Kicked from game due to talking too much

Oddest thing ever, I'm a talkable person, and guess what? I was talking in zone chat and chatting with people....

All sudden I get kicked to login server.
Something about talking to much, I exceeded the text rate.. Have to talk less???

Never seen any error like that ever... Basically telling me... Your too socialable, you need to calm down and be anti social.

It is an anti spam measure for the gold sellers. if you wait around 10 seconds between posts you will be fine.

No I mean, it literally kicked me from the game, sent me to the login screen and literally said something along the lines I met the text rate therefore I got kicked.

I didn't get muted by the game, I got kicked by the game.

yes, its hilarious.

its an MMO for sithis sake. its a social game. If people dont like how much someone talks in chat they need to put that person on ignore.

The "you were kicked for spamming" message usually appears if your game freezes for a short time and you don't stop pressing buttons on your keyboard during that time. It is not related to the chat, it also appears if you are in fight and realize to late that your game is frozen.

you can't have it both ways. either there are anti-spam measures to combat the gold sellers, or there is not.

and it only applies to zone chat. stop spamming the zone. while YOU may feel it is appropriate, just as many people feel it is not.

@qsnoopyjr ignore what others have said, you most likely have been hit by a message talking about "spamming messages".

This has NOTHING TO DO WITH CHAT, it's a fatuously wrongly-worded message which can happen when the game client 'spams' control messages to the server. This has been seen regularly since released and ZOS have many times accepted it's not caused by players 'spamming' text chat.

Some add-ons can cause this but I've had it and never use add-ons.

For example I once got blasted into the walls of a dungeon by a knockback and my client tried vainly to place me in the game world and I got kicked back to the login screen with a message about "spamming": this happened repeatedly until I was lucky enough to be able to trigger /stuck before being kicked.

Only time I've gotten this is when I used Wykydd's Outfitter to swap skills and gear too many times consecutively.

Don't worry OP, I've gotten this kick message while being completely silent. Usually my resources stop draining and I can't swap weapon bars just before the kick. I believe when the game catches up, it processes all my actions simultaneously and the server says "spammer!"

It's a bug.

As @fromtesonlineb16_ESO indicated, it pops up when your client and the server "are having marital problems". Your client keeps yelling at the server, but the server isn't listening... and suddenly the server slaps your client down to shut it up.

It may be your network connection or it may be ZOS' network setup. I suspect the latter since lots of people encounter this bug... people like me who almost NEVER use chat.

Of course, ZOS will never acknowledge that it's their fault...

"Error 318: Message Rate Limited Exceeded" is very rarely related to text chat. Often it is related to back-end messages being sent to the server. There are three usual root causes for this:

A vast majority of the time, these "messages" are sent by add ons. If you're running add ons, please give a shot to disabling them and let us know if the error persists. We know it seems like add ons are blamed frequently for issues, but for error 318 it is almost always the case, especially if you're running a lot of them.

The next most common cause is if your character gets stuck in the world of falls through it.

The least common cause is connection related, though this is generally pretty noticeable. If you disconnect from the game briefly but everything tries to catch up at once, you can sometimes get this error message if you continued to play normally while you were disconnected.

We hope that helps explain the issue a bit!

This is what does it for me too. Particularly when combined with Wykydds Marcos to switch skill builds on keybind. If you are in combat and try to switch your saved skill builds more than a few times - it will loop the switches repetitively once out of combat, and boot from server for 'spamming'.

At one time or another, I've had this error from all 3 causes mentioned by Gary. There was a guild store search add-on (I don't remember which one - it was probably as long ago as August that I had this happen) that I used to use which caused this error to come up almost every other time I was using it's functionality. Naturally, I stopped using that add-on.

One time I've gotten stuck halfway into the ground, and shortly thereafter got this error (unlike some people, I've only had the getting stuck in the ground and/or falling through the ground thing happen to me that one time).

Two or three times I've been in the middle of combat, using my abilities with no apparent effect, only to suddenly see my enemies appear in an entirely different place from where I thought they were, and then immediately get this error. Obviously those times were the third case that Gary mentions above.

I didn't get muted by the game, I got kicked by the game.

You can also get kicked for this error if you loot too many containers too fast. It's really easy to trigger in the tower in the tutorial.

Also, people get it randomly in Cyrodil all the time.

weird. one time i was chatting - FAST - and i do send a message faster than once a second (it's an RP thing), and was enjoying my time....

...until i got kicked to the login screen. saying something like "too many chats too fast".

and i was only running FTC.

it is a social game, I will talk how much I want. you are fully capable of muting me.

this is the same problem with mics on consoles.... JUST MUTE PEOPLE. it takes 5 seconds to do so.

If I get suspended for talking in chat, I will laugh about it and go right back to it. its a social game, I will talk as much as I want to. deal with it.

If you are sending a message more than once per second, that is not RPing, that is spamming as it takes time to read the other players response and then type your own reply that is relevant to the scene.

Given this message regularly and frequently totally misleads players such as the OP here, how about someome in ZOS changing the text of the message so it doesn't mention THE LEAST LIKELY CAUSE of your being kicked!

Only a 'techie' would read the word message in the error text as anything to do with client/server TCP messages, everyone else would read it to mean 'chat' messages!

This is ca classic example of why you don't let programmers generate error texts for end-users to read!
