My hireling stopped sending tempering alloys :/

Hum, I used to get a tempering alloy (i.e., the golden blacksmithing temper) once every couple of weeks from my hireling, but now I can't remember the last time I got one in the mail, it must have been at least a couple of months (I have spent all 3 points in the miner hireling).
I understand that those tempers are supposed to be rare, but I think the frequency has been decreased a tad too much!

Coincidentally or not, my hireling stopped sending those tempers when the messages stopped being updated (when you keep getting the same old message about how happy she is). I wonder if the two things are correlated or not. Alternatively, it could have something to do with some change that came around with patch 1.6 or a bit earlier than that?

I got both a tempering alloy and a kuta on the same day from hirelings about a week ago. But yes it is extremely rare now.

Honestly I think skill points in hirelings are a waste now, better things to put them in.

Gold Temper hireling rates have decreased dramatically; best methods are purchase or refining.

Crafting writs are another good source of tempering alloys now hireling have been nerfed. I seem to get one every second blacksmith writ, plus the chance of a survey that can lead to nirncrux when fulfilling the top tier writs.

Yes, writs have an exceptionally high chance of giving you gold improvement mats. I don't think it's as high as 50%, but it's quite high. The only downside is that you're limited to 1 per day and per character. Also, I don't know if writ rewards are tied to your crafting level, so I don't know if you'd have to level an alt to 50 to have better chance of getting gold mats from writs. But since they take quite some time to complete and use up quite a few mats, I only do them once a day on my main character.

How did you get it? Do you do writs every day? Do you farm raw materials and refine often? Or do you simply wait for your hirelings to send you gold mats?

Hirelings were nerfed hard, and this was announced very clearly. I actually agree with the nerf. You can still get the gold mats from refining and doing writs, but that actually involves playing the game
