Playing ESO in Surround on 3 Asus ROG Swift Monitors

Hey folks! I was just going through my old Twitch streams and came across a video I didn't realize was there. I play ESO on a single Asus ROG Swift monitor. This monitor is a beast and probably the best gaming experience I have ever had. At $800 a monitor, that's exactly what anyone should expect. A few months ago I picked up my 2nd GTX 980 graphics card and started running games in SLI when possible. Now that I had all this gaming power, I decided to give the surround experience a try. I purchased 2 more of the Swift monitors and was super excited to see what the gaming experience was like.

Let me tell you... It was AWESOME! Especially with the visuals in this game. I was running through Cyrodiil and found myself ducking when I passed a tree on the left while riding my horse. The siege scenes were awesome. The horizon, the keeps, everything was just an eye-gasm to look at. I kinda started feeling sick while playing it because the visuals were so consuming. Unfortunately, running 3 monitors at 2560 x1440 was still a little taxing on the GPUs and I wasn't able to run everything at the highest settings on certain games without slowing down the performance a little. Also it was hard to find support for other games out there. ESO ran pretty well at about 40+ FPS in Cyrodiil, but other games slowed down a bit. I know the eye can't notice much, but I like it when my FPS is closer to 100. I didn't realize how much of a task it would be to play other games in 3 monitor surround, and at $800 a monitor I decided to return 2 of them and just keep the single setup. I did end up purchasing a 2nd Asus monitor so that I could have a 2 screen setup while streaming, but boy do I miss that 3 monitor setup.

Anyway, here is a clip that I just uploaded to YouTube of what it is like to game on those 3 monitors in surround. The first half of the clip is a little boring because I was just in awe of everything. Actually, the entire video is kinda boring. You can hear my guildies talking in the background, but for some reason my voice wasn't recorded on that stream. I was just running around in Cyrodiil. I wasn't prepared for fighting. I was just taking everything in. It was an awesome experience.

Enjoy! And follow me on my Twitch channel if you are into that scene. www.twitch.tv/ThePhillyAntShow

how did you get it to play in surround?

    I play on a multitouch screen - I don't duck branches; i pet them

There is an add-on that gets the game to work in surround. I believe it is called Wykkyd's Multi-Screen. It allows you to set up everything so that your UI is still functioning in the center monitor.

Um, what? Really? OK, now you've got me seriously considering getting another graphics card and a 3rd monitor...

Yeah, it's nice. The key is to make sure all 3 can run at the same resolution and refresh rate. Not a lot of games out there that this works for. Battlefield 4 was awesome and so was F1 Racing, but I couldn't justify the cost of these monitors to own 3 of them and not be able to use them to their full advantage. It as an awesome experience though.

I wanted to, but I was already out of desktop real estate the way it was!

OP, for the record, I'm running dual 27" Viewsonic's w/ 3ms response and they look very crisp.

Bright it bright and dark is dark. (Get some curtains and your contrast will be even better!)

Oh yeah, desk real estate was brutal. I had to take my 27" iMac and elevate it above the other monitors. NOPE! lol

Blast! There's the flaw in my plan! My desk only barely fits my 2 27" monitors - I don't think I'd be able to fit a third.

I was one of the fortunate customers who got one of these Swift 27" ROG G-Sync monitors when they first came out. Playing games with G-Sync on, including ESO, is amazing!!!

With all the issues surrounding SLI and Crossfire in relation to MMO's, I just could't justify the cost... honestly, you'd want 1 high end graphics card for each monitor... you are talking well over a grand for 3 high end videocards... probably closer to 2 grand... and then $800 per for each monitor... and you would also require a beefy PSU to run 3 high end videocards...

    Yeah... pretty expensive...

If SLI actually worked properly with MMO's... I would do it.

I haven't watched the video yet... but the only way to do a Tri monitor setup is portrait view... like this

I'm running nVidia surround for a couple years now (nowadays it's 2x nvidia surround, so 6 screens for two gaming machines) and tbh I could not imagine playing any game on just one screen these days...

That wykkyd addon is neat, personally prefer it all stretched out across the screens, though would really like it if ZOS would implement the option to move UI items around (similar to e.g. FTC items that can be moved where you want to).

For both a three screen or six screen setup I'd recommend monitor arms rather than individual monitor stands, gives a bit more space on the desk and also helps with moving the screens around a bit.

    This is my setup :)

Kildayen, nice setup. I too have been running 3 monitors on 4 way Titan SLI from day 1 ESO release. I get a sustained 60fps with all settings turned up to the max but my res is less than yours though. I am only at 5760x1080 combined res. You will get very use to this, I played ESO on a laptop recently and what a difference without prereferral vision.

I got mine from my local Staples store, but you can also find them on Amazon. Just make sure you get the right size and height. You don't want your monitor too high up.

I believe this is the same one I got from Staples. The measurements match mine.

They also sell this one which is a little bit bigger. I have one under my TV and my printer in the same room. Saves a lot of space and allows me to put my PS4 under the TV and my cable/DVR box under my monitor. I can try to get some pictures up if you want to see what it looks like.

Yeah that prereferral vision was nice when I was using them. I hated having to return them, but $800 for each monitor and not being able to run them to their full potential, I just couldn't talk myself into keeping them. They are that expensive because of the G-Sync, the 2560x1400 resolution, 144Mz refresh and 1Ms response time. If I can't take full advantage of those things, then I can't feel good about the money I spent. Running on 1 of those monitors is still an incredible experience though.
