Is there any reason to research traits on alts if main has them?

For example my templar will soon have every light and heavy armor trait. Is there any reason to research these same traits while leveling an alt? I'd still level blacksmithing and clothier on the alt, for the hireling bonuses, what as far as traits go, can't one character craft anything for another character?

Are there any signs of future crafted items which can only be used by the character that created them?
End the tedious inventory management game.

I say no.... not unless you don't like your main and you want to erase it. It takes a heck of a long time to learn all the traits.
Far too many characters to list any more.

I did this, and glad I did. Not enough skill points for *every* thing plus crafting. Just be prepared for half a year of being between crafters.

I use one character for all craft skills. Got all crafts to lvl 50 plus I'm nearly done researching all traits. The only reason do any crafts ( other than provisioning and maybe alchemy) on another is for the hirings.

Traits are not account wide so as you have found your alts will not be able to craft items with traits unless they research them themselves.

As to whether it's worth the effort...

I went the direction of having my main do all crafting except enchanting, my 2nd character does enchanting but nothing else and my other alts nothing. Seemed less stressful at the time. My wife on the other hand suffers from OCD (obsessive completionist disorder) and levels every character in everything.

Now I find that when she is running around between quests leveling crafting, I'm standing around waiting for her. Meanwhile she is gaining xp that I am not. If she wants to craft or improve something, she can just do it. Me, I have to log off and log in 1 or more characters.

So less stressful now, more stressful later. If you like crafting and researching, then doing so on all characters is more of what you like, if you don't, then just be prepared to swap characters on the few occasions when you need something.

And like Nebthet78 said, if you ever delete that main, you will have no character capable of crafting traits until one researches them all over again.

This trait researching is charcater bound theory makes no sense, ZOS needs to keep it account wide like CP system, when one charcater's earned CP is going to another character then why not researched traits

I have started to do it, both for convince and more to free up some skill points on my main, even though she has 291 skill points :)

Completing research of a trait gives experience in that crafting field. While not necessary, often times, it doesn't hurt to have your non-boosted crafters researching to gain a bit of crafting inspiration and trim away at the traits just in case. You don't need skill points in a crafting skill to level it to 50. Just decon and research a lot.

Most of my characters just deoncstruct most of what they get, research here and there, and I have a few that I concentrate on learning a particualar craft and traits.

Long term, the more any character knows, the more versatile they are, and traits don't take up skill points to aquire, so that's nice.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

This game has only account-level binding. There is no signs of bound-to-character gear. There is some stuff you can't store in bank. E.g. trasure maps from imperial edition stay on character who takes them from mail. So they are effectively bound to character.

The downside of having everything on one toon is that while doable, the build is inflexible. You can have one good build in one role. Changes need often full skillpoint respec. In the end fully learned crafter is more valuable than a fighter toon.

Some professions are easier to stay on alt. Excluding hirelings, alchemists and provisoners just need occasionally make stuff into bank. Gear crafting and glyphs are needed all the time.

I just decided to make my Woodworker/Clothier a Blacksmither. Only I have no skill points to spare, yet. Anyway, about 2/3 weeks ago I started her on research. She will have the 6th trait known on all the armor pieces and the two weapons I use all the time this afternoon. So, I can make any set of gear in metal that I need to (if she had the skill points in Blacksmithing).

So, it takes a surprisingly short time to bring a crafter up to speed with regards to traits (because there is no reason to learn more than 6 traits really). I will start filling in the other weapons this afternoon. Once the weapons are done, then I will start on the 7th and 8th traits in everything.

I will say that is super easy to learn traits if you have a crafter that can whip up a researchable as opposed to trying to find the specific one you want or carry a bunch around waiting for an empty research slot.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

my VR9 DK is my crafter but he is also maxed at, well, all professions.
BS, WW, Cloth, Alchemy, Enchanting, Provisioning - all at 50.
Plus he's a completely viable Tank.

since there are benefits to knowing multiple max skills on one character (otherwise you'd have to drag your WW toon to the hidden crafting station, then drag your Cloth toon to the hidden crafting station, then drag your BS toon to the hidden crafting station), I decided to make a single uber crafting toon.
He has collected all of the shards in 2 of the 3 factions, and half of the last one, plus all in cyrodiil, as well as doing the main story quest line and getting the skill points in there.

It's not hard to do, really.

if i my main is on a timer, i will shift research to my alts so i don't have to worry about getting the item again, and i dont have to hold on to an item until my research timer is up. it also gives that alt access to the crafted armor areas without having to log on to my main to make gear with set bonuses.
I will work. I will save. I will sacrifice. I will endure. I will fight cheerfully and do my utmost, as if the whole issue of the struggle depended on me alone.
