Mounts should be revamped (add horseback combat, and allow 2 or more to ride the same mount)

1. Plenty of free to play MMOs have mounts that allow for 2 or more people to ride on it of the owner of the mount allows it. ESO is a subscription based, so it's an expectation that they have the same content as a free to play if not more.

2. Furthermore they should add horseback combat (or if other mounts come out they should have combat too), Skyrim Dawngaurd added this mechanic, and ESO should copy it. The player riding the mount can swing his/her sword left and right or fire arrows from their bow while riding. This will make PvE more fun but it can also make PvP amazing. PvP doesn't have to be just 100s of infantry vs 100s of infantry. It can be more organized and some of those 100s of players can choose to be cavalry and ride into the battlefield on horse. This also opens more stratigic options,(ex. Infantry go take them head on, cavalry come around the back and flank them!). And horse combat won't be OP as in Skyrim Dawngaurd it takes alot more precision to attack while on horse and combat its still more effective on foot than it is on horse. They can also make a way to limit the percentage of players in an area that will be cavalry opposed to infantry.

3. If ESO combines horse combat with 2 (or more depending on the mount, if it's a flying carpet it could fit 4) people riding, the possibilities become endless. The person riding the mount on the front can control the movement of the mount as well as swinging his/her sword at enemies, while the person riding the back can use his/her bow in arrow to shoot at enemies at the same time. Or there can be another combination, this feature would make ESO so much more fun. It can work similar to a segment of the final boss in Zelda Twilight Princess (1 player rides the horse and uses sword combat, the second player sits in back and uses bow combat at the same time).

Which 'plenty of free MMOs have this' and what relevance does that have any way?

Skyrim wasn't an on-line game not sure what relevance that has. LOTRO has mounted combat and it sucks, royally, few LOTRO players use it unless they're forced to, even fewer admit to liking it.

PVP is a minority interest so the huge resources needed to develop this just for PVP would IMO be far better utilised to develop content for the majority.

i used mounted combat in lotro all the time, since you could kite kill the most powerful of mobs solo. but no, wasnt much fun at all.

mounted pvp combat v unmounted i suspect would be magelight all over again. mounted packs run around and fight when they find easy packs, then run from equal packs or when losing.

SWGs wasnt so bad since you blew up there speeder and they have to buy another, but then people just bought stacks of speeders. i suppose if your horse could die... how many people would risk a 42k (+ 12k more for upgrades) horse. but then you get more whining.

in idea, mounted combat is ok, but in reality, it tends to screw the pooch. i fear it would not be implemented well, at least not well enough to justify the manpower to create it.

giving riders i think could work fairly easily. maybe something like half or -25% of the horses speed. but if you got people with maxxed +64% horses, you would get either +32 or +48 speed with a second. would be nice for guild runs when we bring along lower level guildies that havent gotten/leveled horses yet. guests could hit 'h' to dismount or get dismounted when owner dismounts.

well ideally 2. I only put (or more) depending on future mounts that we get so possibilities arn't closed off. For horses, I think 2 is a good number.

Horseback combat reminds me of LOTRO, which was basically riding a speeding car with bad turning control round and round a target until you kill it. Not much fun.

Mounted combat could be viable and not over powered if the only attacks you could do from it would be heavy and light normal attacks, and No skills. 2 people on a horse would be fine. I have friends who just got the game and do not yet have horses. Would be awesome if they could ride with me when doing quests, or in cyrodiil. I wouldnt have to walk with them then lol!.

I'd love to give a ride to people in ESO, help newbies get from one place to the other, or just for screenshots/roleplay purposes.

As for mounted combat, it needs to be carefully designed, of course, and usable in both PvP and PvE. I wouldn't mind a skill line or two for horse combat :) Would be great! (Especially if we get lances.... and acceleration/momentum on horseback)

No it couldn't. It has enough trouble with I hit the key for this ability and want it to activate NOW........waiting... oh wait, your dead.

Mounted combat came to Skyrim via patch, even if you didn't buy the dlc. The reason it was added so late, even though it's been talked about for so long since Oblivion, is it's a hard mechanic to code for. It's sort of lack luster. You can't really sustain melee combat while mounted. Also, when you dismount, your horse remains and likes to charge into combat were it can get in your way. Archery while mounted only had a narrow forward arc to shoot, you couldn't attack broadside, and the horse turned like a tank.

Horses are different in ESO. For one, they never die. Mounted combat would certainly make stamina horses more useful. Since few players upgrade the horse's stamina, few realize how much of a damage sponge the first 20 upgrades makes a horse. You can trot through packs of enemy NPCs for what seems like forever before getting knocked off. Range attack players arriving to a battle on a 50/60 stamina horse would be total beasts. The one thing that could prevent that from being exploited is that you can't remount while in combat.

you have no idea how complicated mounted combat would be to code. To get a glimpse read up on Lord of the rings online mounted combat and the woes of that

It is not that complicated. Just look at Age of Conan. Character can activate all the spells and abilities on horseback. It is simple, and it just works.

Sometimes (especially when you get critical hit) you can be stunned and fall off from horse, and that is the only disadvantage of this system.

Do you two realize this thread is from close to a year ago? This is the second thread made in June 2014 that "link" has bumped. Let the thread die, stop replying to it, and report it as necrobumping. Things relevant back then probably aren't completely relevant now gameplay wise. Let a new thread be made if it's needed.

...that... is actually the recipe for a chariot. Something I'd like to see in the game... can you imagine imperials in chariots? I can. (okay, so I may have watched too many "roman empire" movies, but still...)

And while the thread is old, the idea of mounted combat for ESO is still an valid idea.

I for one would like to see weapon use on horseback, and yes, two-man chariots. Not tomorrow, but... someday.
