ZoS - Do console versions have any form of text chat at all besides Mail?

Some people on these forums are claiming that just because the console versions lack keyboard support for chatting (TERRIBLE decision by the way), it doesn't mean there is no text chat period. I personally do not get this, but it's a claim going around nevertheless.
I am really concerned how zone, large guilds, lfg, trade, and rp chat will work without text chat, if this is the case.

So a massively needed clarification request, Will the console versions have absolutely ANY form of text chatting for the above channels? If not, then how are those functions expected to work at all?

@ZOS_JasonLeavey @ZOS_GinaBruno Since you two seem to be clarifying things the most on these forums, I am hoping one of you two can shed some light here.

English is not my first language, Finnish is.
Please don't heap on me for grammar problems.

It's going to be like in Destiny, Endgame will be for people that are comfortable using a mice wile the reset that for any reason use only chat will be left out.
After a wile a 3party LFG will form but only few % will use it ending up with many people leaving the game after a month or two.

I bet once BETA hits this will be addressed and it won't be the problem ppl are trying to make it out to be.
However, I do hope zone chat is "off" but am open to any other non-game changing methods as people claim the game isn't playable otherwise.

My personal opinion is LoL as I always have zone chat off unless I make a new character and forget.

I've turned it back on just to see what everyone's all upset about. All I've seen the last two days are advertisements for guilds, trading, trolling and lfg.

Basically it's not needed on console...or you end up with the same negativity that PC has and problems due to rumors spreading and unsolicited opinions or entitlement mind sets via ingame zone chat

    Hey everyone,

We wanted to provide an update on keyboard support for the console version of ESOTU. Unfortunately, the message I posted in this thread yesterday was based on our development plans from earlier in the year, which included keyboard support for chat. However, keyboard support for chat is not something that will be available for the console version of the game. You will be able to use a keyboard for text entry in areas such as guild naming, etc., but not for chatting. Mouse support is not planned for the console version of ESOTU.

As things change in development, we definitely try our best to stay on top of those changes to keep you in the loop, but we know that misinformation can be frustrating. Again, we apologize for the confusion.

It makes no difference if you want to text chat on the PS4 it is built in, you don't even have to be in the same game.
This is in addition to the normal voice chat, where you can individually mute who you want for those squeaky voiced kids.
We are used to voice chat on consoles as that is the norm.
I use the same usb keyboard on my PS4 and PC.

    From the Playstation website:
You can use the Party function to chat via voice and text with up to seven of your Friends and fellow players on the PS4 and PS Vita.

The Party function is available while using a game or other application, even if the other people in the chat are using a different game or application. An additional benefit of Parties is they make it easy to invite people into the game you're playing, so you can keep everyone together from game to game.

    This is not game specific.

WHAT CHAT SYSTEMS ARE AVAILABLE TO PLAYERS ON CONSOLES?
    Updated 04/17/2015 06:37 PM Published 01/28/2015 11:24 AM
The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will support voice chat.

Console versions of the game will also provide limited input by USB-connected keyboards for features not already supported by voice chat or controller input.

So PS4 has the ability to have a party with keyboard chat features. At least PS is catering to the group player needs.

Both consoles allow group text chatting. The Xbox one doesn't simultaneously use group voice chat and text group chat in one window but on the Xbox one you can be in any group party voice chat and/or ingame voice chat while snapping text chat so both consoles take care of this "using a keyboard"

Gotcha. It's a shame this isn't built directly into the game client on launch. I highly dislike consoles, but I'm all for additional communication options for all.

You have to understand the whole point of consoles having these features was mainly due to games not doing them in a way that worked best for each console.
IF you have either one and have play a few online games, once you gain friends or followers which can be 1k to 2k, those console features outweight most ingame functions and features so a developer will not work on such unless they can forgive out how to do so in ways that far outweight what's available by default.

Ppls habits are to use what's familiar vs what's new and others constantly reject change.

Ah, my mistake. I guess my thinking was based on those earlier plans as well :stuck_out_tongue:
