$17,000 plus disappeared from my inventory while offline last night?

So, when I logged off last night, I had more than $17,000 gold. When I logged on this morning, I had no gold. None.

What happened? Can people pickpocket regular players when not in Cyrodil? I'd sure like to know where all my gold went and if there is anything I can do about it.

Thanks for any help.

    Open a ticket.

Other players can't pick pocket you or steal from you in game. You may have been hacked.

That's very odd. Players cannot pickpocket other players whether they are in Cyrodiil or not. It's not possible in the game.

I would submit a ticket to Customer Support.

Dumb question.... do you have one of the thieving addons that auto-deposits gold into your bank whenever you visit it?

A lot of these mods have this option so if you are caught, at least the guards don't take away your gold to pay your bounty. Just a thought :)

    Probably not directly.

However I have had instances where I thought I had logged out, only to come back to a corpse because the game never actually removed me from the server. Depending on how close to a town you were, or a settlement/fortification that had guards, a patrolling guard could have spotted you and came to arrest you. Since you did not respond, they killed you and took your gold.

So, it's possible, unlikely, but possible.

Thanks for the reply. But wouldn't my bounty disappear if the guards had caught and killed me? I'm still thinking something went wrong with my account, and the money was lost somehow. But I don't want to file a claim unless it's confirmed it wasn't my fault and I just don't realize it. I still have a bounty in excess of 20,000.

Well, with the justice system if a guard catches and kills you they subtract the gold from your inventory from the bounty. So you may have leftover bounty if you only had 17k gold with a 50k bounty. It might have degraded down over time a bit, but if some justice system bug happened with the guards, that's likely how it happened.

well if you logged out and lets say a guard took your 17k.. then 50-17- the amount that goes down over time (i think its 8k a day)= around 20k bounty... my guess would be u logged out and a few sec after your char was still there and a guard got you... the big question is where did you log out?

I didn't notice my bounty going down by 17,000, and I've been checking it daily....but I did notice that I may have been close enough to a guard that he may have found me hiding.....I don't think so, but maybe. Also, I didn't get killed. If I had, wouldn't my bounty be erased all together? I'm going to double check to see if I still have any stolen good in my backpack too. There should be some there if I didn't have a run in with a guard while I was offline.

At any rate, I'm going to chalk this up to lesson learned, and make sure I am really in the middle of nowhere if I'm waiting for my bounty to expire. But then again, I'm never going to murder over 100 citizens in 10 minutes again either.

That sounds a potentially dangerous feature. Does it just macro-mail gold to yourself or just literally auto-deposit when you visit the bank?

I don't use it myself, but I have a few friends who are big into stealing who swear by it.

Basically, whenever you visit a banker, it auto-deposits all the gold you have in your inventory into your bank funds (that way you have no gold if a guard catches you, since they can't take money from your bank).

I feel it has limited use, but to each their own!

Before I go submitting a ticket for assistance, I should also add that at the time my carried gold disappeared, I had a massive bounty on my character. My bounty was in excess of 50,000 when my carried gold disappeared. I was not in a town and was hiding out waiting for my bounty to expire when my carried gold all disappeared.

...and before you ask, I got my bounty by killing over 100 citizens in about 10 minutes just to complete the mass murderer achievement and see what happened.

I should have included this information in my original post. Sorry about that if it is pertinent information. Maybe my question should have been can guards collect your bounty while you aren't even online? If they can't, then maybe something nefarious did happen. If they can, then it's a lesson learned and I know to keep my money in the bank and not carry so much on my character from here on out. I never had to speak to a guard and no guards killed me as a result of my bounty. There was no contact with any authorities prior to my gold disappearing.

Oh, too, this loss of gold only happened to my character that had the massive bounty on him. My other toons seem unaffected and I'm pretty sure my bank is just as I left it.....but I'm going to double check that.

Sometimes my character randomly "rolls back" hours, losing xp, skill and level progression and even gold but no quest/story progression or items. It only seems to affect leveling and gold. Maybe that happened to you too.

If you are carrying 17k gold and have a 37k bounty on your head, and you get killed from a guard, they will take the 17k from your corpse and put it towards your bounty.

So when you revive at the wayshrine, your bounty on your head will now be 20k and you would of lost 17k and now be carry zero gold.

Any gold in the bank is safe tho.

This game should make it so when someone kills you, they loot EVERYTHING from you.

Runescape did it, and highly successful game.

I mean this game... Pretty much everything worth it is tradeskill made, no biggy if you lose all your armor, just get someone to make you a whole new set.
