This idea is insane, racial differences is one of the cornerstones of all TES games. But in competitive multiplayer game like this, they need to be better balanced, as well as truer to the lore. Some of the racials don't represent the lore at all.. *cough* imperial..

Racial strengths & weaknesses are what contribute to the uniqueness of your character. I personally believe "balance" is whatever combination of racial, boons, armor, champion points, and non-race passives that fits your playstyle and enjoyment of the game. Homogenization of racial passives takes a step back from that.

Those players who want the best stats will always select the best stats regardless if racial passives were taken away or not.

The issue with this is that there are really only 3 races to pick that are optimal for the majority of builds.

The ONLY time racial passives are a good thing is if they are helpful to ALL characters and are small(like small health or a small defense against a specific type of damage or element, or maybe an active like the ones in wow that help all classes)

otherwise, no, racials do nothing but make certain races better then others, in which case, there is no reason really to play any of those other races.

I'm saying no purely because in prior games each race was allocated passives based around their lore and whatnot. Now, I wouldn't mind seeing some of the weaker passives buffed to be on par with the current cookie cutter races, but that's just me.

I didn't choose any of my characters based on their racial passives. You can't choose where you are born, or what you are naturally good at, but you go with what you're given. When everything is equal it makes things a lot less interesting.

This "issue" is actually a problem I have with many MMOs as a whole. Everything is dependent on "balance" yet through creative differences balance becomes disrupted. This prevents many interesting things from ever actually being integrated into these games (horse racing, mini-games, arenas, etc). It's easier not to do anything than to do something exciting and have people whine about balance for the next 10 years. These developers have just spent over half a year doing their best to re-balance and rejuvenate this game rather than making "new" content. And yet in the end whatever they do will make people unhappy because for whatever reason everything needs to be unanimously fair and the only way to do that is to make everyone IDENTICAL.

Please don't ask them to remove the unique aspects of the game. This is something that makes playing through with multiple characters of difference races uniquely rewarding and enjoyable. The "no reason to play as certain races" is nonsense, as not every toon needs to be the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. Some of us enjoy trying things that ultimately will never be a top numbers producer, but hey that's FUN. Remember in Daggerfall and Battlespire when you could create a character that wasn't even able to hold a weapon that was stronger than Iron? Probably not.

A much less drastic move would be to create a separate PVP campaign where racials are identical, or ignored.

I agree with the folks who pointed out what a pain this must be for the developers - no matter what they do - there will be folks who whine about it.

I like the racial differences - although some of them are really weird in this game and just don't make sense to me. But I suppose they don't really have to. I play characters, not stats.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Maybe I'm just stuck in the lore....anyone who played morrowind, or oblivion remembers what me and my friend called "the bible" which was a huge book of information about the games. The character creation and race abilities was a big part in selection.

Class is a new thing but it drives reasonable results so that there is variety.
Ppl have expressed meaningful and interesting points on keeping and removing racial Passover but this goes back to far to change for one game.

I for one am wholly against removing racial differences. The actual passives are debatable, and may benefit from some more adjustment in the future, but i definitely want to see them remain. I definitely want to see Bretons and Altmer stay better at magic then swordplay, and Redguard, Nords or Orcs have an slight edge swinging weapons, or Bosmer with bows, and so on.

That's one of the things I always liked about TES, and fantasy settings in general - that not all are considered equal, but some are better at this, and some are better at that...

There are other games without racial differences in effect, where race is merely cosmetic. But they are not TES games. I for one wouldn't want to miss that piece of TES-ness in ESO... (of course, I have never been one of the min/maxer PvP-fanatics myself, so...)

I would like to see them less powerful, more balanced, and more situational.

Bonuses like +10% max Health or +6% Fire Damage that are great in any combat situation are too strong, in my opinion.

More small, unique bonuses that don't necessarily have an impact on combat (like slightly increased swim speed for example) would be nice, too.

I get some enjoyment out of making a sub-optimal build work, racial passives are part of that. If you're a dedicated min-maxer then why not, lets say, pick the "correct" race for your intended role?

One of the things that has cracked me up about gaming, since I started back in the early 90s with MUDS, is that people can't stand the idea that they arn't the best. Whenever someone dies in a pvp based environment, it is pretty much human nature to say "It's because their class/race/gear/whatever is OP, bla bla bla". It is far less common for people to simply admit that someone could have been better, or luckier at a given point. And then come the rush of "nerf this, nerf that, rise of this, rise of that" posts. Are there some things that could use a little bit of adjustment? Perhaps. I mean, they finally did adjust Bats which is nice. Bats was terrible. Nothing I've seen around right now is as bad as Bats was.

I am a fan of the racials, since they provide for unique builds. If I wanted to just do homogeneous pvp, I'd go play FPS. I like the variety that ESO is providing with racial, class, gear, and CP trees. I run a very different gear setup than most, and focus on max stam rather than weapon power for my dps. Is it optimal? Most would say no, but I have plenty of burst and due to the set i use some nice advantages. There is a lot of variety in ESO which I enjoy. Is every build the best at everything? No. But there are plenty of viable and unique builds which I rather like.

I've played Argonian, Redguard, and Imperial now. And I've enjoyed all three, and tailored different gear and play style tweaks to make the most out of each. Argonian could use a little boost, but I've pondered going back to my Redguard from my Imperial, even though many area crying about Imperials these days.

At the end of the day, I see people succeeding and being in the top leader boards, without whatever the "top dog" whatever is. The #3 place leaderboard character for Azura EP is an Argonian Magika based Templar. From everything I've read in this forum, they shouldn't be able to kill a flea with that though right? My thoughts? Play what you want, and learn how to play it well. If you suck with it, you'd still suck with something "better". L2P.

    Just think about it...
Every TES game had different racial advantages/disadvantages.
If they would remove that, race would be simply a cosmetic choice.
    That's really bad.
In RPG games it's really important to have one of two things:
Racial Skills where each race is completely different and you can pick your own according to your play style
or racial class restriction when you pick class you have only limited choice of races.
Both things make a lot of sense, but for mmo like ESO best way was sticking to the racial passives.
That's really best part of rpg ...you need to build your character in a way that will suit your needs.
You can't simply have EVERYTHING
    That would be boring

I voted NO, simply because sole idea of removing racial passives is absurd. As removing racial actives wasn't enough?
Racial pros and contras are probably what made you play your main race. They are an essential part of EVERY RPG game, and especially an Elder Scrolls one.

Having Racial passives / Meaning in their choice, is one of the good aspects of the game. One that too few mmo's have the courage to even attempt.

Removing them would be one step closer to failure. I for one don't want things dumbed down to appease balance. They should tweak and adjust when required sure but never remove them for the sake of being lazy.

The value that they add to character personalisation and to the already stated lore, is irreplaceable.
