I'm really eager to play the console beta. That being said, I would hate to spend roughly a month progressing a character (while testing the game), only to have to do it all over again once the game goes live.
No, not really, since they deleted the character progress of beta players for the PC version. Some of which had been playing for over a year in closed beta. The point of beta is not to get a head start, but to make sure the game is running as smoothly as possible for launch.
I mean, I myself am taking part in the PC transfer/copy and will have a Vet 3 character upon activation. What's the harm in letting us keep a character we may have worked on for a month?

@Bookwyrm True, the point of beta is not to get a head start. However, considering there will be plenty of PC transfers who will have a year head start, what harm is there in allowing us to maintain our character's progress?

Everyone had a chance to purchase the PC version and play for a year. Certainly, it may not have been feasible for some, but it was out there. And yes, they have a head start, but they have paid for it every step of the way through subscription and, I believe in this case, buying the game again (though at a reduced price? I can't remember, I'm not transferring). And while a lot of people like to claim that this whole year has just been a "paid beta" the fact is the game was launched and we've been playing (and paying for) it ever since. Those of us who played through betas prior to launch did not get to keep our characters, and plenty of them had maxed them out (some people many times over). That's just the way beta goes.
If they do, fine, it's none of my concern, but do I think they should? No, because it seems disingenuous to PC players, and we've had enough of that over the past few months.
The thing is, console Gamers are not as forgiving as PC gamers. This is why the game was not launched last year. PC gamers are known for being duped in to paying for half finished products and to give their money to the company while they finish it up for the premium audience. PS4 FFXIV Beta, you got to keep your character. Most Console "betas" allowed you to keep your characters. It is only the PC realm where Games are able to pull what they do. Because PC gamers allow it.
Guess you will know on release day though right?
@Bookwyrm Okay, well if I'm already transferring over a vet 3 character, how is me keep my console beta player any more disingenuous towards other players? There is literally no harm in this. Zero, nada, zilch. I don't really care either way ultimately, but it's something I would definitely prefer rather than not have.

@NewBlacksmurf What's the difference between caring over your beta progress, versus what you were able to accomplish on the PC game? It kind of seems as though you're just arbitrarily against the idea for no particular reason...
