Black screen after pressing play..

heres my thoughts as of right now i spent 64 dollars on a game that is uttery useless to me i cant even play the game just goes to black screen i have been gaming for over 20 years never had a game that would never work spent over 12 hours downloading and im pretty upset needless to say i have tried everything i can think of and my system far exceeds all recomended specs for this game so my review is worst game ive ever seen

perhaps instead of wailing like a banshee, you should constructively ask for assistance?

who knows, you might get a solution for your issue. that'd be swell wouldn't it!

well i have done my research trying find ways to fix it even run as adminstrator even sent out a ticket of course i imagne it be a week or so until i hear anything back i just needed to vent so dont know maybe should just delete game and ask for a refund since game does work

Have you tried running ESO directly from .exe, without using launcher?

I heared a true story like yours. Someone installed a car game, Need for Speed or something like that. The game changed some settings, and after launcher's play button black screen.

The solution was this:
Close launcher. Erase this directory: liveeu or liveus
My liveeu dir here: C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\liveeu

After you erased the directory, run the launcher again. I hope it is help you, and you can enjoy the game as we do.

Sorry to hear that. You will probably have to wait for customer support, as this forum mostly gets attention from mods, and not those that can actually help.
Or some other player with similar experience might pop in and help you.

Maybe start by listing your system setup first amd foremost so we can ascertain if theres any known compatibility issues

cool thanks for the help i tried that but same thing happened im about to just give up took me 12 hours to dl we only get 450gb of data per month so proably wont do another reinstall but thank yall for trying help

Winxp pro 64bit
amd phonem 2 x6 2.7ghz
Nvidia GeForce gtx 650 2gb I think lol
8gb ram
1tb wd harddrive

I don't know where is your black screen, but I suggest you start the .exe file with "Admin Rights".

Right click on the exe icon and start with admin rights.

What type of wd disk are you using? The greens are terribly slow. I run off of wdc black and have a black screen for some seconds after I launch and before the logos come up.
How long do you usually wait before you ... alt+F4? Kill the process?

Last time I waited about 20 minutes. Can't remember on hdd I built it about 2 years ago.
but every time I waited it was awhile my hdd has always seemed fast, I have ran skyrim on it and when used to play wow I normally never had any problem running 5 or more clients at one time

Despite the bugs and crashes, ESO is top notch gameplay wise.

Lol well to be honest this my 2nd time trying eso first time was when it came out couldn't get it to work either they refunded my money I thought they would have these basic problems fixed by now so took a chance again. Probably shouldn't gave it a try again

PC Minimum System Requirements:

Operating System: Windows 7 32-bit#

Your OS does not meet the minimu system requirements, probably you get the black screen because of DirectX incompatibility with Win XP 64

yeah my guess would be winxp being the issue... and since the game runs on my shity laptop and on my superior desktop (since launch) I doubt the issue is on their end

and I don't think you having issues with ur system makes the game better or worse..

Win XP! Yeah, that's probably a problem.

One workaround you should try is going OpenGL

Open UserSettings.txt in your documents\Elder Scrolls Online\<live\liveeu>\UserSettings.txt

look for the following line

SET GraphicsDriver.7

change whatever there is to
SET GraphicsDriver.7 "OPENGL"

If that doesn't work, try "D3D9" (DirectX 9, should be XP compatible)

As far as I know WinXP doesn't support DirectX 11.

Check your "UserSettings.txt" if it contains the line:
SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D11"

If yes, change it to
SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D9"

But TESO only supports DX9 and DX11

Try the OPENGL :-P It's as close to DX11 as it gets. D3D9 has its trade-off, esp. in this game. And OpenGL is GPU dependent, not OS dependent. And yes, your GPU should handle it.
