8 gigs of ram is plenty for this game. Both are sufficient to play this game at decent settings. I'd go for the cheaper one, unless you do some heavy media work.

Cant get to the page, too lazy to look up canadian postal codes.

If the only difference is ram, then get the one with more ram. But the first priority should be video card, since 8 gigs of ram is plenty to play this game, so if the 8 gig laptop has a better video card, get that one.
As a casual player I was satisfied that at one point I had a char max level and near max crafting with almost all motifs and I pretty much lost interest. Then ESO discovered DLC's and now my main is just a wanabe and I am happily pulled back into the game.

I just recently ordered a new gaming laptop from staples.ca as well hehe.

The more expensive laptop has GDDR5 video memory which is attractive to me, personally. But I'm not an expert on these things and I needed help from more knowledgeable friends to help me decipher some of these specs.

What a crap website. I tried to look up any postal code in Canada to put into the dang page and those seem to be under the protection of the secret postal service. So, finally found one to use after looking in about 10 websites, what a crock. Done ranting on Canadian Businesses and Staples in particular....

Get the one with the larger screen, sure it's $200 more, but you will be much happier.

Unless of course you have an extra monitor sitting around that you can connect to the laptop, then get the cheaper one.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

The extra monitor idea up there^ is a good one. I had to play on an older laptop for awhile and found when I used an external monitor instead of the laptop one, I had no issue with overheating on the laptop while playing.

Get the one with the best video card. That's really the only thing you won't be able to replace at a later time. You can add more RAM, maybe even a new CPU or larger SSD or add in a SSD if it doesn't have one. Often Video Cards aren't replaceable within a laptop and down the road you will regret not getting the best one you could at the time.

I still have an Asus Laptop I bought in 2010 with an I7 CPU, 16GB Ram and dropped a SSD in it. The performance increased a lot but I still wish I could get a more current video card for it.

In looking at the Product Specs below your better off spending the Extra money for the upgrades. More than likely the 860M on the cheaper one is only a 1GB memory video card. With double the RAM, Hard drive space and possibly video card memory the more expensive one is a much better deal in the long run. It will cost a lot more than $200 to double those things in the future.

Plus for gaming, your going to want a larger screen also.

It sometimes makes me wonder why some smaller towns obviously don't belong to CA anymore, at least the shop doesn't accept them :D GL trying to get your goods to Whistler, maybe they will come with the bear postal office :'(

    Anyways,

connect the laptop to your TV screen, works like a charm here when on the road.

What you should pick I can´t decide, but a few key points that might help your decision.

    G551 vs G750

    CPU: 551+

The better CPU does have the 551, its not much though. The 4710 is only a tiny bit faster than the 4700. We are talking of less than 5%.

    GPU: 551+

The 551 has an integrated + dedicated card. So if you work with the laptop or just browse the net, then you can switch to the integrated one and save power + heat. Both have the same dedicated one, so this is a small + for the 551.

    RAM: G750+

The G750 will allow more upgrades as you can install up to 32gig of ram (4x8). 551 only allows 16 (2x8). Unless you work with your Laptop (video coding, sound design), 16 are more than enough for todays standards.

Screen: G750+ for home us / 551+ for travels

Its a non glare display so that you will have a better quality in very bright light, besides that its bigger. Keep in mind however, if you travel with your laptop, less is more.

    Storage: -

The G750 has 1,5TB with a 5400RPM, the 551 can ship with a 7200 or 5400 RPM and 750GB. Sadly I don't know which version your shop in Canada has, you should ask them. For gaming a 7200 RPM is much better and advised. You could also ask for an optional SSD, both laptops can be equipped with a 250GB one.

    Card slots: 551+

The 551 has more goodies to offer, like more card slots. The 750 only offers SD and MMC

    Sounds & Audio & Interface: G750+

The G750 has an integrated subwoofer, the 551 doesn't. Both offer mic and headphone, but with different connectors. Make sure to check what you need, SPDIF etc.
While the G551 has 3 USB ports, the 750 has one more. The 750 has a VGA port, if you want to plug in an external monitor device.

    Power & Battery: G750+

The 551 only offers about 56 Work hours, which equals about 2-3 hours of gaming, while the 750 has 89 - about 4-5 hours of gaming, but it also needs more power (60W) more.

Cross check the facts though with the shop, you never know if they have changed any components from the ASUS stock system. Like the 4700 should also ship with a 2600 Intel HD (integrated GPU), but its not stated so in the description at ASUS. Not sure if they just forgot it or why its missing, in general it should be there.

Personally, If I would be asked I would go for the 551. The HDD is faster, you have a second GPU option, its smaller which is always good for traveling and the CPU is a bit newer & faster / less hungry. The 750 only makes sense if you work with the PC in regards of graphic design, movie cutting or similar. But then you must get an additional SSD for sure, 5400 RPM is just not sufficient.

I want to point out that I only cross checked both Laptops, if and how each individual one will perform in gaming I cant judge. More research would be needed there. ;)

Both will play the game well. It comes down to how much money do you have and are you willing to spend it on the bigger screen and uppped stats of the better one. None of us can answer that for you.

Did someone really just call an ROG laptop a budget grade laptop?
    lulz

Go with the cheaper one and you will still get to play on max graphics settings.
(This is coming from a guy that runs on Ultra w/ an i5 3570k, GTX 570 Ti OC, and 12GB of RAM.)

As mentioned above, use an external monitor to keep the heat down and longevity up.

Also, why a laptop for gaming?

For OP and @cyqa , top link, no questions asked.

Bigger screen, more memory, and bigger HD.

Rarely let Hard Drive space be the determination, as you can often buy them aftermarket and install for less than the cost difference. (This comes with ability to clone the old drive, as well.)

One thing I will recommend is spend some $ on a good laptop cooler. Cooler Master makes some good, inexpensive ones that sit on your lap (cushion is good for long sessions), often have tilt adjustment, multiple fans, and sometimes even a USB bug built in.

Also, since both models are at Staples, if they are sold in store, go check them out - see how they feel. A mean laptop that can tear a game up won't do you any good if you don't like the keyboard, the touchpad, or some other design issue.

    Good luck!

I will never get a desktop because I move around a lot, probably will use the laptop for school, and I like sitting in different positions. Not to bit of a fan of desktops. Thanks for the tips though.
So it looks like I will probably get the cheaper one, as I'm kinda on a tight budget if the $200 won't mean the difference between 30 and 60 fps. I'll probably take advice from the guy above me and go to staples and see how they feel.
    Thanks everyone!

For what it's worth, when I started playing ESO it was on an ASUS RoG laptop that I bought in 2011 for around $1300. Couldn't tell you the specs because I don't have that machine any longer, but I had no issues with it.

I replaced it last winter with a higher end RoG laptop only because a) I could afford it, and b) my Mom needed a new computer (she now has my old one and loves it). If it hadn't been for those two factors, I'd still be playing on my 4 year old laptop.

    ASUS makes good gaming laptops.

Just to throw this out there. You can build a desktop that is highly mobile too. I mean of course you won't be taking it to school with you or something, but you can easily move it from home, dorm, parents, friends on a somewhat daily basis with little trouble.

The only reason I bring this up, is I just built my sister-in-law a gaming machine that would destroy that same laptop and the kicker... the whole thing monitor/tower/keyboard/mouse only cost 600 total. The key here is to build a micro tower. They are small and easy to port around and as long as you make sure the case you pick is setup to hold a good gpu you are set.

Now for my next point, if you do need a laptop for school still you can run and pickup a cheap 3-400 buck i3 or a10 powered laptop that will easily handle all the work school can throw at it, with the added benefit of being able to still play eso on medium to low settings.

*Edit* Just a little more info.. laptops in general are not very good bang for buck for gaming.

and example being the gpu's are extremely limited and weaker versions of their full desktop counterparts. A 660ti which can be found for less than 150 these days. Pull anywhere from 2x-3x the performance of a 860m..

Better passmark score 4,119 vs 1,633 More than 2.5x better passmark score

Slightly better floating-point performance 1,882 GFLOPS vs 1,306 GFLOPS Around 45% better floating-point performance

Thanks @Merlin13KAGL ! I will definitely pick up a better laptop cooler. I have a fairly ineffective one at the moment.

And @Tgrable that is awesome advice, I didn't know one could build a desktop that small. I'm a pilot so unfortunately even a microtower would be awkward for me - laptops are nice and compact and can be stored in my flight bag.

And to the OP- I agree with everyone that ASUS make great gaming laptops! My current one is a ROG G46 and it has served me well. (This time around I'm trying a different brand)
