What's the point? (PC to Console)

gregaw_ESO
I was just about to take advantage of the $20 deal to play on console when I read that I'd be forced on a different server and away from friends?

Is this true, and if so; why would anyone do that?

    Forced on a different server:

-From 2013 ZOS clarified that PC/MAC would never be on the same mega server as PS4 which is also on a different mega server from xbox one. The three groups respectively will not play together as that's always been the plan.

    Whats the point:
-Many people purchased the PC game to have access to the game knowing that their preference was to play on console but due to the delays they would have to wait a year+
-I'm one of those who had no intention of buying this on PC ever but due to the situation I purchased it prior to the announcement after playing many hours in closed BETA.

    Why:
-Because by design this was ZOS's intention from 2012 - 2013
    -PC (PTS)/Xbox One: NewBlacksmurf

^ Hah. I'll see you there.

Anyways, yes.. the whole point was because people who wanted to play on console ended up buying PC because they didn't want to wait another year, they wanted to jump right in to ESO! As well, now these people will not have to start from the beginning.

Thats not limited to a console. Lol. Nowadays you can play games on pc the same way as on consoles. There's almist no difference. Except pcs have more power :p

Yeah, I'll never understand the resistance out there to understand what a PC provides for gaming.

Most PC games on console now natively support the 360 controller. They also give control options.

For those that don't, as mentioned, there are programs like XPadder and Pinnacle (the best) that are very cheap and allow 100% complete control customization, on par with console controls.

Right now, I play this game with my Pinaccle profile that I made, which is superior to mouse and keyboard (in my opinion) in terms of accessing actions via muscle memory for combat, smoothness for looking around, and overall play satisfaction. It has everything mapped. It's all inclusive. When I want to type in chat, I just rest the controller on my couch or table that has my mouse and keyboard. I have my PC connected to an HDTV, and I sit back and enjoy the nearly maxed graphics and 60 fps, which consoles rarely provide.

In a nutshell, a game console is not some special game-playing device; it's just a *** PC that overheats, offers no customization. and provides poor graphics and frame-rate. EDIT: Even more, a *** PC that only does a very specific set of things poorly.

The console is a chance for a new and fresh game without people hanging around that used exploits in the past. Not sure how important this is for others, but if I would play on consoles then this might be my reason to give it a try.

Should the game come out on Console, absolutely. The more the merrier I say.

However given the choice, I would play this game on the PC any day over the console. Simply because of Addon's. As others have stated, you can use a controller if you want on the PC, and you can hook your PC up to the TV in the living room if you want to be on the couch. Plus the game is probably going to be better graphically on the PC (but probably not a huge difference there)

I think the only reason to transfer is people can play with their friends who do not have a gaming PC. Because anyone on the console who has gotten addicted, I mean used to, Addon's is going to be in for a harsh transition.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Consoles may not have all the customization, mods, etc but they also are standardized experiences. Meaning every single sole in the game has access to the exact same features, screens, ui, etc and is all completely even.

Also consoles may not have the power a top end pc does but they have more power then the average persons pc does. yeah gamers with nothing better then to spend a crap ton of money on pc's every single year will output all consoles at all time but the average person doesn't. They buy that laptop that looks great, the pc that was on sale, the mac because apple, whatever and end up with barely better or often worst then current gen consoles.

Not to mention its a lot easier to tell the wife you're going to spend 500 every few years on a console that you can use while sitting next to her on the couch then 1500+ on a gaming rig that ill end up having sitting in my office and have to play games on in a different room.

PS - xbox 360 had heating issues but i have yet to have issues with my xbox one or ps4....

1.) The Xbox 360 didn't have overheating issues. Unless you blocked it's ventilation, like any PC would. It had a batch of consoles at release that were made with poor quality solder, resulting in failed connections at normal operating temperatures.

2.) Consoles aren't *** gaming computers, they're subsidized gaming computers. An Xbox One or PS4 does compare to a $750 tower today. Their business model is that the company owning the platform gets compensated by a cut of the game sales and service subscriptions. Game consoles are gaming computers for people who aren't willing to learn how to maintain gaming computers. This goes all the way back to the NES, which was one of the first affordable home computers.

3.) You don't need to spend "a crap ton of money" on a gaming PC, what you need to spend is time and effort learning and building it yourself. A $900-1000 tower is the sweet spot, greatly outperforming proprietary gaming computers while not paying for diminishing returns. Critically, you don't have to buy the whole thing at one time. Moreso, once you've joined the club, upgrades aren't mandatory at any time because advancing technology doesn't invalidate the existing capabilities of your platform. If all you want to play is DOTA2 or TES:V or Counter Strike or Starcraft II or Diablo III or World of Warcraft, you can build a $500 computer and do that indefinitely.

I have tried both Pinnacle and XPadder with ESO as I prefer to play with a controller, but have never found one that allowed me to access all of the menus the way you can with full controller support.

Would you mind sharing your Pinnacle profile?

I've honestly been considering buying an XBox One just to play ESO with full controller support. I've I don't need to do that, you've just saved me $350. :)

You would get rekt, son. Even in an MMO... possibly moreso in an MMO, playing PvP against computer users would absolutely ruin your experience.

You're asking why you can't bring your paintball gun into a real warzone. You don't want it. The doughy inaccuracy of gamepads is the reason I have an Xbox One, so when I get frustrated or just too drunk to keep up I can go fool around in the kiddie pool with my water wingies on. It is that bad!

I got it just in case I feel like playing on an XBox One. May not happen very often as I plan to stick with my PC version and I'm not sure I can play games any more without a Naga and keyboard; but theres always something casual feeling about being on my recliner, with nothing on my lap, just a controller and my big screen.

I think the answer to this OP's question is "because you can."

Due to gamepads being inaccurate trash in aiming games, for one thing melee will be way more viable. Eso is very forgiving with no lead times and soft lock, but still. It will be harder to pick someone out of a crowd. It will be harder to track them once you have. The community will be smaller, and very different. Fewer people will be both skilled and equipped for PvP.

Every one of these cross-platform games, the strategies are totally different on the console favoring up-close spray and pray, and that will be the same for ESO. Sometimes it's a good thing, other times like with Battlefield 3-4 or Titanfall it's horrible and results in unused weapons.

The main reason I'm not porting to my Xbox and playing parallel or even trying it is that I know one thing:

Console communities communicate poorly, if at all.

This game requires a lot of communication to make things, well, happen. These people don't have keyboards, and when they have mics they don't use them. When they do it's often open mic the whole time for the whole room, non-stop expletives of the worst kind, or just e-peen boasting contests.

My favorite is the Diablo 3 players on Xbox One braggarting their characters after Blizzard nerfed the entire game into the ground.

But consoles have their own oddball advantages here or there. Exclusive owned games, Halo, Bloodborne, etc. Fewer people cheat their gear in Borderlands. People can cheat their gear in Diablo III. Or play single-screen co-op, which is riotous. Destiny's two "raids", as expansive as they are, are the best co-op shooter survival levels I've ever endured. I definitely think Forza is one of the best arcade racers out there.

Hey guys. Glad to see some discussion.

I used to agree that PC gaming was very expensive, but I no longer see it that way. Graphics have sort of stagnated. Games haven't really improved technically upon Crysis 1 on PC, art and aesthetics aside.

I built my current PC over 5 years ago. Since then, I've swapped the graphics card a few times, and swapped the HDD to an SSD. The SSD swap costed me 250 dollars. Not much.

Every time I switch a graphics card, I sell my old one for approximately 100 dollars less than I paid for it. This way, after you make that initial 600 dollar investment on the top single flagship card, you only need to spend another 100 every 2 or so years to stay at the top of your game (pun intended). As for the other components, it's really only every 5 years that you need to rebuild a full machine.

To be honest, I'm still running a q6600, which I'm running at 3.6 GHz on air cooling, and it runs everything from Crysis to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to.. ESO.

All in all, I've spent about 600 over a period of over 5 years, and been able to more or less max any game, which really isn't that much.

I still buy Nintendo consoles (for zeldamariometroid), but I haven't bought a WiiU nor will I until they put said zeldametroid on it. My favorite thing about Nintendo is that they don't generally overtax their systems--those games run at 60 fps.

I can look into uploading my Pinnacle controller profile.

I play with my PC with sofa + controller + TV. Every game.

The console version is all this effort just to port a buggy game to make a version with worse graphics and frame-rate, all so that people can do what I'm already doing with the game. :/

Seriously, though, the best that can be hoped for is that it brings in more money for future development.

Agree. I play games for entertainment. The world of Elder Scrolls has become an entertaining escape. I can only re-watch Game of Thrones and LOTR/Hobbit trilogies so many times! :) I don't play it to prove to myself what a bad @$$ I am. Not that I'm criticizing those who do. If challenging yourself to the max is your way of blowing off steam, be my guest. I might not beat you in PvP, but I'm not going to stress about it either. :)

Although with my current setup, it's custom built PC, HDTV, recliner, keyboard on lap, mouse on the arm of the recliner. Not too uncomfortable. But a controller is just a much less intrusive interface.
