard if it's not over-priced or otherwise too inconvenient to get. I like having a variety of mounts to suit my characters (or what I feel like putting them on).

I previously created a discussion on this topic because the way the new mount system is designed didn't make sense to me either.

I think it was a big mistake in making the mount attributes character based. The mount attributes should remain with the mount. Each mount should have retained its own class or breed attributes; for example a pack horse should have a higher carrying capacity than a racing horse which would have a higher top end speed. Other mounts would have a mixture of maxiable attributes.

You pay for the type or performance you want. The mount would still be assigned to only one character, but the skins in the crown store would remain account based.

wow, 180 slots at a pace of 1 per day, that's 6 flipping months!! I play this game every day, as much as I can. I'll be well done with all the quests in 6 months time. I know they designed the game to keep you coming back for more when there was a monthly subscription but there's no need for that now. I mean I'll buy any and every DLC but I'm not logging into the game just to do a riding lesson if there's no new quests or regions to explore.

And pls someone explain to me, what does Stamina upgrade do?? I thought the main thing is you can keep galloping for longer cos I thought it's like sprinting on foot - you use up a bar of it and then slow down. But I noticed with my horse you can just hold down shift and gallop as much as you want. It's quite slow, disappointing, but does a speed upgrade affect the speed while galloping?

Thanks men and mer of Tamriel. And Khajit. And the reptile folk and orcs.

Stamina keeps you from being dismounted when attacked by mobs. The lower the bar gets the easier you can be knocked off your mount.

Was told the guar mount has 25% base speed. Can't confirm, dont own one.
So if you want to be faster than the rest use the Guar mount.

    Thanks for the answer NH.

I've seen the guar mount in the crown store but oddly enough never seen anyone riding one in the game. Maybe I'm not the only one who finds it would be the most ridiculous thing you can do in this game if you mounted a guar and rode around. Well maybe the only thing more ridiculous would be to ride a guar in the jester suit.

You were lied to. The Guar, like every other mount, has +15% base speed. I've got a couple of guars, a senche, and some horses. My characters with maxed-out riding skill are the same speed on all of them.

Yes, they changed the mechanic of mounts and riding.
I like the new system now. It's based on your riding skill and not the individual mount.
The SKILL is not account wide (the skill is based on the individual toon's skill), but the MOUNTS are account wide.

God did they have to make riding skill character based rather than account based. I mean you do nothing, like nothing at all for it. Go to stable, pick a skill, pay 250 and get 1% increase. Boring and it takes 6 months to get all you want. They really ought to redo the whole system, there's no subscription anymore no need to tie us into the game this way.

i miss the good ole days, when you bought a mount you were garenteed at least 10% speed right off the bat

Ah yes, the gold 'ol days, when the game was broken, main story quests didn't work, and 80% of the community could not stay connected for more than 20 minutes. The majority of people couldn't even play Cyrodil.

It's obvious they have brought in some fresh blood to not only fix the terrible bugs that plagues the fist 4 months of the release. It is inevitable they would need to fix some of the game dynamics.

Since then, then ZOS has made some AMAZING strides to improve the quality, functionality an overall enjoyability of the game. Catering to random player's desire for the good 'ol days I truly hope is the last thing on ZOS'.

I truly don't mean this to be any way condescending or rude, but if you're at all familiar with the good 'ol days, you should know what I mean. The injustice of this is far less the the injustice of a completely broken game.

Let me ignore the thread necromancy and say that you are either very wrong or very fanboy about the rest of your post.

Yes, many quest and other bugs have been fixed, but I have no idea where you got the "80% of the community could not stay connected for more than 20 minutes" thing. I've played since beta and early access and despite numerous crashes, I never was consistently kicked offline every 20 minutes. Ever. Nor did I see this happen to my friend who also plays, or to our guildies.

In addition, Cyrodiil performance is now much worse than at the beginning, although it's marginally better than the shameful performance after the July 2014 patch that sent most players into single-digit-fps land in Cyrodiil. And this is after they tried such inventive "fixes" as removing torchbugs and deer from the entire zone.

In the mean time, they haven't been able to address critical 0-day issues such as the LFG tool or the leader bug (where you invite someone to a party and nobody gets a crown, forcing you to disband and regroup), or various issues specific to or more prevalent in Cyrodiil (siege weapon bugs, keep door bugs, in combat bugs, long loading times porting between keeps...).

I still see reasons to play the game, and that's why I'm still here. But I cannot honestly praise ZOS for its bug-squashing ability, even if the individual developers are doing their best. The results simply aren't there.
