Quest level question

beighjustin_ESO
Hello everyone. I played NW on the X1 and didnt really like it. It seemed too grindy. Requiring you to be a specific level to get a quest.

Im asking if that is the same in here or is it smooth?? Like regardless of what level you are, you can pick a quest up. Or do you have to be a specific level?? Do you have to level up 3 more times to get the next quest??

How does it work in this game?? Im thinking of picking it up on X1 but want to make sure before i put any money in it.

So pleast let me know how it works.

    Specific level.

If you had trouble doing level requirements in nevetwinter, you must have been doing something SERIOUSLY wrongg. all you have to do in that game is the main quest, you can ignore all side quests and still get to max level in 2 weeks Or so

If you had trouble with neverwinter, you might want to stop playing rpgss

Its not just that. I did all the side quest, all the main quest. I was level 21 when that happened. It basically forced me to play dungeon and skirmish repeately. Im pretty decent at rpg, look at my Dragon Age Inquisition. I got all 100% ach in that game. Played Mass Effect and such.

That's false. You can pick up any quest at any level.

Some of the quests will scale to your level, so that they'll be the same level as you, and others won't. Ideally you want to be doing quests that are no more than 5 levels above your level, and no more than 5 levels below your level, as any mobs you fight during that quest are usually (but not always) the same level as the quest. As long as the quests you're doing are within that range, you should be fine.

What about side quest?? Are they locked to level or do those scale?? I always do all side quest before proceeding to the next main quest. I cleared one entire map in Dragom Age and once it was clean, i did the next main quest.

The side quests are all (currently) set to a specific level. If you're used to doing all of the side quests in an area before going on to the next main quest, you'll do just fine in ESO.

Just do the starter zones first (you'll be either level 3 or 4 by the time you're done the tutorial intro, and the starter zones are scaled to level 4), and by the time you start doing quests in the first full zone you'll be a minimum of level 6 (more likely level 8-9 if you do all the side quests in the starter zones), and the quests you'll be getting are going to be level 5-8. As long as you're not getting quests 5+ levels above you, you'll be fine.

For myself, I've got a lot of alts, and I do all of the side quests and delves (the small solo-able dungeons, many of which have side quest starters in them), but I never grind. The first full zone of a faction has quests of levels 5-15. I've never completed the first full zone any lower than level 18, so it's easy to keep at or above the level of the side quests you'll be doing.

What I thought me meant was he was asking if all quests wold scale or not, of which they generally let do not,

Well, there's a tool for it, and from the reports I've heard of the console beta it was working pretty well... It doesn't work very well on PC though. Whether that's because people don't use it or because it's broken is a matter of much debate.

Oh, and if you do decide to get ESO, I really can't recommend enough that you do the starter islands immediately after you complete the tutorial/intro.

You'll start off in the first big city of your faction, but there should be a quest giver just outside of where you wake up. Talk to that quest giver and follow that quest (it'll start off with finding someone to take you away on a boat) before doing any other quests. By going off and doing the starter islands first you'll find some very well designed quests, interesting NPCs (some of whom will show up again later), you'll learn some common ESO quest mechanics, you'll gain a few levels and skill points, you'll get some equipment to use, and by the time you're done with the starter zones you'll be well prepared to start questing in your alliance's first full zone.

Alliance zome is like Elve zone or what??

Each alliance has 5 major zones. When you come out of Coldharbour at the beginning, you are left in the first of those 5 major zones. Each alliance also has a starter island (Daggerfall Covenant actually has 2 starter islands that together are about the size of the starter islands for the other 2 alliances). When you first "wake up" in the first major zone for your alliance, there will be someone nearby that can take you to the starter island by ship. DO THAT FIRST. The first major zone for each faction are listed below.

    Aldmeri Dominion: Auridon
    Daggerfall Covenant: Glenumbra
    Ebonheart Pact: Stonefalls

The starter island(s) for each faction are listed below (complete THIS location before the one above for your alliance):
    Aldmeri Dominion: Khenarthi's Roost
Daggerfall Covenant: Betnikh and Stros M'Kai
    Ebonheart Pact: Bleakrock Isle

Edit: the Ebonheart Pact's starter "island" continues in a small mainland area called Bal Foyen, so it essentially has 2 starter locations (you still complete Bleakrock Isle first, then move on to Bal Foyen, then Stonefalls).

Alliance zome is like Elve zone or what??

There are three (3) major Alliances in ESO for which you will have to choose one upon character creation. You can either choose Daggerfall Covenant (DC), Aldmeri Dominion (AD), or Ebonheart Pact (EP). Each Alliance has five (5) major zones which are somewhat level dependant (though you can explore each zone as much as you want).

The main significance of choosing your Alliance is if you want to eventually PvP ... and then you will fight with other players in said Alliance.

Alliance is a personal choice which varies widely in the ESO community ... and one for you to make. All of my characters (toons) are DC which is just a personal decision based on Elder Scrolls lore. If you're interested in starting out in the Elves' zones, then AD might be a good starting point.

Also, there is a bit of level "tie-in" on the main quest (not the alliance story line, but the overall main quest). Every 5th level will trigger the next stage of the quest. You don't have to complete it then, but you can't complete it before then. This is the quest line involving the Prophet that you met in the tutorial in Coldharbour.

I think most things were covered already, but here's a run-down:
    Quests
    • Normal Quests (or Zone Quests) have a defined level, which is the level of the enemies you will fight and the level of the reward you get at the end, but you are able to take these quests at any level. So you can try a Level 40 normal quest at Level 20 if you are so inclined, or indeed hold off a Level 5 quest until Level 25. Note however that you will not get any XP for defeating enemies 5 levels or more below you, but you will still get XP rewarded by quests at 5 or more levels below you.
    • Main Quests unlock every 5 levels, but scale after that to your level (so the main quest chapter unlocked at Level 10 will scale to Level 14 if you are Level 14 when you start doing it).
    • Guild Quests (Fighters Guild, Mages Guild) unlock when you rank up in those guilds, and have a minimum level, but then also scale to your level above that (for example, the Guild Rank 3 quests have a minimum level of 25 (I think), so if you try them at Level 18, the enemies will be Level 25, but if you try it at Level 40, the enemies will also be Level 40).
    • Dungeon Quests also have a minimum level, and scale above that to the level of the group leader.
    • Crafting Quests will scale to your level and your crafting rank.
    • Cyrodiil Quests are a bit odd, and I will come to those in the PvP section below.

    Zones
    • Alliance Zones are the zones through which you progress while levelling, where the quests take you through the story of your chosen alliance. Each alliance has 5 tiered zones, and one or two starting islands. While content within them is geared towards a specific level range, you can visit any of your Alliance Zones whenever you like.
      • Starter Islands contain Level 4-6 content
      • Tier 1 contains Level 4-15 content
      • Tier 2 contains Level 16-23 content
      • Tier 3 contains Level 24-31 content
      • Tier 4 contains Level 31-37 content
      • Tier 5 contains Level 37-43 content
    • Neutral Zones are the zones where all players complete the same content at the same level range regardless of their alliance, but note that players from different alliances are still in separate instances from each other, so you can't actually work together on Neutral Zone content with other alliance members.
      • Coldharbour contains Level 44-50 content, and becomes available when you have finished the storyline of your alliance in the Tier 5 zone.
      • Adventure Zones contain Veteran (Level 50+) content, and become available once you hit the "first" level cap at 50. There is currently one Adventure Zone: Craglorn, which contains content geared towards players of Veteran Rank 11+.
    • Cyrodiil is the PvP Zone, which becomes available at Level 10. See below.

    PvP
PvP takes place in Cyrodiil, where all content is geared towards players of Veteran Rank 12. Upon entering Cyrodiil, non-Veteran players (those that are below Level 50) have their stats "battle-levelled" to the equivalent of a Veteran Rank 12 player, in order to remain competitive. This is designed to make fights between players fairer, but players with more PvP experience are still likely to kill you quite often. I personally am not a very good PvP player, so I stay near the back of a battle manning a siege weapon, rather than running into the skirmish, and as a result, do not die quite so often.
Quests in Cyrodiil have rewards scaled to your level, but the level of the enemies depends on the type of quest. There are "PvE Quests" which pit you against enemy NPCs, and "PvP Quests" which pit you against enemy players. In PvE quests the enemies are all Veteran Rank 12, which corresponds to the "battle-level" scaling. In PvP quests the enemies are players, so there is no defined level that the enemies could be.

For more information on most of these things, I would recommend UESP: The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages, particularly our pages on Quests, Leveling and Alliance War. For everything else about ESO, start here.
