Cosmetic Item Slots

Hello. I am here to propose a probably much wanted feature, cosmetic gear slots. What I mean by this is that you have a seperate set of slots that only benefit you visually. This has been done is many other games and it would be especially nice in eso as there are so many different armour pieces, such as craftables and unique dropped.

It could look something like this, where you could switch between your actual items and your cosmetic ones.

While I like the general concept of changing the appearance of your gear, cosmetic item slots seem like kind of a hacky solution for me.

I'd prefer to see the crafting system revamped so that you can put the looks of one item onto another, while keeping the second item's stats and bonuses.

Unless they completely revamp the costume system, I don't see this ever happening.

There a lot of different approaches on this but I think the players all want to wear and individualize the armor/costumes which are already ingame. The not dyeable costumes in one slot aren't sufficient.
The problem is not that there no ideas how to do it, there a tons of them and some of them are really good.
The problem is that the system they came up with once ago was just narrow minded and half finished and they for whatever reason want to stick with it

Another example? Visual Item preview... They have it in crownstore, but for no other costumes/armor... Its just... narrow minded

Agreed, and RuneScape has a good example for how this can work.
Cosmetic overrides are handled in their own menu. They can be purchased via the cash shop or you can purchase the "Dragon Keepsake Key" with real currency or the loyalty points (members/ subscribers).
The key, when used on another item, allows you to turn that item into a cosmetic item.
Keepsake items can be reverted back into a non-cosmetic item, but you lose the key.

Cosmetic overrides do not display in PvP.
This allows other players to see your "real" gear, preventing any exploitation.

Presented undaunted part(s) are not for only cosmetic use, they are used for different bonuses which replacing head/shoulder part for some X benefits.

I'd rather have this feature act as equipment swap to where we can quickchange gear. I'd totally have one set be 'causal' clothes.

I disagree because it often means losing the item you used for the appearance. At least with the option presented in OP you still have both of your items in case you want to re-use the look. A wardrobe "gw2" style is better for example imo

Call me an immersion freak, but I honestly prefer losing the item to have its looks carry over to another item than having 2 layers of clothes, one of which supersedes the other

I wouldn't throw a fit if "your" system were implemented but while we're just discussing I'll keep pushing for "mine".

By the way, I really like the idea of a 2nd set of gear slots being used for armour swapping without the need for add-ons. ESO is really unfriendly for multiple-role builds.

I have vastly preferred the deco gear systems in games that have one set of gear that is for combat, another that is being displayed regardless of what you are using for actual stats.

I think one of these systems was in Rift. It was oh-so-simple. The second, deco set had checkmarks by each piece so you could show them as you wished or leave a particular one unchecked so your combat shoulderpads or belt showed up instead.

It didn't require transforming this-to-that which I have come to loathe as being an utterly cumbersome means of doing what can be accomplished neatly and easily. No gold required, no gear lost. Two sets of gear, one for work, one for appearance, one hidden unless you uncheck the corresponding piece in the deco set (or have nothing equipped in that correlating slot.)

Some games have made deco gear into the most hair-pulling, agonizing, expensive, sentimentality destroying exercise that I end up not enjoying the process to the point I'd rather walk around in hideously mismatched items than fuss with appearance. However it's one of my most beloved features In games that make it simple, relatively affordable or free of gold cost or real ka-ching. I'll happily purchase items from a cash shop to help a game, but if I can't dye clothing to fit my character better, it's useless to me and unfortunately left in the shop.

I look forward to a superb deco system for ESO. With dye, even some low-level gear is just stunning! And the dye system is wonderfully done, thank you.
