Yeah, my parents have no soliciting all over their door, never answer it etc... If that's the type you're referring to, definitely not me in both physical age and frame of mind. I almost always answer the door if I'm not in the middle of something. It's good practice for them even if I'm not interested and I like to look whoever it is in the eye that's wandering my neighborhood. BTW, I may not make commission, but am bonused on how pleased my clients are. This is not easy, as I'm typically being paid by them to tell them how to run their business better. So whether I like it or not, I'm in sales. Either way, pretty sure you've got me pegged wrong.

I always love the "$" people use to indicate dissatisfaction with a company. Do you think that companies exist in a capitalist market to not earn money? What, exactly, do you want them to do (aside from provide everything for free and give in to every petty whim of the players who complain enough)?

    This is about

ESO having no holidays in game....yet adverting a stupid holiday to sell junk

ZOS absolute silence on the actual anniversary of the game in game....yet adverting to us to buy junk in game

ZOS telling us they wouldn't be annoying with the crown store.....and ppl wonder why dead horses get beat (AH)

They could buy a commercial on tv to sell their game, buy advert space on FB or any number of websites. The last thing they should be doing is flashing ads across our game screen, to sell junk that contributes to server lag without any meaningful contribution to the game (except RP purposes).....and not even a "special sale" like any company does for a holiday.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

Just, with something like this, silence is just about the worst way to handle the situation.
Pretty much standard procedure from this company, right?

    Seems like, sometimes.

Sounds like it's about very serious issues.

A visitor to this thread would be very confused when they discovered that all this complaining is over a 1-second message displayed on the screen.

Even outside of buying commercial space on other media, if they're really going to put advertising in the game they have the launcher (which admittedly I only use for updates). If they're going to advertise directly to players, they could do it on the character selection screen. Most players have alts or mules, and will see the character selection screen several times during gameplay. As long as the advertising doesn't prevent use of the character selection controls, I doubt many players would be overly concerned with commercial notifications there. It doesn't need to be in game, right in the middle of the screen, in a format that can't be turned off.

Again, I'm glad I cancelled my sub. I was one of the beta stress testers, and I really wanted this game to be awesome. It hasn't been. It's been a mediocre experience, corroborated by the mediocre ratings provided by game reviewers (like metacritic \ gamespot \ ign). The in game advertising makes it seem like the game will never achieve the potential it had, that they will spend the rest of the product lifecycle on a shoestring budget, and the improvements the community really wants will never be delivered.

Again, the game is "fun enough" for me to still hope it will improve, but my doubts about the success of that are increasing.

To be fair, a visitor to this thread would be less likely to have heard ZOS promise not to advertize in game, or you know, expect ZOS to go back on their word at every opportunity. But, I get it; being lied to is your thing. To each their own, I guess. It doesn't mean the rest of us have to like it.

Sometimes, it is good to get ahead of these things before they become serious issues.
