ESO shutting down my PC numerous times! :(

Ever since the update last week whenever I have ESO running (and nothing else besides skype) I can't be in game very long and it totally shuts down my whole computer. I thought it was a fluke the first time but I've tried to get on the game and play with a friend and it did it 3 times to me last night and after that I was to pissed to get back on. I don't want it ruining my PC until I get help figuring out what is causing this to happen!

Am I the only one this is happening to? Can anyone help me? I've run Dxdiag, I seen a post about running a Core Temp so I tried that also. Not that I have a clue what to DO with this info so I'm here looking for help PLEASE!!! I miss playing, but ESO is the ONLY game I play that's doing this complete shut down! HELP!

ESO is not optimized for managing temperatures (like most games) for high end CPU's. I'm guessing your system is over heating and shutting down without warning.

CoreTemp would be how hot your CPU etc. is getting. What temperature is it running at while playing the game?

I've been running this game for about a year and never had a problem until the last few updates though. Is there any way to help me figure out WHY and what is causing it???

Use CoreTemp to find out what temperature the CPU is running at while playing the game... if it's a normal temperature then it has to be something else. As well, you should most likely send in a support ticket with your consultant file attached, as this will let support know what the specs of your PC are. Have you tried switching the graphics to the lowest possible setting and playing awhile?

last night when I had the Core Temp running and was only running around in Shadowfen to see what it would tell me.... I seen it get up to 87 on the CPU #0 thats on the bottom on that box. Before I could look at other numbers on the box it shut down my PC yet again :( I'm not sure if that makes/keep a log to find in here?

I did turn down a few things from HIGH to Med last night before I started moving around to see what it was going to do. Not sure what you mean by consultant file though? But I did do a bug report

That's a high temperature (if it's in C), your PC is likely shutting down to save itself. It may only be doing this for ESO because the other games you play may not make your PC work as hard. I would recommend bringing it in to a computer repair shop. It's possible your CPU cooler or some fans are not working.. therefore your PC is overheating. You can definitely give a shot at sending in a customer support ticket with a game consultant file attached though.

Check out here for how to get a game consultant file.. then use the email option on the website to send in a support ticket with that attached.

I built this PC myself less then a year ago and I definitely do NOT take it to shops, not at there costs! I checked and all fans seem to be running on CPU, PSU, NVidia card... and all the other fans are running.

What else can I run to check on the dif parts and how they are running and send the files for help? I'm more then willing to do that here for anyone to help me.

Sorry, I did not know you were tech savvy ;) I don't use core temp so not sure what info it gives you to look around. In my last post I linked the support article explaining how to get a game consultant file. Send that to Support. If your fans are running fine and its a year old I imagine the thermal paste is fine.. I really don't know.

Maybe in that short time you had to look at coretemp, maybe you were accidently looking in the wrong spot. Maybe its not overheating at all. If it has to do with the game itself I think sending in a ticket to customer support is your best bet.

Well I"m only savvy soooo far!! LoL I can build a PC but when things like this happen with only ONE game I need helping figuring out just what is the cause and what I might need to replace if anything. That is why I'm HERE in hopes of getting help. I'm willing to send files that can be looked at to help figure it out just need to know what to run and what files to send! :)

Ok I sent in that report and I hope they get back to me asap to get this figure out. That's why I came here in hopes of getting the help and not having to bother just the support techs. :)

Well I did a few things myself and "thought" I'd log in to test it to see if it's fixed... after I login and it goes to my characters, after 20 sec or so it bounces me back to login with a <<1>> error??? Yes I did a repair several times and that didn't work.

I was searching through the forums trying to see if there was a fix but either I'm overlooking it or there isn't one yet? Anyone?
  • SapphireThunder
    for the first problem:

1: what kind of system specs you have

2: what cooler you are using on your processor?

    3: re-check the temperatures

as for the <<1>> problem: no one knows.

If you are sure all the fans are working and it is still getting too hot

    - make sure the air can circulate freely in the case, unclutter cables and be sure the vent holes are free
    - re-apply thermal paste where necessary, make sure not to use too much paste as this is counterproductive

    and yeah specs would help

If you find out it's not overheating, then its possibly due to a faulty or overloaded power supply unit. Have you added anything to the PC recently like an extra DVD ROM or something? This was once a problem i had.

Well my PC case is on the floor under my desk, and after I thought about it, I hadn't pulled it out to dust it out in quite a while, seems how it's so hard these days for me to crawl around on the floor! LoL I discovered that it was quite dusty, especially the heat sink on the CPU... so once I got it all cleaned out it's now running at 30 C TOPS. So yay I figured it out myself this time.

I was able to get into ESO finally after about 15 tries and rebooting, and repairing a several times, and switching to a different character. Hopefully they get that <<1>> error figured out that a lot of us keep getting though.

Thanks for all the help!! :)

30 tops does not sound like any cpu temp, but some other sensor on the mobo.

Using the Core Temp app that was suggested to me... on the bottom is the Temperature Readings and the CPU temp shows the Min and Max that it runs at. Before I cleaned it all up the other night it was way up around 87C but now I haven't seen it over 30 even stressing it in game and such. :)

Your cooler sure was horribly blocked.

more likely the fan was completely stopped. What sort of cpu do you have anyway?

I also recommend cleaning your room more often than once a year, if a rig built in less than a year ago is already filled with dust. ;)

I think there is something like that:
    Power-Mac-8100-19.JPG

And there is nothing to do without cleaning it.
    Processor's heatsink after a year:

There is no airflow, no cooling. Dismount and clean it manually. Or ask for a technical support.

takes years to build up that much dust, as shown in the pics above. or extremely dirty room.

LoL I do clean all the time, but I sometimes forget with my tower being under my desk that I need to open and clean that out more often too. The reason it builds up with dust so much is because I run a pellet stove for heat and that produces a LOT, and I do mean a LOT of dust. I could dust daily and still not be able to keep up with it during the winter when it's running! :( Sometimes we have to take the good with the bad I guess right? ;)

Yep that is exactly what I did with all the easily removable parts was to get them cleaned up again. Seems how I built it, I clean it! Just have to remember during the winter to do it more often for sure.
