well, Keyboards will NOT be usable in chat, only usable in naming guilds (this is not speculations, they have now said this several times).

Now, normally, i would say they would simply use the built in, screen-keyboard (Which would be bad enough), but considering they specifally state what you CAN use a keyboard on (guild names) which would be something you would be also be able to use the in-built screen one, it seems possible, if not likely, there will be NO text-based chat at all.

That sucks big time, I can only hope it gets added.

I'll chat with friends and group members, obviously.

But this game will need a chat box (even if it does use the console keypad, like all the other console mmo's, big deal)

The reasons are many, an opinion from someone who has played pretty much, every mmo worth playing.

I seriously don't get, why they removed the text chat from the console version. I didn't seemed as if many console players use voice chat, at least not in Destiny or GTA V. And those in GTA that use it, normally get muted by me as they are annoying.

There are many players who can't or won't use voice chat. How should they communicate?
What about RP? How should that work? Obviously, ESO is a MMOG on console, missing the RP in between ...

A year ago I would have laughed at this thread for the utter ridiculousness of it, because every MMO on console has a chatbox and lets you plug a keyboard in and type, even back on like the PS2 and even older consoles.

Nowadays, though, I ain't so sure.

As far as we know, this function should be available, though I guess it will take some time to type your message through the notepad. Did you know there will be some voice command as well?

I can confirm there is no chatbox in the console version of ESO.

I remember a long time ago how chat was a real pain for devs in LOTRO. I wonder if chat in this game is causing issues with lag? More people in game more chat going on could be causing lag issues. Which would explain why text chat is out of console release.

I'm not saying it is just wondering if this could be a valid reason?

This is an Elder Scrolls game and its an open world online rpg not an mmo and I don't want a chat window cus I don't like it and it don't belong on the screen and yes I do play solo.... Also for those of you mmo players that want the chat window then stay with the pc version.. damn Leave the console alone for us true Elder Scrolls players..

This is the first time I've been tempted to use insightful as LOL. Seriously dude, this is a MMO lol however many quirks it has, it still is, sorry. And omg LOL again at the leave Britney alone "true Elder scrolls players" on console argument. I needed a good laugh, thanks!

If Zenimax is so hardcore about voice chat being used they should at least add a trade chat channel. But everyone knows it will just turn into a group finding chat room with loads of children spamming nonsense.
