My question is this can you trun off the run if want to for have not found a button for it like most other mmo you trun off and on the run for sometime it would nice to just slow down when im in big city.

Load your character, press esc, go to Controls menu, in General (movement) look for ¨Toggle Walk / Run¨.

If you do not have a key assigned, choose one.

I find it to be a good way to find roleplayers, for only they walk in cities. I can ignore everyone else. After all, it's a super pretendy fun time game for me. :)
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Yes, you can turn off the run. Go into controls - I have run/walk toggled to f12.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Welllll this is kind of an "each their own" thing. If people want to run, let them. Also, the walking animation is horrible. My heavy armor imperial looks like he is on a catwalk lol. Terrible animation job really.

Does anyone still remember TES3:Morrowind? The default movement speed when you started the game was excruciatingly slow. Getting anywhere took ages, and you could not run from anything. Your "running" was as if in slow motion. I consider myself a patient gamer, and I don't feel a need to rush things, but even I was very, very grateful for the Boots of Blinding Speed.

The city environments in ESO are huge, presumably to accommodate the large crowds of players they expected. Look at the size of the buildings, the stairs and the open spaces. It's ridiculously far between places you need to travel to back and forth, even inside a city. Sentinel is a particularly over-sized city, but all cities are big. Windhelm and Riften are more than twice as large as they were in TESV:Skyrim, and even in Skyrim I used to run between the buildings. No wonder people summon their mounts in ESO just to get from the bank to the crafting station.

it's still a game and people still have only a few hours sometimes to play.... some have family etc...

and RP takes a lot of energy and concentration to do (at least for me... i'm a horrible actor...) it's quite a difficult psychological exercise to do it , even with a toon and after work...

so people just prefer to do things quickly in ESO, go here , buy this, go there, sell this :)... go back over there check that...

The console version offers a control of movement speed based on how much you move the joystick. Hopefully this will be implented with the PC controller support.

I have family, personal activities, full time job, I spend most of my time away from the Pc (time to forum), and yes I play the game.

I start in beta until today and I have only one VR character (VR5). I do not like the rush, fast grind and the races to go first to the end.

I play, take some screenshoots, make some videos, enjoy the quest, look for details in game, and of course, I progress my character, but on my way, so I use some times the walk mode to enjoy the enviroment in the game.

I do not look for strict role, just some immersive things.

I am glad that you enjoy taking your time and enjoying the views in the cities. I personally find it painfully boring to walk.

in my personal opinion, I also find it painfully boring to type (or macro) phrases like

"he tips his hat in a gentle westerly direction and smiles wryly while holding a flagon of wine in a graceful but sturdy fashion and whimpers at the attractive pixels aimlessly wandering past 'heellloooo...' "

It is over-the-top and unnecessarily artificial and try-hard attempt at roleplay and I cannot help but roll my eyes every time I have the pleasure of reading such rubbish.

Why can't roleplayers use private mesages so that I don't have to read it?

    /sarcasm off.

Same principle. I wouldn't really ask roleplayers to use private messages. Why is it reasonable to ask us all to walk?

To be honest... I would rush everywhere in real life too; in the end I just keep a brisk pace instead of running, otherwise other people would look at me funny. Time is the most precious resource.

While my character's horse is left at the city gates, walking slowly just takes too long to get stuff done.

whaaat, are you suggesting that the guards (more like almighty gods on two feet!) should be stopping me for running? :scream: as the first post said, it comes down to time. we all have things that we want to do, quests that we want to cash in on and so forth. however, I do agree that 'taking it all in' can be very rewarding. sometimes I really praise the makers (in my head :joy: ) for the amount of detail and work that went into every aspect of this game.

I don't want to spend 20 minutes in the city when I can be there for only 10. Sometimes "immersion" is a bad word. I don't play ESO for some kind of second life, I play for fun. My characters are toons, they have no special story or agenda except to get from dropped out of the sky to V14 as quickly/efficiently as possible.

Forced slowness, on screen notifications, or guards warning me I'm going to fast would be just stupid, and ineffective to my immersion.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

You want to remove the visible presence of an act of someone who has different tastes, I do not want to eliminate the presence of your actions, I only suggest the voluntarily use of a function that exists in the game (Walk / Run) which allows me to continue watching your participation in the game, only less rushed.

The details of things that take place during the passage of time also tend to be a treasure of incalculable value and if does not appreciate are drain along with the time and are lost forever. Do not waste your time, but also must not pass unnoticed through it.

Just information: I have no automatic running things, I hold down my running button.

Yes, you have an auto run option besides the run that consume stamina in the game, is a run mode less fast and do not consume stamina.

You have 3 options in game: Walk, automatic run, and run faster with stamina cost.

I do not suggest that the guards stop you, where you take this idea?

I suggest a warning when you passing, just to remind that you are using your auto-run all time, and maybe is not necessary.

Go less faster do not make the game your second home, just is an other way to play a fantasy game. All the characters are toons, just some of these pass too fast that is impossible to stay sure of this.

And the game is all the content, no the end game content, some users choose to play all the content, some users choose rush and play the end.

That is why my suggestion is optional, and I ask for the point of view of other users, thank you for sharing yours.

once again, people would not care about that message and find it annoying. The people who run all the time could care less about what the fudge the guard is saying and problaby would just ignore them, even the RPers who are running.

it is pretty obvious to everyone but you that no one wants this and that it is not happening anyway.

the real problem is that u cannt modify the walk settings in the game ,it's not like skyrim where u could speed the walk anyway u like, here u can eighter run, sprint, or walk which is very slow walking..
i myself walk a lot ,especially when exploring, that way u get to find all the treasures and hidden chests.
actually after reaching v2 i find myself even doing quests walking,it's fun.easy going ,that's me..

I actually have no idea what they said beyond the OP, for some reason it doesnt block those when you have someone ignored lol >_<

But 'Entitled' sounds about right. What PKMN12 said, all round pretty much. Walking? Aint nobody got time fo dat. Looks damn right weird when people do it in an MMO anyway.

"Auto-run" is one of the 3 or 4 hotkeys I bind as soon as I load up a new MMO. It always feels a comfortable pace for default movement, and I toggle "walk" if I need to slow down to accompany an NPC on a quest. I almost never sprint in a game as it seems wholly unrealistic, and hardly ever use a mount because I'd be forever getting off it to harvest each node I pass.

Yes, but if you see comment # 48, not all users know of the existence of this option.

    So I proposed this idea.

I think a better aproach would be to first give adjustable walking speed or just slightly faster walking speed.

I basically love taking it slow as i know i am playing a game and everything i do is basically wasting time to have fun so.. I walk.

Here is the but.... The fact that walking is so horribly slow that it makes all characters feel lazy.. Really really lazy.. I think that since our characters are heroes, we should have a walking speed of people who are fit and have option for slower if someone wants to play slower person.

I also think that running in the first place should be based on stamina and with faster stamina consumption which could be improved with Athletics skill tree which would have passives and ability for sprinting.

I think that horses and mounts in general should be the way tpo traavel faster.

One last thing, no matter what the walking or running, using of mounts should be disabled when inside a major city like Daggerfall, Mournhold, Ebonheart etc...

Last of all, i think people need to be forced to slow down and be reminded that they are only playing a game and that they are not in a hurry to anywhere, maybe if we just remove all the levels as measure of what can you do and where, people would not be in such a hurry to level up. Skills and stats are the only things that level should improve and everyone should be able to do anything from get go, only with greater difficulty since they are not so skilled yet (Ability/Stat/Passive) as opposed to level.

This is an MMO, you DO realize this right?

Sorry, but your ideas fail hard in an MMO where not everyone cares at all about RPing, atmophere, etc. and where balance is everything.
