Why are the devs so silent in regards to upcoming content lately?

Why are the devs silent about new content. That's a huge loaded question.

To start with, there has been new content. We just got all the skills, and most of the rest of the systems completely renovated only a few months ago. We got a beta for a console release, which is only a few months away. And we still get the small patches and fixes along the way. All that is new content, it's just not the new content you're looking for.
    .

Actually none of that is new comtent. I suppose you could make the arguement that the console release is new content for a console player if you wanted. But fixing systems and bug fixes is most certainly not new content.

Check out my post further up should help explain it.
The console version is far more important to them from a business point of view than pc.
So its really important that the console version goes off with a bang and not a pop.
So from that point of view they had a good reason to move most staff towards it months ago.
Dlc is important and bug fixes are important to both sides but the focus on consoles is just.
People can say that eso is dying but its far from over.
I always looked at my time on eso pc as a year long beta test and the console version is the reward.

Content includes all content, not just new land.

Justice is new content, armor coloring is new content, Craglorn is new content, guild trading through kiosks is new content. The attempt to define new content as only new areas falls flat with me.

Anyway, they announce that something exists and show video or screen shots. That is where it sits until they are ready to move on it. After months have passed, and they are in the final stages, they start talking. This is why they are not talking. They already have the video, set to music, and we have seen a lot about new areas. They are not yet ready to move on them, so they have nothing more to say.

I have been wrong on timelines before, but I bet that as we get closer to, or at, console launch, they will have more to say. When they have something to say, you won't miss it. They will talk about it in news announcements and ESO Live.

The answer for your question is a simple one and the Devs them selves have answered it a multitude of times. They are not talking about new content because their current focus is the release of Tamriel Unlimited to Consoles, which maybe unimportant to us PC players, but is definitely important for ZoS.

Once consoles are out, than we will hear more about new content. So far we know what they've been working on, 2 new adventure zones, imperial city, thief's guild... Those all future contents we were allowed to glimpse. We just dont have specifics or release dates because ZoS is not prepared to communicate those.

If the Devs mention something they are working on, it becomes gospel that is carved into stone and shall not be changed upon penalty of QQ Rage and ye shall be accused of dishonesty and lieing. I don't blame them for not telling us much about future plans until they are imminent.

Bethesda is holding a MAJOR press conference that same week as the console release. The focus will be on Fallout 4 (which they're rumored to be announcing) but I expect to hear a lot more about the ESO console release and new content then too.

From 617 days ago an interview with Mat Firor, http://www.pcgamesn.com/elderscrolls/matt-firor-justifies-elder-scrolls-subscriptions-we-re-not-worried-about-getting-people-door

"With the likes of Guild Wars 2 churning out update after update in quick succession, ZeniMax has its work cut out for it, but Firor hints towards a similar cadence of post-launch updates. "Our target is a month to six weeks," he told us."

A month to six weeks we were told was the time frame to expect new content. This is the reason that I unsubscribed in August a few months after the game was released.

The devs can't/won't say anything because of how we were led to believe new content was to be released.

I like the no subscription model. If no content is released, that is DLCs, I can leave the game and return next September? or whenever it is that the DLCs are coming.

So basically, subscriptions fueled the development of the console release for the past 9+ months while receiving no content? Content that we will now have to pay for as DLC.

Until Update 6, I think they did a good job getting content out on the order of every 6 weeks. Update 5 to Update 6 was a very long stretch, but Tamriel Unlimited is the cause of that, and all of the content delays since Update 6.

Guys i know you cannot understand just how much the console version means to them so i will link my post from before.
Just please look at it from their point of view and i am telling ya now nothing you say will make content come in until a few months after the console version is in and has settled down.

Um i may pull the mickey out of eso now and then for laughs but they are far from falling off the map.

Im going to link my comment from another thread that should shine a light on things for you guys.

All focus is on the console version bud you see the market for the elder scrolls series is 86 percent console for skyrim so that is where the big money is. They must do what they must to make sure that the release goes well console side and i wouldn't expect dlc for at least a month after as well.

Skyrim units sold in the first 48 hours 3,500,000
Skyrim units sold in the first week release 7,000,000
Skyrim sales in the first week of release $450,000,000
    Total Skyrim units sold 23,270,000
    Total Skyrim sales revenue $1,390,000,000
    Average user review rating 92 / 100
Highest number of concurrent players on Steam 320,000
    Skryim Sales By Platform
    XBox 360 59 %
    Playstation 3 27 %
    PC 14 %

So you can see that the console release is really important to them but it should be important to you as well.
Because the income from the consoles is expected to be much more than the pc version thats alot of money to go towards say more devs to push content and bring the rest up ready for release.

    Hope this helps:)

And it's still not true, because it doesn't include digital downloads such as Steam.
Further it's not true everywhere. In Germany for example, PC sales made up half of all Skyrim sales. And that still doesn't include digital downloads.

But even with consoles being a huge market, the comparison between Skyrim and ESO has several problems. There's no clear indication that console players in general will even want to play an MMO just because it's TES, and the new console generation is simply not as ubiqutous as the Xbox360 and PS3 were. Frankly I don't see any reason why ESO would sell better on consoles than on PC, besides the obvious "but Skyrim sold well" - which, as I said, is based on incomplete data.

Not to be doom and gloom, but Imperial City will be a flop if Cyrodiil is left the way it is.

Every alliance has a buff Campaign/Server so the idea that Imperial City will being more and fun PvP is heavily misguided.

Adding another large chunk of content into Cyrodiil when it already has massive issues with performance will only make it that much worse.

PVP STRUCTURE NEEDS TO BE REDONE. Cut Cyrodiil into 4 PvP zone maps like Arena net did with Guild Wars 2. The "Server/campaign" idea was and still is such a horrendous way to structure pvp.

Since the launch of this game, look at how many of the "Top" pvp guilds have exploited and cheated just to win and "be the best" or to get AP. Its pathetic. Fix PvP or this games PvP is lost.

Make the qualification to becoming Emperor more than just about AP because currently a very select group of people can get Emperor and it has nothing to do with skill and ability. 95% AP farming 5% skill and anyone can get emperor. Oh and Haderus is still the Emperor farming campaign.
