Do you want the ability to dye your shield/weapons?

So for how long has this game been out now? Wasn't it about time we finally get to dye our shields? Perhaps even our weapons (even though this isn't as critical.

    First!.

Seriously, I'm annoyed that I still can't dye my shield. It clashes with so many great color combinations, and it pretty much forces me to dye according to the shield.

Let me clarify that when I've talked about dyeing your weapons, then it's only the hilt etc. that I consider for the dye, not the actual blades and such.

Shields are pretty much armor anyway, so it seems an oversight not to have them in the dye system.

And as for weapons, they aren't as important, but it would still be nice to have the option - especially staffs, since they are the biggest and most noticeable weapons.

Yes. Choice is a good thing- it doesn't have to be applied by "default" for everyone. If you choose not to color yours, great. But restricting options for others because of your own personal aesthetic tastes is wrong, period.

I don't care about being able to dye weapons (I mean, sure, give us the option if some people want to be able to dye their weapons, I most likely won't ever bother to dye my own weapons though), but I definitely want to be able to dye my shields. I mean, seriously, historically shields were the most colourful pieces of gear on the battlefield... Let us put colours on our shields!

That too. If I was given the option between being able to dye my shields and being able to put guild heraldry on my shields, I'd definitely pick the guild heraldry. I mean, I'd like to see both options ideally, but guild heraldry on shields would be awesome.

Didn't they add this to DAoC a while back? Been a while- I quit after they added the Champion level system (Darkness Rising?) before the whole Leviathan spiel, but I'm pretty sure they had this. Can anyone else confirm?

I want to run around in a bright pink sword!
The reason weapons aren't and never really were dyed (apart from shows or displays) is that in battle the dye would wear off in no time while slicing through flesh, bone and armour, you'd have to re-dye it after every prolonged encounter.

Staves/shields? Perhaps, but axes, swords and such - no way.

Fair point and very true, but lets not stop there, and slightly unrelated, but uh, what about (and no offence to anyone), in PvP, our glorious warrior DK`s, not in heavy armour and wielding proper weapons and locked in combat, as was shown in the videos for the game, but ...Harry Potter style with bathrobes and staffs somehow surviving a full assault upon them and taking ages to die, ok ye there is magicka regen and blah blah from the game mechanics.

Im not talking about game mechanics, im talking about real life combat, they would be hacked to pieces within seconds and rightly so.

This game, although stunning and fantastic in many ways, will never be realistic, and some common sense mechanics simply do not apply.

So if people want to run about with bright pink weapons, although personally I never would, I say let them, its their game, they paid for it, let them enjoy the game for what it is, a pure fantasy.

    Yes I'd like this.

Of course it should work like armour where it starts off undyed (does that even need to be specified?) and the colours should be 'natural'/reflect the material it's made from. But it would be nice to be able to match it to your outfit.

As someone else said historically painted shields were very common, either with heraldry or simply with patterns/colours the owner liked.

Yeah, i know it's a game and many real world aspects will never apply to it. It's just my personal opinion. I like the way this game has somewhat reasonable and practical armours as opposed to skimpy korean bikini-suits or oversized shed-like WoW armours. (Not talking about the lore or the fact you play catpeople and lizardmen - just armours) But the realistic looking armour when suddenly combined with a bright neon coloured weapon would ruin it for me. The shine from enchantments is just about enough i can tolerate.
    Again, just my opinion.

I would like a bunch of customization options
Things that would make items a lot more interesting:

    1)Dye/color customization
2)Sockets (if Items had 1 ~ 8sockets randomly assigned) that gems and other things can be placed in (and removed).
Its just fun to stack tons of gems into items.I really dont like glyphs I find them lacking/boring, It would be nice to do away with glyphs and just give us gems that add diff dmg types -Topaz for Electric dmg Ruby for fire dmg Diamonds for Cold Dmg etc. . .

Would be nice basaed on how many gems you placed into an item the item (weapons specifically) would start to glow or something, so if you placed like 8 gems into an item it would glow with 8x intensity.
And in order to get that many gems into an item, the item would need to be leveled up (by using it ) or something to unlock the slots.
So the longer you use an item the better it gets till it hits max potential

Or some kind of cool system like that

Just another layer of progression / stuff to do.

Kind of tired of games where you just get an item that adds some trivial stat and thats the end of it . . .

Lol well said, and aye that is fair enough man, I suppose ones at the extreme ends of the spectrum would, as you eloquently said, go about in bikini suits and turn an already fantastical game into a farce, and I would shake my head and walk on, but I would still never take away the right for anyone, even them..., to dye their armour/weapons to whatever they wanted, but as you said, some would take extreme measures and well...

No but there should be other cosmetic customization.

Possibly shields could have guild or faction based even town based design options unlocked after an achievement but dying or painting a weapon....no.
