Does Large Scale PVE Endgame have a future?

    I don't endgame
@Fissh what in your world is large scale PVE?

To me it was 40-man raids in WOW, not the largest in MMOs I believe but larger than I've seen in any game since.

The answer to that is NO.

20-man (or some near number), it will still exist but like raiding in general it's a minority pass-time and in games that offer two sizes of raids (10 or 20, 12 or 24) the majority of raiders usually prefer the smaller option.

I raided in WOW in BC and LK, in LoTRO in SoA, MoM and SoM, and in Rift until NT, never bleeding edge but purely in guild for fun.

I loathe PUGs and would rather have teeth pulled without an injection rather than have to PUG to progress: hence in ESO my highest character is VR10, since ZOS perverted the concept of 'guilds' as a pitifully inadequate alternative to an economy which everyone can participate in, guilds are no better than PUGs in my very limited experience.

Not sure why you have two cents to put in on this. 1 year and you haven't been in endgame. You appear to participate more in forums than in game. Your opinion might have weight if you had been in endgame in THIS game. You shouldn't participate in endgame threads is you don't, in fact, have any value for it.

Yes, but i truly hope the trials will soon drop some gear that is better than martial knowledge, maybe even some monster helmets and shoulders.

At the moment i dont see the point to do AA, Hel Ra only for the hardmode challenge and SO is not available to me, because i have no friends/guild that can get past the first boss

    Time will tell i guess
Beesting, Bosmer Magica DK, AD EU, crafter
Slager, Dunmer Magica DK, DC EU, pvp
Farmer, Dunmer Magica DK, AD EU, trials build

Every major patch looks like the end of the world but somehow i just cannot stop playing.

Based on my experience in other MMO´s, no. While a few guilds run raids or like at ESO trials almost daily, the majority of the players doesn't.

Not saying that this premade content must be gone completely, but a bright future it most likely wont have. Even around 2006 when raiding was at its peek in MMOs, only about 15-20% did it. Today the numbers are even smaller, so that it is understandable if MMO´s no longer put their focus on it.

You need to think about one thing for a second, why develop content for such a minority of your players, if the majority is much easier to please with just a few new zones to quest in, a housing system or cosmetics? Lets face it, its not the hardcores that keep MMO´s alive, its the Casuals so supporting them and their needs seems much more plausible.

Personally I hope ZOS learned its lesson with Craglorn, it was such a waste of ressources and I am sure many players would not have left if housing, spell weaving or world pvp would had been introduced instead.

    Excellent summary as always.

Plus it's a relatively new term that always sounded apocryphal to me.

The idea that PvE has to mean a scripted dance with proximity triggered AI monsters arranged like an amusement park house of horrors ride, allowing a limited number people through at once, is also fairly new.

Oh it was a great idea and a nifty innovation.

At the time other innovations were being discussed too such as procedural scaling based on a much wider range of participating players, not just the level of players tied to a fixed number.

Procedural in this case means a spawned encounter that's never the same twice because it also has a sniffer for gear, history and tracked strengths and weaknesses of each party member when the group forms and accepts the challenge.

People are still playing with that idea, though it has driven a few to near madness. The gating factor in creating content still remains the the need to handcraft it.

I think the game needs to be careful to construct endgame that allows different group sizes
Min of 4 and max of 25

Some 24-25 man content would great!

I hope yes. It's sad beeing part of a 500 guild members and have only 3 12+ members encounters (trials). This aspect of pve is lacking much.

This is the main reason I don't join a PvE guild (second reason is there's not enough slots). There's just no reason to go through all the trouble of doing end game.

The potential alone is worth waiting to see, but since we have not even been given a glimpse of the future of end game content I'm not sure what to do with my in game time. I guess I can thank them for now as my RL reponsabilitys have been getting taken care of before I bother to log on.
