I have been taking peaks every now and then and normally this place booming with posts..
But recently it seems like it total opposite.
Why is it so quiet? Is everyone too busy playing?

That's because the moderators shut down every discussion once they show the slightest hint of negativity toward zenimax or their game. I save about two bookmarks on this forum every day and going back to review them over half are locked or outright deleted within a few days.

The last great offense was the locking of our discussions about linking items and text chat in ESO's console version.
End the tedious inventory management game.

Just low popularity in game itself, too many old players left and new players just don't need forum yet since they have some fun in game, that' all.

Really: The console beta caused a spike in people posting, as well as maybe a month before it. There has been very little consle talk lately, causinga decline. Once the console versions come out, I'm sure the forums will spike again.

Anytime something is actually announced the forums speak. I'm between those times it's just us regulars it seems.
The crafting threads are sparse now, players helping players still sees some activity; I think most just moved to GD since that seems to be where the most traffic is.
Also, the quip about ZoS shutting down threads that have negative content towards the company isn't exactly all true...
It's not exactly all false either.
Most of the threads to get locked are the ones with "hot button" issues, where they do tend to fall into a mob mentality of disrespect.
I did not read the Item Linking in Chat on Console thread, so I cannot comment on why it was locked.

It's fairly active, population in game seems down and sales are down but that may be megaservers not distributing right?

I've been on these forums since early beta. They are as active as they have ever been. Activity spikes after major announcements, and drops when there is no recent news. Don't you worry. As soon as consoles launch and console players realize this is the place to come and gripe, this forum will be buzzing again.

Activity also spikes during maintenance times.

I try not to spend too much time here unless there's maintenance, but sometimes I'll pop in just for the Oblivion of it.

With only the three stickies, the same exact questions and such get asked everyday, so that may be why it seems dead. It's stale. Nothing new to discuss except bugs, lag, crown store or consoles.

Each of my own threads that involved critique about what ZOS did / does, are still alive. So no, they do not shut down negative feedback, but flames and childish discussions.

Forums in general lost a bit of their appeal since Reddit, FB and Twitter came alive. While I disagree with that development, its nothing we can stop.

I don't think so to be honest. A console gamer might not even know that the internet exists * >:) sarcasm!*

Besides that, console gamers have their own forum, which we PC gamers can not enter.

That was only beta. I'm pretty sure everyone can at least see the console forums after it comes out. Not sure on actually posting in them without purchasing it though.

Do you mean their own section of these forums, or their own forum with all of these same categories?

If it's just a sub section on these forums, then they will still come here for general discussion.

We don't know yet for sure, he's just speculating off beta, which had it's own hidden General Discussion forum and nothing else.

He's talking about the game sites. Xbox at least has had a game forum specific to this game for a year and I assume the same for Sony. Ppl tend to post within their networks

Because ZOS has been working on console, they have not been releasing new stuff for PC/Mac. This, by itself, is calming for the forum.

Once they start releasing updates, the forum will flame up in a way best described as a mixture of napalm and liquid oxygen. There will be multiple identical topics where people complain. ZOS will nerf the wrong things, buff things that don't need buffing, remove things that should have stayed, added things that should not have been added, bugs galore, and nothing ZOS does will be liked by anyone. The game will be dying, dead, buried, and the ground salted. Everyone will be leaving the game, not that anyone is playing, or has ever played.

For every person who thinks these things, there will be someone who disagrees. Only then, will the forums feel like home again. The best PVP in the game is here in the forum.

Before the model switched to B2P this was true. The forum is now open to anyone with an account now.

IMO, part of the reason the forums aren't doing so well is that many original players came back when the game went B2P, with hopes that old bugs, glitches, or shortfalls had been fixed - only to find that they hadn't.

So what's the point in continuing to post?

For example, I'd argued during beta that all quests should be groupable (i.e. no forced-solo quests), but my arguments fell, and continue to fall, on deaf ears. So why continue to post, since I know my in-game tickets and posts bear absolutely no fruit?

That's a salient point . Some topics don't seem to ever get much play, or even a mention, let alone an actual reply to the feedback. Yours is a good example of a topic in that category . Here's mine: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/160517/user-interface-and-quality-of-life-problems-eso-2-0-is-good-lets-make-it-better . This has been a hot topic since launch :(.

Partly true, but not quite. Many popular topics are hot topics, and the great majority of them devolve into personal slander or an otherwise heated environment. Despite warnings from zos (sometimes on multiple occasions), the discussion usually ends up violating the code of conduct because certain posters refuse to listen.

But I digress. OP, part of the reason why the forum population seems stagnant as of late is because of the lack of interesting new developments. We have had no real news of new content for about a year, and by this point the forums are mostly visited by the usuals and people who are unhappy with the game. I expect once interesting news of any sort comes out--be it console related or a content update--that people will come back on the forums to see how things are going.

For me it's more the fact I'm not really playing any more. I swing past the forums to see what players are talking about and what's changed. But there's not much that gets me wanting to play and there's very little to get excited about for this games future.

I think there is less to talk about, because in large part they haven't released anything actually new in a long time. Justice system is cool, but really we only have the hint of an odor of the taste of the justice system, and not the full fledged thing yet. The reality is, folks are just discussing whatever balance or theme issues float their boat, and waiting until this console release finally comes out so the game can continue and develop again (imperial city, wrothgarian mountains, black marsh, clockwork city, etc).
