Other MMO games comparison

I tried finding a thread about this. I read about it a few days ago but I couldn't find it so I'm going to post this one.

With all the hate I am reading about the game I have to ask why are you staying?

I personally love the game even though I am frustrated with a few things. Im staying for the people. I love my guild. They are awesome. I love how flexible I can be with how I want to play. I can use my daggers up close and quickly switch to my bow with almost no trouble. I really like the PVP too.

I know many are very unhappy with the lag and the many other issues with Cyrodiil but I don't have most of these issues.

So The real thing here is how would you guys change it? What MMO's do you prefer for what features you want?

I loved the housing of Everquest, the ability to make your own beds, boxes, and buy pets that walk around are great.

I used to play a game called Nexus TK (here is a link so you know what I am talking about to some degree http://www.nexusatlas.com/)

In that game the world is so large that there is no way that you can have ever seen anything. There is multiple servers all connected to each other were you can just go from one kingdom to another. (also the cash shop is so awesome.) I would have TESO be as large and mysterious as that of NexusTK There is also Class quests were you earch achievements based on what class you are and get special names as your rank.. This will take some explaining but its something ESO could really do.

In Nex you reach lvl 99.. then once you do you change your xp you earn into stats. 1 mil xp turns into 300 stamina or whatever.. after you reach 300 life points and 100k mana you then become a new rank. Call it Veteran.. so now you are a Veteran instead of lvl 99. At 500k life and 300k mana you are then a Titan. At 750k life and 500k mana you become some other cool name..

My point here is get rid of the veteran system we have and give each new level/rank/whatever a name. Call those are Rank vet 14 a Conqueror. The next rank should be High Lord or something..

These two things are how Id change things.

    - Housing from any game with housing. I'm serious. At this point, it doesn't have to be UO or SWG (best housing systems I have had the pleasure of experiencing). It could be EQ2 or GTA for all I care. Just as long as it has housing.

    - I generally hate WoW. But one thing it showed was that phasing works in maintaining immersion and story for a player in a world with millions of others. ESO has somehow taken phasing, and broken it. Players should be able to group together at any time, for any quest, WITH EASE. No matter the level or what part of the phase you are in.

    - Destiny has shown me that, especially in the console market, two and three player teams, or six-man groups, can and are superior to 24 players any day of the week. Never have I had as much fun raiding and dungeoning as I did when I realized that I didn't need to fill a spot with a random fourth man, or try to group with some try-hard bums to max out that 12 or 24-man event.

    - Drop in, drop out functionality is the name of the game today. As a father, husband and working professional adult, I quite literally don't have time to dedicate more than a few hours at a time, maybe once a week or so. Most nights its 30 minutes to an hour. I have to get my gaming in, and hopefully accomplish more than simply looking at how good my character is on the loading screen. This is why PvP and PvE, high end and low end, should be available with ease from a simple menu. Queues' help, looking for group does not.
Ruze Aulus. Mayor of Dhalmora. Archer, hunter, assassin. Nightblade.
Gral. Mountain Terror. Barbarian, marauder, murderer. Nightblade.
Na'Djin. Knight-Blade. Knight, vanguard, defender. Nightblade.

    XBOX NA
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

I really don't think there is that much hate. I know it seems that way sometimes when you read these forums, or any game forum for that matter. But keep in mind that this is where people come when they are unhappy or concerned about things that effect the game they like and care about. If people didn't like the game or care about the game, they wouldn't be posting here.

With a few exceptions of course. You will see a "I'm done" post every once in a while before it gets shut down, but for the most part the people on this forum are here because they like the game so much that they feel compelled to speak up about particular aspects of it. They are passionate about something they care about.

ESO is a good game. People like it and want it to be better.

This forum is incredibly active. Believe it or not, that is a good sign even though the majority of activity is grumbling.

it's when you stop seeing grumbling... or any activity at all... that it's time to pack up the kids and head west.

I actually like the game for the most part, although it is (due to the veteran system and faction system) a very anti-alt game. However, as a former developer and code-junkie, I am appalled at some of the very stupid design decisions made by this development team, despise the unprincipled nature of their marketing, and can't fathom the reasons behind the poor in-house testing and QA.

I believe most people playing the game similarly like it, but have similar misgivings about ZOS itself. If you read between the lines, that is where the "hate" is directed.

Beyond that, every game -- especially those with PvP -- has its groups of people asking for nerfs to everyone else's abilities; every game has it's detractors for various game mechanics such as the idiotic guild trading system; every game with PvP has its arrogant elitists arguing with the entitled carebears; every game has people looking for an advantage for themselves at everyone else's expense... that's called humanity. Humans rationalize what they're doing rather than acknowledge that they're being selfish, self-serving jerks; there's always an excuse.

That's why this planet will be inherited by the bugs; cockroaches, specifically; they have much higher values and they're better MMBORPG players than we are (Massively Multi-Bug Online Role Playing Game).

Now that Ive been thinking about it I really do want that title system I suggested earlier.. it was a passing thought then but now.. It really does make sense.

At level 50 we should be Veteran. Veteran levels just seamed silly to me at the very beginning.

We should just level our stats at that point and not our Levels.

small things like auto targeting in combat (its optional) and I'm lazy and I like it

Why am I here and not there? Because I played it through till mounted combat and wanted a change. I'm not adverse to going back despite lockboxes ;)

Other mmo's were too cartoony/spacy/meh for me.

I wouldn't mind a barbershop, I'm sure we will have one eventually.

I am not a fan of our current guild kiosk system and I do understand the whole anti AH group.

    Id suggest a market place.

Another throwback from the game I played before Nexustk.

There was a in game forum for people who were selling items. in this forum (not just for selling things by the way) we could post blah blah for sale and then meet up in game at the market place.

Id suggest having a physically place in the world some place.. maybe Coldharbor maybe in faction capitals were we all meet that is linked to the other market places in the other cities. These places would have their own chat and we could have stalls.

We could sell form our own Kiosk if we were actually there in game. Imagine zone chat actually about the zone. Having a market place and the guild Kiosks together would be a fantastic way to run things.

Also in game forums would be awesome.. Posting groups, player run events, poetry contests, story contests, this would be amazing for our community.

Oh I forgot a big one, in LOTRO say I'm level 50 and go back to a lvl 10 map, the game/mobs know I'm level 50 and don't even bother with me unless I attack them. So you are pretty much free to roam and explore....WHY is this not in ESO of all games?!?

    Me personally,

I feel like this game tried to 1 up GW2.
    - Thing is GW2 WvW (Alliance vs Alliance) is WAY WAY WAYYYYYY better. That's because its actually competitive... TESO WvW is uncompetitive at all, just a 30 day and do it all over again... There is no TIERS like in GW2. Also, GW2 WvW population is a LOT bigger for a reason. Also, the actual fighting its zerg vs zerg yes but it does require skills. Also, more maps and as a newb you can still contribute... This game I find it hard to contribute besides healing. Also you can SEE your enemies easier, this game I'm like.... whose the enemy and whose my friend??? I know there might be mods, but just because they gave allows people to make mods doesn't mean the actual game developers themselves should ignore the issue. The only good thing I like is the sneak system and how you can ambush people and such, that's all I really like about this game. Since GW2 was the 1st to do WvW, it's going to be hard to knock it down and become better because the first thing people do is normally what they refer to as the norm, and TESO pretty much doing exactly what GW2 does except its adding scrolls for a little capture the flag.
    - GW2 has a living story, this game I'm actually listening and taking my time... But the lore just bad, (outside main quest) feel like a waste of time but I'm trucking through it anyways. I really like the LS aspect in GW2.
    - This game lacks arena style PvP, which GW2 offers... You know what, GW2 wanted to BEAT LoL by being a "#esports", but you know what, it didn't leech off of what LoL does (tower defense type deal)(TESO leeched off GW2 in my mind with WvW, feels very similar lol), but anyways GW2 went with a conquest type mode, and had a DOWNED state as well, and to be honest, its really enjoyable but what it lacks is a REAL leaderboard, REAL tournaments (IN GAME, 2 TEAM tourney IS NOT a TOURNAMENT!), and what it did in GW1, where the victors of the halls of heroes would get there name shown and make themselves feel awesome because of it. Now I think TESO kinda leeched off of that with so and so drop/taken/whatever the scroll. Even when your in PvE you see it type deal. But thing is, the scrolls aren't really that big of a deal, I don't know what they expect? To have the PvE;ers log into that server and try and prevent the scroll being taken??? Those servers don't even feel that big, and they seem like they always FULL lol. How do I get in and help if the server is full???
    - The fighting in this game feels like traditional MMO, with a little GW2 feeling as in knockbacks and blowouts (well there's a few knockbacks in this game I noticed).
    - This game I feel like when it was developing its PvP, it saw GW2 WvW system and was inspired by that. The original is always the best though, that's why I like GW2 better. This game PvP SHOULD be open world, its designed for OPEN world as in alliances start in there own little area.... However I feel like that since this game tried to take away some of the INNOVATIVENESS of GW2 like the WvW system and copy it and try and be better, that it ruined its PvP scene for how great it could've been. I mean, there is a PvE in this game and a PvP... You could've implemented PvP in the PvE aspect of the game, but did not.
    - Another thing, the crown store, aka the gem store in GW2... GW2 has better selection of outfits, and a lot of them to be exact. This game I don't really care for ANYTHING in the crown store, very sad. In GW2, there is SOOOO MUCH I want to get, seriously. GW2 goes about it better too if you ask me, because you can buy gems with gold, TESO you cannot get crowns from gold. What it does is makes it so if people want the in game currency they just give it to the actual game, rather than to a 3rd party (plat seller what you call it in EQ terms). But yes, the outfits in GW2 are a lot better, sure they are all regular olden day time armor, but they have variety and different ones as well)

You know what, this game feels like a little like Dead of Alive too. Because they keep re-running the same armor modules, in DOA they got lazy and kept using the same skins. That's WHY DOA went out of business lol. Sure the daedric armor looks nice, but it gets old after a couple years of using the same module you know.
Keep using same armor modules, and in DOA they slacked and got rid of them, like DOA 2 there was like 8 different ones, now I think DOA 5 its like 4.... And they use the BAD modules and throw away the good ones... *shakes head* sad, just dumb, they dug there own grave... Feel like Dynasty Warriors did the same thing too, just thinking about the modules, they started slacking like after 4. They just throw out garbage and barely do updates and expect to remain the best. So sad, both WERE very good games.... Now you look at GW2... They didn't use the same modules, WAY different, even though I really miss A LOT of the GW1 skins, like 15k armor and such. But GW2 does a very good job of providing more outfits and such, only thing that game lacks is the characters don't seem to be the focus, it kinda feels like playing a Diablo game with character being seen so far away and not first person view, doesn't feel like a traditional MMO like Everquest, and this game.

Another thing, I feel this game is like SWTOR due to having all voice overs, this is the only other game I know of with all voice overs, and to be honest I don't think all voice overs is a good idea. Because I'd rather read the dialogue in 10 seconds imagining how they'd say it, over waiting ONE or TWO minutes for them to yap super slowly about something that isn't really important. Reading dialogue isn't a bad thing. I'm wondering how EQ Next is going to go about it, if they are smart they wont waste money on having everything voiced. SOOOOO much money sink in voiceovers I just don't get it, hire a bum and save lots of money, I don't understand how games like SWTOR spend soooo much money on that stuff, imagine this game did the same as well. SWTOR went F2P I think, it didn't have a brand to support it much like this game does, I think if this game wasn't an Elder Scrolls game, it would've went F2P too instead of B2P.

If this game wanted to be successful, it should have stuck with what made the other elder scrolls games innovated, and not try to leech off of games like SWTOR and GW2. Things that made other elder scrolls games fun was like giants tossing you 1000 ft in the air, ILLUSION traitline, as in calming NPCs, FURY as in making NPCs fight each other, and so on, I liked playing under ILLUSION traitline all I do is turn the NPC friends into the enemy or FURY the boss and watch all his friends try and kill him and time he dies theres 1 left and I kill last guy type of things. Things like jumping super high in the air ACROBATICS traitline and the jump increase spell. Also running so fast that your literally floating. All those FUNKY stuff is what made the elder scrolls fun and innovative, as well as killing NPCs and taking there home and such, KILLING guards too, just creating CHAOS! But nah it just feels like to me a SWTOR NPC talking wise, EQ2 quest wise, and a GW2 PvP wise. Nothing really stands out in this game besides being an Elder Scrolls. However it does have a lot of potential but people said it was buggy at launch, and it does feel pretty buggy as of now. The music while waiting for load, is choppy. Sometimes when I zone into a zone like the refuge, I'm stuck in the floor and have to wait 3 seconds for the game to take me out of the terrain and properly place me so I can move, these random crashes, oh and I wasn't able to zone into the refuge once and died by a guard because of it LOL. Things I do like about the game is the ROARRR after breaking stun, its just awesome, and I like doing draconic leap, and just those power up type moves that make you feel beastmode, pretty much only thing I like about the game. I just like to *** off the guard, let him fiery grip me and break stun ROARRR. LOL. That's pretty much it.
The dungeons, feels just like any other game, lil like GW2 since you have dodge roll (ANOTHER THING GW2 Innovated that this game tries to leech off of, but ya dodgeroll pretty nice thing) and it shows the enemy attacking you (there attack bubbles) and such, feels just like GW2. Dungeons just feel like EQ2 and lil GW2 mechanics. The Vet pledge sounds like some quest you do in EQ2, cant remember, never made it to endgame EQ2 but sounds just like same thing.

If this game wants to be innovative, implement grappling moves, aka wrestling moves. The next class should be a wrestler. Implement a brawler too. See another thing Elder Scrolls did good was hand to hand that was fun. Also the finishing moves, fun as well.... Yet this game has neither. But back to innovativeness, I don't know any MMORPG that is like this style that allows you to chokeslam, powerbomb, piledrive, suplex, moonsault, backbreaker, you get the point type moves. Where someone can hold you and destroy you, make you tap out and such.

If anything, I don't play sorcerer but seeing PvP videos of them, they seem very lame, its like a lightning on people and that's what kills em. What they should do is have them pick up people with there minds or lightning or something and SLAM them to the ground. Do the epic side effect noises and such too... On the same level as the ROARRR from stunbreak and the draconic leap type noise and what happens to enemy from pouncing on someone else.

Why am I playing? Because its an elder scrolls. I'm not too impressed but I'm trying my hardest to stay motivated, and I'm only lvl 19 so far. Also, that I'm waiting for EQ Next to come out, because I'm an EQ fan over the Elder Scrolls. EQ was my first game and like I said, its hard to beat your first, just like how Quake 1 was my first FPS game (all these other games are terrible shooters)

Honestly the only MMO that I think is better than ESO is Vanilla WoW. I've tried alot of them. I've tried almost every AAA MMO to be released in the last 10 years. The only reason I say that is because I've been playing ESO for a year and I'm still interested. None of those other games lasted that long for me besides WoW. Maybe Ultima Online. I have nastalgic memories of UO.

But in the end, I can't deny the simple fact that I am still playing ESO a year later. I am passionate about changes made to this game.

    I'm still here.

Ive been playing for 6 week or so so far im almost vr 13 with 2 full gear set all my most important skill are level up to max...

And I am very disappointed in this game. I feel like its still a beta ( maybe my standars are too high after playing blizzard games for years... They would never had released a game like eso is right now in its current state 1 year after the launch...... It would still be in beta cauz at blizzard they wouldnt had felt the game is ready yet and would have pushed back the release for 1 year+)

But Im still here and gonna hang around because this game is sooo damkn big and has so much potential.

Ill probly hang around for the next 6 month to see whats coming after console release(also really dissapointed they let pc down for console ... they should had make a console Dev team and keep there pc dev on the pc). Ill keep giving my opinion and advice on the forum. Hopes it goes the good way...

I played WoW from the beginning till ESO came out. Vanilla wow lovers seam to forget the huge grind it took to get to 60. I loved it I wont argue how amazing it was. It was epic to travel form Desolace to Scarelet Monastery when in the 40s. Getting yoru first mount was beyond cool and as a warlock that I played the huge sums of gold I got for summoning people to the wilds were ever I was.

There is nothing like this in ESO There is no great epic anything really. No grand quest except the main story and silver and gold. Neither of those are that interesting and neither feel like an achievement.

The mentor system in City of Heroes was awesome. Actually, the 'community feel' of that game was one of a kind to this day, and I believe it was mainly because of the Mentor system. When you can have higher level SG teammates scale down to help you in any phase of a quest, it took away a lot of pressure to get to max level ASAP because you can play w/ your friends anytime. I could spend a day just hanging out w/ friends on that game. Maybe decide to do a quest with them later or help out the lowbies when they need it. Fool around in the arenas or go the the war zones if we feel like it.

Don't even get me started with the costumes and character customization. You can spend hours just fooling around in the costume shop.

Another thing I would like ESO to have is a functional LFG tool.

ESO is a beautiful game and the world looks alive. But if you turn the music off while playing, you will immediately notice how lonely of a world it is, even when grouped with other people.

First of all I would remove anything forced on players. It starts with guilds and trial groups, it should be optional and not forced.
A good MMO allows everyone to be a part of the game and not only a few selected individuals. Right now we can not trade unless in a guild, we can not do specific zones / dungeons unless in a premade. Ultima Online offered such a system as it simply put didn't had a group interface. If you went into a dungeon and someone was there already, then so be it. Nothing is worse in an MMO than being put into an instanced world alone or with your premade.

The second step would be a good social system, a system where you can build a house based on your progress in the game and where you can do social activities with other players. SWG was really good there, when players could build hospitals and space docks together. It was a real achievement and everyone was allowed to contribute.

Last but not least, the game should offer a real char progression that does not depend on loot. We should be able to gain or lose reputation with NPC´s, if we come to late to help someone, then this NPC is dead and removed from the game, just like we could save someone and he or she becomes our companion. Right now if we see an NPC under attack, then this NPC will be under attack for hours...
Our actions have no consequences, someone who murders an NPC and or in future another player, should become an outcast, unable to enter cities without disguise, unable to buy and sell or even talk to vendors.
I also think exploring the game, questing, crafting is way to unrewarding. Trials, Dungeons should never, ever be the only way to progress in an MMO.

I'm mainly a single-player gamer, I've not played many other MMOs (only UO, GW1 and GW2). So it's hard to say what I would and wouldn't take from them.

But I think if I could change one thing it would be how restricted we are based on our alliance (and for many people their race). To me the ability to choose who your character is and what they do has always been a huge part of TES games so the idea that you're assigned to an alliance at character creation and that restricts where you can go and what you can do really bothers me. Especially when we have NPCs who are free to choose whether to participate in the war or not.

I'd much prefer it if you create your character, start off in your alliances area but are free to travel between all the starting zones. Then at level 10 you get the option to choose to join an alliance. Joining one would grant access to Cyrodiil and AvA but restrict you to your alliances area, since you're now one of their soldiers. Not joining one means you can't go to Cyrodiil but can continue to move between alliances PvE zones freely.

Of course this would require changes to several other aspects of the game, mainly the PvE content in Cyrodiil (skyshards especially) so it couldn't be changed now. But that's the way I wish they'd gone at launch.
