Memory leak?

Been running the game today and I notice that after shutdown and relaunching the game the memory usage is around 1.7 GB of memory. Playing after a couple of hours I noticed the memory being around 2.7 Gb to 3.1 GB of memory.

Definitely seems like a memory leak. Anyone else seeing this?

Yeah, even ZoS themselves admitted that it's a ongoing issue and have posted a few suggestions in FAQ how to avoid (more like minimize) the problem.

Would be nice if they could just fix this once and for all.... keeps coming back from an original beta issue

Bumping this up to keep people aware of the memory leak....

Restart your game in time allotments to keep from grabbing to much memory

To be clear, is that System RAM you are referring to or VRAM?

On my system I have never seen the System RAM usage for ESO exceed 2GB. Usually it hovers between 1.3GB - 1.9GB.
However, I have seen my VRAM usage climb as high as 3.6GB after a long time playing, and usually its around 1.7GB. Perhaps you have your motherboard set to share or dedicate some of your System RAM for VRAM? That case would make sense that your System RAM climbed up when you loaded more textures. How much native VRAM do you have?

System RAM. We are not talking about the paging file in windows

Watch the perfmon.... like you I have been in the IT industry for twenty years. I know what a memory leak is.....

Here is the link on it

    https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20528/kw/memory leak

I watched it grow from 1.2 GB's of memory to 3.1 GB to 3.5 GB in a couple of hours

System has 16GB of memory running Win 7 x64

The game starts to lag severely and eventually started to time out on responding.

Once I restarted the game it was fine.

Oops, sorry, my bad. I'm not talking about swap space, VM (virtual memory).
VRAM = Video RAM, the amount of dedicated RAM in your video card. Some modern BIOS allows you to reserve some of your System RAM as VRAM, which can be helpful for games that load a lot of textures, that would normally be a problem for video cards with a low amount of VRAM...like 512k-1GB.

So my question for you is if your video card has enough VRAM, maybe 2GB+, and your BIOS has the VRAM reservation option on, then maybe you could disable that option in your BIOS to see if it helps your problem. Its just an idea, but at this point since ESO doesn't even know what's causing the memory leak, you never know what might help.

PS: check out my latest post, maybe there's some help there too:

I know I am at my wits end with the crashing. It would be nice if we can stumble onto some of the culprits

I have been having occasional terminal game freeze problems since 1.6, made even worse (more frequent) since Monday with 2.0.7. Ingame lag, latency and fps are all much worse than they used to be as well. Basically the "fix" for Win8 clients has not done my system (Win7 x64, 4GB, ATI) any favours.
Interestingly, while my game used to use around 1.8-1.9GB of system memory, it now tends to go up a LOT higher, typically as much as 2.7GB. Monitoring this today occasionally (just using task manager), the memory usage does drop to lower values over time (2.3-2.5GB), so what I am seeing is not a true memory leak. That said, SOMETHING is going on that is causing problems.
Oh well, I have dialed various settings all the way back down again as per one of the other posts; I'm curious if it will make any difference. Trying to change only one thing at a time is hard, when there are so many different suggested solutions, all of which hint at "we don't have a clue why it's broken"...

I have 32GB of ram and 4GB of video ram. The game still freezes and crashes on me.

Im in a similar boat as you.

Nice, a support post admitting there's a memory link, telling us to lower our video settings, and a shrug. Nice. When the hell is this gonna be fixed?
I've been playing this game for way too long, but I just can't stop.
