209 Again when is ZOS going to fix this issue? I search through the forums and see this has been an on going problem for the last year and ZOS is just sweeping it under the rug I guess. If you ask support for help this is there response repair, run as admin, reinstall, we have all tried these temporary fixes and its not cutting it. I hope ZOS is eternally nawed by skeevers!!!!

I'm getting it. I just reopen and hit play quick before it comes up, or use a shortcut to the exe file.
    So far so good.

    All Players:

Please perform the following steps below before moving on to Advanced Troubleshooting:

    1. Temporarily disable your anti-virus program(s)
    2. Delete the Launcher folder located at C:\Program Files(x86)\ZenimaxOnline
    3. Login to your account at www.account.elderscrollsonline.com and click “Download Game”
    4. Run the installation file to ensure you have the most updated launcher version installed
    5. Open the launcher
    6. Select the version of the megaserver you are experiencing problems with (NA or EU)
    7. Select Game Options
    8. From the drop-down, select Repair
    9. Allow the Repair option to run
    10. Enable your anti-virus program(s)

Once these steps are complete, you will want to ensure that your anti-virus program(s) are not hindering the connection to the launcher or the game in any way. To do this:

    1. Open your anti-virus program
    2. Create exception for C:\Program Files(x86)\ZenimaxOnline (please note this is the default directory, and you will need to navigate accordingly if you manually changed the directory during the installation process)
    3. Re-test any issues

*Please note that even if you have already created exceptions in the past, large update such as 1.6, or other weekly updates, can cause the exceptions to become void. It is necessary to create new exceptions from time-to-time to avoid any additional problems. Permanently disabling your anti-virus is not recommended for certain issues due to background security services that continue to run. For instructions on creating anti-virus exceptions, please reach out to the author of your specific anti-virus program(s).*

Many customers have also found that repairing their UserSettings.txt file has resolved several issues, including a black screen when pressing Play and instant crashes upon game launch. Check the "usersettings.txt"' file:

    1. Navigate to My Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live (or liveEU if playing on the European megaserver)
    2. Open the file "usersettings.txt" with Notepad (or some other word editor)
    3. Copy and paste the settings found at https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9128/track/AvNMPwpmDv8S~SQXGkse~yIDiv0q4y75Mv98~zj~PP_1
    4. Save the document, close it, and re-test the issue

If your computer appears to be missing the UserSettings file, please create one by following these steps:

    1. Open Notepad.exe
    2. Save the Notepad file as UserSettings in My Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live (or liveEU if playing on the European megaserver)
    3. Copy and paste the settings found at https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9128/track/AvNMPwpmDv8S~SQXGkse~yIDiv0q4y75Mv98~zj~PP_1
    4. Save the document, close it, and re-test the issue.

Suggestion from ZOS when I reported the issue.
I have not tried it yet, as I am at work, and it seems like a generic response as it includes further "advanced" troubleshooting for various other errors.
I'm still waiting on a real human response (go figure).

Exactly as I stated repair, reinstall, run as administrator its all the same just a run around to get us off there backs but it doesn't fix it for long, log out after you follow their steps and you will have to repeat I know I've done it several times today!

What for? Just close out the error and launcher and reopen it until you stop receiving the error message. I have never had to do anything other than that a few times to get the "Play" option to come up.

Just close and re-open the launcher, several times if necessary, and the "play" button will appear. Alternatively, once the game is patched you can simply run it from the eso.exe file in the game folder until next patch day, although the launcher bug will right itself after a day or two. It's a problem that has been raised every single patch day, and it does not require time-wasting on repairing or re-installing the game, or rebooting the computer. Only consider those options if you follow the generally acknowledged workarounds and the game still doesn't run, or there are other problems like in-game crashing etc. This launcher bug really needs to be fixed.

^^^ THIS...... @ZOS_GinaBruno, is Mr. Leeper rewriting the coding for the Launcher? People have problems with it every week after a patch and waste time trying to "Repair" it when there's no need to. This really needs to get resolved.

    Thanks

This was ZOS response to fixing the problem:
    Greetings,

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing an issue when playing our game, and I definitely understand how frustrating this can be and I definitely want to help you get this resolved. From what you are describing in your email, it would seem you might be experiencing an issue connecting to our game. I would first recommend making sure your ports are configured correctly. Please configure your router to open the following outbound ports:

    TCP / UDP Ports 24100 through 24131
    TCP / UDP Ports 24500 through 24507
    TCP / UDP Ports 24300 through 24331

Please also note that Ports 80 and 443 should be open to allow general HTTP and HTTPS access. Please contact your Internet provider to arrange this. If you are still experiencing an issue I would suggest making sure there are no programs that might be conflicting with our game. To do this I would recommend starting your computer in selective start up mode. You can turn services and startup programs on or off individually to see if the problem occurs the next time you restart your computer. Follow the below process to make use of Selective Startup:

    1. Click Start and type "msconfig" in the search option.
    2. Right-click on the msconfig.exe program and choose Run as administrator,
    3. To place your computer into Selective Startup:
    1. On the General Tab at the top, click on the Selective startup radio button,
    2. Uncheck Load startup items.
    4. Click on the Services tab at the top,
    1. At the bottom of the window, click the Hide all Microsoft services check box.
    5. Click the Disable all button at the bottom,
    6. Click Apply, then click OK,
    7. Restart your computer.

When your computer restarts, you will be in Selective Startup.

We recommend you trying the game again and see if you have different results. If everything works fine, then one of the service or start up programs was causing the issues you were seeing. The only way to solve this is to go one by one and turn on each service one at a time. The one that brings up the issue again is the service or start up program that is the problem. Once you find the one you needed to remove, you can turn the Selective Startup off:

You can do this by pressing Start and type "msconfig" on the search option
Turn it off by checking the box Load startup items in the General tab.
    Click on Normal startup.
In the Services tab, unckeck the hide all microsoft service box.
Click on Enable all and then Apply.
    Restart your computer.

You can also just leave your computer in selective start up if you do not wish to go through and enable one by one to find the problem service or start up program.

If you have any other questions or issues feel free to contact us and we will be more than happy to help you further.
Thank you for your continued interest and support!

And this was my response to them:

Seriously contact my internet provider about accessing ports for a video game? And you want me to reconfigure my alienware m14xr2 so it may or may not play the game? These are not solutions to the problem they are temporary fixes if they even work which obviously they don't since others have already tried these fixes does ZOS read there forums? I will try this ridiculous plan but ZOS needs to fix this on there end why you may ask because no one will continue to play a game if they have to continuously reconfigure pc settings and disable some vital programs (antivirus) to get the game to play correctly. Put it this way I'm 29 but what if I was 12 the instructions you gave me to fix my game would have been a foreign language to me I would've just ditched the game entirely. ZOS start using your heads!

I've just been restarting the launcher a few times. Eventually, it lets me play.

They should probably make this a priority fix. It's hard to get new players to play your game if they can't get it to start. Not everyone will go through the effort to check the forums for fixes. I would assume at least a few would just close the launcher and never bother with it again.

If you have to completely reconfigure your PC, buy a new graphics card, change your Internet provider, get a new OS, throw your PC out the window and buy a new one, stand on your head and juggle two kitchen sinks and a commode at the same time in order to make the launcher work...

There's probably something wrong with the launcher.

If CS is telling you to do something drastic, don't do it. Period. It is almost ALWAYS unnecessary. You're going to end up screwing up your H/W configuration.

Bypass the launcher by using the client executable directly or open and close the launcher repeatedly until it works. This problem has been here since before release and CS keeps repeating the same BS.
