I'm surprised not more people use it. I actually prefer first-person while exploring, especially in cities, but I dont use it in combat because it strains the eyes with all the effects.

I do also use third person whenever I wish to see my character, pretty much the same as when I played previous elder scrolls games.

Always - I play in hard mode :)

Third person, seeing what's behind you, is cheating.

In fact, if I had my way I'd get rid of the red puddles - if you don't know what's going on without them then you deserve to die!

Given that ZOS has a very bad habit of spawning mobs right on top of us or immediately behind us, first-person view is a severe degradation to what is already poor situational awareness.

However, when there are beautiful vistas to enjoy, I switch over to admire the graphics. ZOS obviously borrowed Bethesda's graphic artists and they did their usual magnificent job.

Only time I use 1st person is in situations where some geometry is getting in the way of me clicking something while in 3rd person. Otherwise, 3rd person all the way, zoomed all the way out with widest FOV setting possible.

Years ago, in my EQ days, I was a 1st person view advocate. Then I played DAOC.

Until VR14 almost always, and as a tank is quite challenging!

After VR14 almost never so I'd have said 50% but more likely less than 50% than more.

I began using first person all the time, with an add-on to kick me into third person during combat. I find third person combat SO much easier. At first I didn't care for first person but once you get used to it it's really nice to explore in.

Oh, that add-on gets turned off and I go full time 3rd person when in dungeons though ;)

I play ESO for playing an elder scrolls game. I've always played in 1st person with the occasional zoom out to just look at my chars. That said, I'm not about too be an ass on difficult fights in dungeons, so I will swap to 3rd person to avoid uneeded dying or getting people killed. Otherwise it's all about immersion for me.

Pretty much this for me, too.

It's my norm in-combat in other TES games, so I can see what I'm hitting, but with ESO's off-centre third person camera I haven't used it much at all, and reserve it instead for screenshots.

I'm always in 3rd person view myself. I've always played elder scrolls games in 3rd person, I just can't seem to enjoy 1st person view much, but I know many do.

Exactly this for me. Had to delete 1 sentence though.

Hate first person view, it's totally inefficient, use it only when game forces my camera into it, for example in tight spots or tight corridors.

Always (except when riding :/ ). I might make myself get used to it if I grouped but I don't and get dizzy and disoriented in third person. I fall off walls and bridges! It's pathetic, I know.

I don't do it in dungeons and PvP. There's a lot of PvE I need to go through so, yeah, it adds immersion so why not. I love it.

I used at first but after entering Cyrodiil I got more to the 3rd person view.

This was me as well. I remember arguing on a thread here back 8 months ago or so that first person was the best... That is how I played skyrim... but after playing PVP... I reserve the right to change my mind :). 3rd person in PVP is a must... and now I am used to it, so I use 3rd person all the time.

I played in 1st person from launch till I hit V1, then I switched, spent a couple of days feeling dizzy and then got used to it and will never go back.

Except to take some of my screenshots.
Screenshots is what FPM is for in my view.

almost all the time except when in combat, using a bow with abilities like grim focus and camo hunter cover my screen with enchantment effects and I can't see anything.

For me, the first person view has never been good - primarily because you cannot 'free look.'
When you are in first or third person view, and you pan the camera, it turns your character.
If you want to look around you independent of your movement, you have to use the free look feature by holding middle mouse while panning the camera with the mouse.

Unfortunately this only works in third person. While in first person the behavior of the free look mode is wonky and doesn't work properly. It will begin panning the camera to face the direction you want, though when you let go of the button, it sets your character moving in the direction that is about half way between where you originally were heading and where you were last looking with the free look!!

Other games have this problem as well - for some reason they persist to allow the free look feature on third person view only. The rare recent game that I saw allow it for both, was FFXIV and that was only after months of me sending literally hundreds of feed back requests for it.

It is such a simple change to the code, I cannot believe they haven't implemented it yet.

I want to be able to look around me while I am running across the country side, and I want to do it in first person!
