Can't launch game

So I decided I'd give ESO another try as I haven't played it in a while.

Turns out, ESO had other ideas. After numerous attempts at trying to get the game to update (unknown file errors galore during download/installation) plus a complete reinstall of the game, I can't get it to load. I get a black screen with the following crash message and then it dumps me back to the desktop:

====================================================================
eso encountered a fatal error. (Error 6)
Description: Client Fatal Error

I've been trying for three days to get this working. Might have to try and get a refund on my three month sub seeing as I can't actually get into the game.

Anyone got any ideas please? Customer support gave me generic response number 32- add an exception to the anti-virus and check these ports are open in the firewall. Did that- no dice. Now waiting for generic response 57 so thought I'd see if anyone else had any suggestions on what to try next.

Thanks in advance!

    Did you run repair?

When it is launching try to put it windowed mode by holding the alt key and hitting enter

Also go into the usersettings.txt file and change D3D11 to D3D9

Yes I had to run repair several times during patching/downloading/installing because I was constantly getting 'unkown file error' errors.
I can't launch it in windowed mode- it crashes too quickly for alt + enter to have any effect.
I have changed the entry in usersettings.txt file from D3D11 to D3D9 but this had no effect. Still crashing! :(

Are you running the launcher as administrator?

If you are not running an SSD drive you might want to defrag.. just a thought

Sounds like it may not have installed incorrectly - is your java and .net updated?

Might try repairing the .net isntallation as well

I renamed the elder scrolls online folder in my documents so it had .old after it. A new one was generated when I tried to launch the game, but it still crashed out.

I'm logged in as an admin when I run the launcher, I haven't tried right clicking the launcher icon and running as admin though. I'll give that a go.

Java and .net are both up to date. I'll try repairing the .net installation. This is the only game/program I have problems with though.

Ok. So after lots of frigging about with it, trying this thing and that... I finally got it work!

In the end the only thing that worked was uninstalling (again), deleting folders from documents and C:\program files (again) then downloading and reinstalling to a different drive (a different location on the C: drive might have worked as well but I had way more space available on the 2nd drive anyway).

    It now runs fine!

Thank you both for all your help and suggestions!

Sounds like it may have been installed on a bad space on the HDD. had that happen to me and the game , WOW, would core dump on me. Once i reinstalled to a different drive it worked fine. That was when I played WOW about three years ago :)
