What is the PTS version of the client?

Hello I was wondering what is PTS (Public Test Server) of the ESO client? I have been a proud subscriber of ESO since May 2014, but never realized about PTS until I heard it mentioned here on the forums. Is this like a beta version of the next patch in development or does it only effect the client and has no effect on the actual gameplay? Due to all the bugs on the PC version of ESO and possibly the Xbox One version which I pre-purchased through a special offer in the ESO Store I would really like to help with the long term fulfillment of making ESO an enjoyable as bug free as possible experience for everyone. Can any moderator or user point me in the right direction to help?

The PTS is a preview of the upcoming version, and it is a totally separate installation of the game requiring a huge additional download, and you download it from the launcher. However, there is no major update coming for a long time, so the PTS is largely irrelevant at this point.

Even when they have been asking for input before major updates, the tests and bug reports from PTS players have been handled in a slow and inefficient manner, and most of the reported problems on the PTS have been pushed to the live server despite people's best efforts to report bugs early.

The PTS does have some benefit if you have room on the HDD to install it (basically it is a little larger than the stock game most of the time)

What you can do on the PTS is load up VR14 Templates to play with end game builds. You also get all the Champion Points (or you used to, I have not been on it in a while) so you can see what your character will do as you progress through that system.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
