Returning Nightblade Player Needs Help with Build

So, I have been away from the game for quite awhile but have decided to try and pick it up again. I pretty much only have one character, a Veteran Rank 1 Orc Nightblade who is also a Vampire. I have been just mucking about and killing mobs randomly and I seem to either do very well or get killed very quickly. I was wondering if anyone might give me some help. I do ask that you do be patient because I'm almost pretty much brand new at this game again. I'm unfamiliar with most of the mechanics and jargon. I never really did any group quests or dungeons that I couldn't just solo.

I am currently using all heavy armor and use a 2 handed weapon. Here is a quick run down of my character (Let me know if I need to give more info please!)

My attributes are as follows:

Health 20, Magicka 15, Stamina 14

My bar is set up like so:

Swallow Soul 4, Reverse Slash 4. Power Extraction 3, Rally 1, Leeching Strikes 4, and Devouring Swarm 4

I currently have the Boon: Thief.

Any suggestions? Or is there more information I can provide? Thank you for your help!

Well, what do you want to do with your character? Do you want to go on playing alone, do you want to group up woth others to do dungeons or do you want to do PvP?

Well, I'm probably going to be playing alone, but if I found a group I would love to join up with them, I've debated on trying to tank as well. I'm not usually into PvP unless I'm with a group of people.

So I would probably say, just advice for a solo build at the moment. I don't know if it's possible to be able to do some bosses. Like I just did one on Soulfire Plateau (I think?) that had 3 pretty hard mobs that I got killed pretty quickly on until 2 other random players showed up to help.

I guess I should also add that I'm not opposed to switching my weapons, though I have never used a staff of any kind or a bow. I've fiddled around with sword and board, dual wield and two handed mostly.

currently, post 1.6, you are much better off if you focus on one damage resource. Since you are using two handers, go for a stamina build.

Just wondering, do you have a second weapon skilled? It just seems as if you only have a two hander on both of your bar.. But i am assuming.

Rally, wrecking blow, killer's blade, mirage, carve and veil of blades.

Its simple, not to fussy about min maxing but effective in dealing with any amount of mobs. Rally at start of fight, finish them off with killers blade. Mirage, veil of blades when it gets tough. Wrecking blow spam for the full effect.

On The second bar you can also use dual wield and gain some crowd control with the second bar.

Lotus fan, mass hysteria, steel tornado, rapid strikes, dark shades, soul tether.

You can change steel tornado for whirling blades for better stamina management but it really is all up to you. I prefer shadow image than dark shades but I have a feeling you would appreciate dark shades more.

Hope this might help you and be a foundation on being a better nightblade.

OK so here's how I see the two handed NB these days.

Stamina, all stamina all the time. You need one assassination skill slotted on each bar and might want one skill from each of the other class lines.

The two handed toolkit is extremely good as it is, you can slot all five of them and the assassination ultimate and have a great build.

The two essential 2h skills are brawler and rally, the other utilities can be replaced with class skills and often should be. Ambush, surprise attack, and killers blade would all be good choices for alternatives.

Seems like you have a lot of ability overlap in your build right now like having rally and extraction in the same bar.

I like to use a bow or DW in the other bar and I always keep reapers mark in the same slot I keep rally on the 2h bar for quick swaps , RM is insanely good now if you use it right, mark something weak and kill it halfway through a fight for the huge heal.

Keep the brawler bleed/shield up and recast rally, +killers blade, +reapers mark for heals, 2h NB is just amazing now.

    Hope some of that helps.

    Thanks for the tips guys!

I currently only have the one weapon slot, I'm going to try out some different things, and the ideas you guys listed seem like some excellent things to try!

drop leeching strikes and either replace it or go with siphoning attacks. Leeching strikes is pure garbage.

now, due to how the game is set up nowadays, you need to go all in with either magicka or stamina, or half it off with health. Hybrid builds are crap right now unless you are just a god at this game and can somehow make a hybrid build work.

for 2H you will need uppercut. since you are a NB you will need rally for the self heal. slot critical charge if you want to go toe to toe with people, and replace power extraction with aspect of fear.

Get assassins blade and choose your preferred morph. You will need that executioner. OR you could stick with reverse slash, whichever you choose.

if you plan on using a bow or a stave, then be sure to use mark target so you can get the extra damage.(in fact if you can work mark target into your build, do so) the morph you use is your choice, as they are both excellent morphs. if you wish to use a knock back, then go ahead, but i myself dont use one seeing as how I have either 2H or DW with my bow at all times.(DW for PvE, 2H for PvP) if your focus is PvE, then you need an AOE, so you may actually need to use power extraction or some form of AOE. cleave is ok, but there are better AOEs out there.

In fact, if your focus is PvE, I highly advise going DW for steel tornado, as it is a great AOE. swallow soul is ok, but you dont need it. replace it with something else.

keep in mind that you have two bars starting at level 15, so you do NOT have to replace your 2H bar if you do not want to.

the ultimate you want to use is up to you. I personally use incapacitating strikes, which is a morph of deathstroke that knocks down enemies with more health than me, which is VERY helpful:)

oh, and work in dark cloak, morph of shadow cloak, into your build. It purges DOTs and is very helpful even if you are not stealth oriented.

Thanks for the tips Cody! I've found a guild I'm enjoying running around with, trying to learn to tank, they're helping me, and actually tried out Cyrodiil. I actually do enjoy it, even when I'm dying, lol. We're going to be learning PvP in my guild as well. I'll have to try out those things you mention Cody, they seem pretty interesting and solid choices.

Thanks again for the help guys!
