Noob question

I joined the war for the first time today. It was pretty cool until I got into an actual battle and witnessed the zerg in action.

So I was wondering: what's stopping players from forcing the zerg to split up by attacking multiple other points at a time?

    Nothing.
But it does take a bit of effort to flag a keep and if it is a small group it can get easily whipped if discovered.
It can also be a long ride back.
One man can flag a keep if they are sneaky.

So, you're telling me the players are just stupid, then. How could I expect anything else?
A guild could easily dispatch 2 groups away from the main battle, and take over 2 keeps while the zerg takes 1.

    Yes.

Well, there are different reasons why people fight in PvP.
There are quite many that want to get as many alliance points as possible and to archieve that they need to kill enemies and not take undefended castles.

A lot of the time big groups or organized guilds will ask loners in zone or the casuals or anyone for that matter to check out the undefended keeps.
People ask in zone to check the health of the walls, repair them if they are low, or look for small groups trying to cut off and flag or prepare walls to 51% for full attack.
Many experienced PvP players can assume what keeps may be the next target or which could be a strategic point to take to help defence of another by distracting and cutting reinforcements.
Sometimes it's not the taking of the keep that matters.
So although trying to distract the main force a valid strategy, a lot of the times this is expected and can be countered or nullified easily unless taken seriously by the team trying to do it.

It's not like people haven't figured out the "Split up" technique. And it can work effectively.

But it also exposes a weakness...numbers. If your opponent is able to respond to the diversion with greater numbers they can quickly eliminate the group taking keep 1 while your second group is taking keep 2. And there is often enough time to hop on your horse and arrive at keep 2, again with superior numbers, and save that keep also.

If there was no Transitus at all, then splitting up would be a more effective technique as you could set up 2 attacks on opposite sides of the map. But that is not how the maps are set up. There is almost always a way to get within 1 keep away from an attacked keep.

That gives me a great idea, if I can ever coordinate enough players for it.

    If anything, lag helps tactics.
Not only will you have achieved something before the enemy knows what's happening, you'll get it done before YOU know what's happening
