A Vet suggestion

A new way of looking at things.

This is a suggestion for how to deal with Vet ranks.

First with the Removal of Vet ranks one would be around base level 50, assuming the level cap was not raised. Lets assume that with the removal of the Vet Levels, level 50 becomes the max level.

The First and Major issue will be dealing with gear that is level VR1-14.

Option A: Keep the current set up.
Option B: Gut it.
Option C: Compress everything down
Option D: Move current Vet level resources to Craglorn and Cyrodiil.

I will argue for a combination of Options A and D.

The next issue will be dealing with Skill points.
Option A: Remove the amount of skill points you can.
Option B: Make Sky shards and Skill points gained from quests available Account wide Like champion system.

as a disclaimer there are issues with other skills such as mage's guild as the books needed for rank 10 have to be collected from other factions. However the main nuts and bolts are the same as armor and sky-shard Issues, so My suggestion will be focused solely on those 2 areas.

First when dealing with armor, as part of keeping progression, it would not be useful to simply open up Void Steel armor, to a freshly Minted Level 50, if one could wear Void Steel at Level 50 this would make a fly over for all other ingredients that currently exist in the in-between from level 50 to VR14. this is universal from all other crafting skills from blacksmithing to potion making, people would just want the items that give the best benefit in essence removing everything else from the economy, so in part of the fix is to make things dependent on how many skill points an account has. by making sky-shards apply across toons, this allows new players to gain sky shards from the other factions when re-rolling toons, this would allow someone who has completed all the AD quest lines and starts and EP toon the ability to have more skill points available and access to better armor from the start, making the time to complete quests go much faster, further reducing the time it takes to quest grind. So, by making gear dependent on skill points you keep the progression and at the same preserve the current mats preventing them from becoming obsolete too fast. This would require a player to have a skill point total to use food potions and gear. Moving to A skill point total would allow current Vr14 the advantage of not losing ground, and would allow new player to move up to end game content at a faster rate. concerning Mobs, in order to tell if a mob is going to be hard to fight it would have to be displayed based on suggested skill point total equivalent to the gear that would be dropped from the VR equivalent monster. This of course would push all the Endgame content to Craglorn, Cyrodiil and Dungeons .

This may not be the absolute best way to fix the Vet system, but I feel its the most Egalitarian, Concerning Champion points, This would continue to be an Icing system, allowing any account that has reached level 50 to gain champion points. this way people are not penalized for rolling alts, being that once you complete the story line one, rolling a new player would not penalize you from missing out of a loss of ex for time invested. (concdieration here would be given to skill point total as someone with access to Endgame gear would complete content at an accelerated rate, therefore gaining less xp for having better gear should be considered to prevent abuse.)

Thank you for your time, let me know what you think.

should be option D, but it made option frowny face, because of the colon.

The champion system was a broken mess when it first released. It is also a mountain of an uphill grind. The old VR system (by itself) was miles and above better than this odd hybrid now.

My issue is that I cannot see any way to remove VR without badly altering the current game. Gear/crafting, instance scaling, zone scaling. All of it would require so much work. At this point the less they change, the happier I am. Having to go through another botched gameplay phase due to a new system is unappealing.

You have some cool ideas, although I wouldn't like things being tied to skill points. But can you honestly see them putting the work into an overhaul like this and having even a remotely smooth release?

To answer you question, I cant see having a smooth transition without leaving the bones of the Vet System Intact.
I feel to keep the essence of the current system, they would have finding a way to convert Skill Points to Vet Ranks, I would think that making people have X champion points and creating gear score would be very bad, it would be trading one grind for another. I Suggest using skill points as the new system, because I think it would keep the current system most intact at the same time speeding up the time it takes to grind out Sky Shards and Quest skills.

In order to develop a complete new system such as an eso skill web or something that opens up the ability to truly play anyway you want, it would take extensive play testing and feedback. something that has not happened since the beta and even having the PTS has not safe guarded from bugs and poor performance, but the PTS is a step in the right direction.

So I think a Skill point System would in essence the same as the VR system, it would just make the grind go faster. and would keep the people who made VR 14 at the same Level at implementation. One would still need to grind all the quests and play all the zones to collect the most skill points, how ever doing it an alt at the lower Levels would make it go by faster, It would have the added bonus of letting new players feel like they have to start over from scratch or feel like I did when I hit Vr1 " what?! all that and i'm only 1/3 of the way there." In essence you would still be 1/3 of the way to max, however your skill points and access to Level 50 armor would be available to you at the start of your next toon making the time to complete those quests go by quickly. and even more so the 3rd time around. This would work in getting people to endgame content faster , and keeping the use of the current equipment and mats in the game and useful.

with the Champion system, it is a clone of the Badass points from Borderlands. as long as it stays that way, its a fine system. If it gets tied to gear its just trading one grind to another. It would probably be better if they took out the perks that unlock at an amount gained, and just added more options for customization. For example the crit chance that unlocks the apprentice should just be a node you can put points in. by removing the Bonus nodes, like War mount. it would make the whole thing feel a lot less grindy. keeping the champion system just something that happens in the background as i feel it was intended to feel like.

I hope gear creation, after the VR level removal, is converted to Skyrim style crafting. That way if you want level 50 iron armor, you can make it for a sh*t load of iron ingots per piece.

yeah even with out removing the VR system, It would be cool if this was done at a dye station. since armors come in 3 stages, one could just Dye their armor to be one of the lower appearances if they wanted. I'm sure its something that could be done if people wanted it. but I see as more of an dye system addition than a Vet Rank issue.

I think the current character stats associated with Veteran Ranks will just be converted into additional gear bonuses and that newly created seasonal gear and conversions will be gated by content and/or CP count.
"You've probably figured that out by now. Let's hope so. Or we're in real trouble... and out come the intestines. And I skip rope with them!"

Yeah My hope is that Season gear does not completely replace Crafted gear.
