Leveling together - question

Hello there, i'm new here so hello to every one.

Some time ago I have bought eso for me and for my brother and we started to play together, it was fun. But then I had to go to work, he had his job and we kinda separated in levels. I went a bit ahead of him so when we had time to play together I wanted to do his quests, events or whatever you call it with him. But then I discovered that im in different stage of an event so I couldn't do it with him. To be more specific there were ruins with ghosts and you have to go underground and fight evil guy, after you do that sprirts disappear. So when I got there second time with my bro and he started the quest I just couldn't do it with him.
It's sad because that was the sign I need to wait for him to the moment we can do events of the same stage together.

Maybe I don't know something but I couldn't overcome that. From my experience some games offers downscalling of level. What if he could invite me to a party, start the event and I could go with him do his quest just having fun, the game could downscale me for that purpose - it would be the uber fun for me and him.

As I said I'm knew and maybe game offers a mechanics of that sort and I just dont know it yet. If so please tell me.

Because of whole this game feels very singleplayer oriented while leveling a toon. I don't have anything against that, but it would be nice to be able to participate in my brother's lower level character quests so we can have fun together as we always have in mmos.

They did change MANY quests to stop phasing, although sometimes it will still happen. Phasing is how a town can be full of bad guys, and after you defeat them the town is now friendly. Definitely give it a try, you should run into it less.

@MissBizz So how exactly do that work? Let's say at first stage I need to defeat bad guys in this said town and I have done it so the town is friendly to me. Now I'm going in with my brother and he starts his quest. Do these bad guys suddenly turn unfriendly to me?

Er, I have experienced it both ways.. Not sure if it just changed over time or something, I used to notice if someone was fighting a ghost that was now neutral towards me, they would become hostile once attacked by another person.. But we went fishing the other night and were in a phased town that was neutral for me, and when someone started fighting them (they were hostile to the person who attacked and had not done the quest) the enemies stayed neutral towards me... I didn't not engage the enemy tho, maybe they would have become hostile had I attacked. As I mentioned though, they changed a LOT of quests so you should not run into that issue very much.

There are different ways the game handles this and sometimes you can group with someone who's done the quest and sometimes you can't.

If it's a case where the "bad guys" turn neutral, then you are good, because you can still be in the same phase as your brother. However, if the bad guys disappear after you have completed the quest, then you will be invisible to each other.

This used to happen a lot more and I know ZOS has made some changes to a number of quests so that people who have done the quest can still help someone who hasn't.

What I did when leveling alts with my friends was that we would try to do the "Main" quest line of each zone together, and do the side-quest hubs at our own leisure.

And then we'd go and do dungeons and wold bosses and skyshards because there is no phasing on those and they can all be repeated.

OK, thank you for the answer. I need to do some more testing then.

BTW: cases when mobs turn neutral are small deal, it's no problem as you clearly can attack neutral creatures. I'm worried about cases when final phase of the event results in more drastic change of the environment - like mentioned before spirits, they disappear - I can not attack something I can not target.

One of two things will happen. Either you will see formerly hostile mobs as friendly, meaning a yellow glow. You can attack them or not. If your grouped with your friend, then they may aggro on you if he attacks them. Or, you will just see your friend doing things and not see who or what they are interacting with.

Phasing has come a long way, but it still gets in the way of sharing some quests that others have completed or started. Basically, the rule of thumb is, if you have to go into an interior cell (or a exterior that loads from another cell) you may get separated. Not always, but often enough.

you wont even see your brother if you not on the same stage, like say in deshan, if you rescued the city moundhold, and you try to go in with him, you would become invisible to each other.

Oh, now that we are discussing this... when you attack a neutral-to-you enemy alongside your brother... is it considered murder?

I have not gotten dinged for this. I use Docile mobs for farming all the time. It's easier to set up pulls.

If they have a yellow aura, I don't think so.

It's only considered murder if they have the white aura.

@MissBizz It's fine when neutral enemies are involved, like bandits, ghosts (not npcs in town). I meant the final phase of event when there is nobody to attack, but guys up there just cleared it out for me, thx again for clarification.
