As much as I love this game...

I'm not sure how much more I can take it. I love the previous games on console, but after playing the "Welcome back Weekend for Beta Members" I'm not 100% sure if I WANT to buy ESOT when it releases on hard-disk this June. There's some things that annoy the crap out of me.

1. Extremely hard to gain coin. I craft, though mostly provisions because I find more cooking items and recipes compared to any other, and then I simply sale those, but with most items found in-world it's mostly 0-1 coin. Seriously, zero coin? Could be at least 1 coin, at least, yeesh! I'm not the type of person that enjoys joining "people" Guilds and working with others unless I know them already, either in person or from other games. This is because most people aren't helpful and get really "angry" if you keep dying and/or failing in something or they're simply there to help themselves. I'm, also, not going to spam the chat with items I have for sale. I've seen some people either over-price items or simply lie about the item. If any Mod/Admin sees this, perhaps the game should introduce a trading system where people can either post their item(s) for sale or seek certain item(s). That way people can see how much it's either selling for or how much certain people are willing to spend on the item. Seriously, this feature in Guild Wars 2 is the BEST and I love it. So would love it for ESO too! Makes things easier and allows members to stop spamming the chat, find items they're wanting, to sell items they no longer want and make a profit instead of selling to NPC merchants for dirt cheap or from having to destroy the item because it sales for nadda/zero..

2. Due to being hard to gain coin as previously stated, the mounts are unbelievable expensive! Why?! I can buy a real horse for much cheaper than the current 42-43K! Yes, I know there is one for 17K, but being who I am, I like one that looks physically appealing as well as traits, etc. Maybe if I'm lucky enough, they'll make one available through a mission or something. We always got at least one free horse through a mission in the console games so why should online be any different? It doesn't have to have great traits since it's free, but obtaining it like this would be nice.

3. Horrible lags... I've died a few times due to the lags in this game either when traveling, missions, or simply trying to run away from the guards. They could try to introduce more servers? I'm not sure how to check the current servers available so I don't know how many they have. I've still gotten lag by making graphics the minimum (which looks unsettling horrible, by the way xD)

4. Speaking of guards... I've only tried the life of a thief because I read you can get easy coin by stealing items from the Fighters and Mages Guild, however... I've lost about 600 in gold because I couldn't out-run the guards. They use that chain the drags you back >.< ugh. I normally don't steal things in-game unless I'm unseen, but some items are just in that area where it's nearly impossible not to be seen. So after my wanted went away, I finally put my coin in the bank so I wouldn't lose anymore. I don't even repair my equipment because I've been trying to save for a mount (I'm about 4K, by the way ;-;).

5. Everything is overly priced. I would understand this IF it was easier to make coin, but it isn't, therefore, shouldn't things be cheaper?

*sighs* I've thought about getting the Imperial Edition just to get the mount, but I don't really know. I don't want to spend $20 more just for a horse because I won't use the Imperial Race. I much prefer my Khajiit nearly always. Maybe an elf or Argonian once in a while, but yeah... you catch my drift.

I, also, have a 25% off coupon which I really want to use before it expires (May 20th) but it kinda sucks I cannot use it to pre-order a hard-copy since the ESO store only offers digital and it won't allow me to buy any Crowns unless I already have the game. So, yeah. :/ I'm tempted in trading coupon for enough coin/crowns for a mount.. XD
I'm a female. Please don't mistake me for a male. ;x

It is only hard to earn coin at the beginning.
Between questing, writs, and thieving, I now earn something like 30,000-50,000g per day. I wish I had more stuff to spend my gold on!

Hmm. Perhaps we are playing entirely different games? For me - money is free. I can make thousands in very short amount of time. I won't say how I do it - but it has nothing to do with farming recipes and then trying to sell them. What I do doesn't require a second player in any way. However - this (selling to players) too is perfectly viable. Best way to make money at lower levels is to learn your alchemy plants and harvest them and sell them to players. Have you joined one of the many marketing guilds? Columbine is perhaps the best selling plant in-game. It is used to make the big-three potions that make healing health, magika, and stamina all at once. Generally, it goes for around 150 gold. And it spawns in the starter areas and a lvl 1 could harvest it. It amazes me to watch people walk right by these without harvesting.

How are you crafting? What are you crafting? I have maxed out all of the crafts. I make so much money that I have given my new guild about 75k worth of gold and "prizes" for the weekly raffle.

That being said, this is not a cross platform title. When the game starts on PlayBox it will be a brave new world. The economy will be zeroed out and it will form according to how YOU build it. It will take a while for the prices to reach the level they have already reached on PC version.

Valid concerns but many gameplay related items can be worked around the longer you play as somehow I have over 100k and I don't use the ah or trade much.

Crafting isn't a money maker if that's your intent until later...later and as such you'll need to be very proficient
    Gaining coin
Well just quest and sale loot. As that should net you over 1k or more each time you fill your bags just using vendors

Guards/thief - ahhhh so all the concerns seem to boil down to the justice system.
The only advice I have there is consider this isn't the best way to thrive in this game.

    Lag and stuff....no suggestions sorry

Maybe you should sync-up with this player: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/163184/this-game-is-so-frustratingly-easy-and-i-just-cant-take-it-anymore#latest and maybe figure a way to balance each other out.

In the beginning it seems as though gold is far off, but questing constantly will earn you a considerable amount.

And re: the thievery, yeah it's easy to make gold this way if you don't get caught, which is easy too. So many houses un-guarded. So many pockets that can be picked pass/fail with no guards in sight and places to clear you bounty as well.

Don't steal exclusively from the mages and fighters guilds. Start easy and don't take unnecessary risks with the justice system. Once you know the mechanics better, then you can do the trickier things. there is plenty of loot, and ledgermain can easily net 10k+ a day. It's easy money if you don't take unnecessary risks. There is loot everywhere, in every building, and every box.

Go exploring. Find wayshrines if your travel is that tedious. Sell your loot. Harvest crafting mats and /z sell them. Quest. Don't repair your gear, swap it out.

Making money is easy, check out this thread for some good money making tips:
    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/163613/how-can-i-make-money-without-guild-stores

If you're getting caught thieving, you're not doing it right. Either pay more attention to your surroundings, or find better places to be a thief. Also noteworthy, if you put all your gold in the bank, before you start stealing stuff, the guards can't take your banked gold.

That pretty much deals with 1,2,4,5.

If you're dying from lag outside of Cyrodiil, I think it may be on your side. It's true in big pvp fights, the game is plagued by lag but not in pve, that's where it's generally pretty good.

If immediate gratification is what you're seeking, this may not be the game for you.

That's a lot of gold. xD Hopefully they come out with more in-game items for you and others to spend it on. I know coin hordes (I do that in most games) can disrupt the balance when it comes to online games.

xD I'm actually, or was, on my way to level 10. I had to quit for maintenance and I think the free weekend ends at 10am EDT anyway.
So aside from lag, which is caused from a variety of things, your only real gripe is that you are not rich from day one. Seems like no game is really going to satisfy your needs.

Not at all. I really don't mind how much coin I have in-game. I think my gripe is... I want a mount. :P I love mounts, in general and they're a faster way to travel. Perhaps I wouldn't mind if I didn't have to use mouse and keyboard? I have carpal tunnel and am not a person that wants to stop playing a game after 30-60 minutes due to pain in the wrists. I know that's my own fault. xD If anyone uses a gaming controller, is it easier compared to the mouse/keyboard controls?

@Terminus1 What I mentioned in the first post about making money was mostly what I've googled to see what others have done. Right now, I try to pick up everything I can see that isn't considered theft unless that's my intention. I'll have to research alchemy some more and get into it. I'll keep the columbine in mind.

    @NewBlacksmurf Thank you!

@Sacadon Heh. I saw that earlier. I don't really have a problem with the game's difficulty settings. If anything, I was thinking the opposite, but I'm more use to console gaming and not PC gaming. I'm use to having a controller in my hand. XD

@Shunravi Seems everyone is suggesting to adventure, do quests and (secretly) telling me to be patient. lol

@Ley Thank you! The lag may be on my side and it doesn't really happen often until the area I'm in gets really crowded, though this morning before maintenance was kinda bad and it wasn't all that crowded. Dropped the graphics down and still somewhat lagged, but not as much.

I enjoy this game; love it, even, don't get me wrong, and I value everyone's opinion, helpfulness, and comments in general. Keep in mind though; I'm use to console gaming. The two "biggest" PC games I've ever really played fully was/is GW2 and Mabinogi. So yeah... My first Elder Scrolls game was Skyrim, though I loved it a lot and ended up buying Oblivion.

I didn't make this thread to "whine" or "boo-hoo", but was hoping for some good insight into the game itself, coin making, etc and I got that, so thank you! I'm not an "extreme gamer" like some of you probably are so I apologize if my gaming style isn't up to par for you. :P

If you considered imperial just for horse, then just use crown store for a horse. Its cheaper.
I don't sell on traders, but I had the 42k horse at level 26.
Also note that since 1.6 the only difference between the 17k horse and 42k is the skin. So no reason to buy the expensive one.

Prime example of someone who wants everything handed to them. Mr Fernis, this is what we call earning it. You aren't going to get the best mount right away or easy money or the best loot. Put your time in and earn it.
"And it's important to state that our decision to go with subscriptions is not a referendum on online game revenue models. F2P, B2P, etc. are valid, proven business models - but subscription is the one that fits ESO the best, given our commitment to freedom of gameplay, quality and long-term content delivery. Plus, players will appreciate not having to worry about being "monetized" in the middle of playing the game, which is definitely a problem that is cropping up more and more in online gaming these days. The fact that the word "monetized" exists points to the heart of the issue for us: We don't want the player to worry about which parts of the game to pay for - with our system, they get it all."

^^ This made me lol^^ I wish we had that button back :'( But I completely agree. Gold is NOT hard to earn if you just look at how the system is designed and work through that. Also, if you keep getting caught by the guards while stealing.... your fault. It's really not hard to steal from all the chests, all the vendors and rinse/repeat. Also at levels like 1-20 gold isn't even needed for anything outside of a mount perhaps and not having one on your first character for a while isn't the worst thing. It lets you harvest resources that you can sell to guild stores. It also seems like this person just really enjoys solo gaming or instanced gaming with IRL friends vs MMO's.

Money was never a problem since if you're careful, just grab the stuff from instances (inside of house/dungeon/cave) that doesnt have guards and work it there to keep your bounty zero/low.

    Fence them and you're good.

But noooooooooo this morning patched just took the price to 30% its worth on most items easy to snag, and removed some of the containers in the dungeons.

I have the Imperial edition since Beta. My personal opinion is that - just like in Skyrim - if you are on horseback, you are missing a TON of resources as you move by! I run everywhere - just because I farm alchemy plants and Rune stones. I used to do mining and wood gathering too but I have so much of that. BTW, vendor pay pretty well for those supplies ( cloth, skins, wood, ore).

As for burglary - I am a thief. Someday that might matter. I am super stealthy. I can loot almost anything I want from where I want. That being said, I don't bother looting ANYHTING that isn't at LEAST green while I am burglarizing places. This mornings nerf on item value has no effect on me.
  • yoda101280ub17_ESO
Not sure I agree with any of the things you stated here, most of the stuff you talked about just sounds like 'early game' issues. I'm new to ESO myself so I'm in the same boat of needing money and items. Thing is in general there's not a huge need for gold just for leveling. The mount I guess would be the big thing but I got mine from crowns so that wasn't a problem for me but I can see how it could be if you wanted to buy one with gold. But you have to pay for preference, as you said there is one for 17.5k that would serve you just fine, you just don't want that one.

Now the lag part for me is kind of hard to nail down. Generally I don't have any lag when playing this game but I do have "issues" from time to time. ESO doesn't really seem to experience lag in the way other games do, which is usually with frame rate hitches or rubber-banding, things like that. In ESO I get other weird happenings, I'll be unable to use any abilities for a few seconds, mobs will go invisible on me, stuff like that. Which I can only assume is a result of the server and client not communicating properly, essentially lag.

Yeah but that other stuff you mention, not really seeing it, if you're getting captured stealing then become a better thief I don't see how that's the game's fault if you get caught and killed by guards. It's actually overly easy to steal things and not get caught which I'm guessing is why they just reduced the gold you get from a lot of stolen items when you fence them.

Trade guilds are 100% absolutely unnecessary. You can purchase whatever you need in /zone or from guild traders. If you have something worth selling it's pretty easy to sell things, so long as you don't spam stupid things that no one wants. That comes with experience. Don't be afraid to get to know people who will offer you advice, as there's tons of helpful people. Those who are not helpful you can simply henceforth ignore.

Practicing is important. A monkey with a pot on it's head can get to VR 6 without learning anything about how to play this game. When things get tough, adapt. Do not be afraid to change how you operate. And seek advice.

Just loot everything with autoloot and sell everything at every chance. You can upgrade your bags to 80 for cheap and utilize your bank. The only thing you should have in your bag when you leave town is soul gems, food, potions, alt weapons you may be leveling up. If you leave each town with 5/80 filled bags and auto loot everything, you'll be rolling in the gold in no time.
I'm kind of a small deal!

But LAG is a problem - and the reason im on my way out.

In this instance, perhaps the OP gave up a bit prematurely; however, an MMO should NEVER be pushing people away in the early levels/stages.

While I believe using the "I'm poor" excuse at an early level is an absurd reason to give up on an MMO, lag is definitely a legit reason why some are leaving. I know several people that have unfortunately given up on this game for that reason and others -- and that is never a good thing, particularly when they give up early on.

The guard problem is one major issue with this game I have as well. I know one person that was just recently trying out ESO that gave up and left because of the way the guard mechanic works...and he will probably never return due to the bad taste it left in his mouth.

I, myself got frustrated recently and logged off because I was turning around inside the bank and happened to hit a button while the guard was in front me, aggroing him by mistake and he killed me instantly. It's an absolutely stupid mechanic, that needs to be adjusted ASAP...and frankly, I'd like to smack the person upside the head that thought that was a good idea.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the Justice System, but it needs a reworking, particularly in regards to the guard mechanic. There's zero reason why someone should be slaughtered inside the bank simply because they are turning around and running into the guard. It's not only stupid, it's immersion breaking and pisses off the player.

ESO unfortunately has several of these types of issues, that may seem trivial to some, but are deal-breakers for others.

It's unfortunate, as the game is a fantastic game that sadly can turn people off before they've even had a chance to see how great it is!

To me this is a major issue! You never want to turn people away from your business before they've even had the chance to get to know all that it has to offer.
