New treasure chest idea!

Hello to everyone...

I was looting my millionth 'easy lock picking' chest earlier today, and thought how cool it would be to adopt the Undaunted chest idea in the treasure chest mini game!

So, instead of 'intermedidate' and 'master' etc, we could have bronze, silver, gold and platinum chests to plunder! Each chest would look more glorious and shiny than the last, with better loot being acquired the higher grade / more difficult the chest!

I just find looting treasure chests pretty dull and not grandiose enough...'oh well, another green and 25 gold coming my way...'

Instead we could be stumbling onto a mighty platinum chest and procalaiming ' wow! Just found an epic set item and 250 gold!'

Just my golden thought of the day :)

I like that idea. Maybe a chance at some really rare item to make them more desirable.

Thanks! It would be pretty thrilling I'd say :)

I love the idea! I had some pretty complicated posts on how we could have a more robust treasure chest system. Your idea would really enhance the current system and would be pretty quick to implement. +1 from me sir!

This is awesome! Though it might require additional work from ZoS, I think this could be implemented in short order...after console, this is what I want to see.

    +1 from me. Awesome idea.

Thanks for the great feedback! I'm sure there could be away to implement it. Perhaps the rarest chest type you need to acquire a treasure map from a world boss, and the other three chest grades are just randomised throughout the gameworld.

Opening a gold chest would be a lot of fun...maybe even a chance for a gold drop? (But only from an extremely rare platinum graded chest).

Any other ideas - keep em' coming!

I think each chest type should be considerably harder than the one before.

They already do this if you find the harder chests they have a chance to drop set items and more gold and other treats. I would be all for this idea if chests were instanced to you specifically and it was then just a matter of finding them, but other people in the world really don't respect the idea that if someone beats them to the chest they deserve to have it.

Just the other day I saw a player kite a mob to another player trying to open a chest in order to steal it from them, treasure chests are currently only good to go after for the soul gems and the experience.

There are also passives in the Champion system that net you more gold and late better loot from chests so I wouldn't expect this to happen.

It would be fun if treasure chests provided more varietee...

I always thought it a bit boring that all locks are the same as well, only with more or less time to pick them, wish they had made a variable number of tumblers instead (say, three for simple locks, five for average, seven for hard locks...), with an incleasing "strain" on the lockpicks, causing them to have a much greater chance of breaking on the hard locks (right now that seems dependend on something else, for me they seem a lot more liekly to break on simple locks then on master locks... but maybe that's just because one finds more simple locked chests then masterlocked chests), with better ranks of lockpicks available to buy at your local thieves guild representative (once they show up) that decrease he breakage chance again (you should have to be really lucky to make it through a master lock with common iron lockpicks)...

And then there could be some "trapped" locks like in some other RPG settings I can think of, where not succeeding in picking the lock in time doesn't just lead to a little bit of waiting before you go for another attempt, but carries some penalty (poison needle trap for some DoT, magic rune trap for some damage and knockback, whatever...) Some chests may even have a trap that goes off no matter how well you did on the picking (I can easily imagine some "guardian ghost" attacking people who open their chest...)

And of course, I would really like to see a different minigame for "dispelling magical wards", and then have this in the game too, chests and doors sealed by magic that needs to be dealt with... possibly even both on the top tier of treasure chests... so you'd have to do both minigames in succession to open the thing for the big reward...

    Great reads here many thanks!

Just to clarify: The main pretext here is about the chest visuals and contents based on the chest difficulty.

I think the chests are rather bland looking in comparison to their Undaunted chest counterparts.

The image in my minds eye is of locating a golden chest under a bridge - and the thrill of knowing the contents are going to fun to obtain once it's has opened.

It is rather anti- climatic in its current incarnation - I hope a dev gets to read this :)

what are you guys talking about? Chests don't looking good enogh? Seriously?

Someone stored his belongings in the chest you are looting there. Why should the person stored his goods in it upgrade to a shinier version of a chest when storing something worthy in it? I really do not like the idea.
If you want to make it more exiting, just vary the loot.
Now: one green item + gold
Then: white trash item + 5g OR two green items + 50g
    Like that.

What i find way more important, to make the opening more difficult. I played like 250 hours now and broke about 10 lockpicks, 8 of them on the first day ;)
Don't remember needing a second attempt.

I think you're missing the point here entirely.

These chests could be placed mystically througout the land, not by 'some person' :)

I'm am merely seeking more chest variety, how can that be viewed negatively?

Speaking of realism may be to much, but at least lets bring in the term "lorefriendly".
Mystically placed chests? By Daedra or what?
Personally i like fantasy settings which are more close to medieval than to Sailermoon. Golden chests under a bridge remind me more of pink unicorns than they fit to the Elder Scrolls.
I didn't miss your point, i just don't like it.

Concering the content of those chests; yes, there could be even more variety as i wrote in my first post. Maybe there could be added crafting materials or something. I strongly disagree that there should be epics in it, which may lead to farmers, which spend their day camping the spawnspotss of those chests.

I wrote some feedback to ESO regarding chests but as usual I imagine it just drops down into the forgotten waters of some remote well.

I can find 20+ chests in a day, all of them contain about the same thing. I'd rather find 1 or 2 chests a week, hell a month even that has a chance to yield rare and interesting loot rather than these lame excuses for treasures. Who would ever hide 30g and some ironhide bracers in a chest that looks like it's worth at least 10,000 ingame gold? It doesn't make any sense.

    Very true indeed, I agree.

Chest's in there current iteration have absolutely no excitement whatsoever...I hope our textual voices are heard!
