Add more transparency to end of campaign reward mechanism

Hey guys,

yes, another request-thread made by Legedric...

This time I am asking for some UI adjustment so we will be able to see if our current leaderboard position in AvA will grant us no reward at all, the top 10% or even top 2% reward at the end of the campaign.

I already tried to create a UI addon to achieve this but sad enough, ZOS isn't providing an API function to get the total number of currently listed players in a leaderboard. So in fact you only see your own rank and the top 100 at max using your journal ingame.

In the past this led to some confusion for some players as you assume you may be granted a reward at the end of the campaign because of your own leaderboard position. But surprise surprise... you did not receive anything, which leads to confusion and sometimes even to rage as you simply do not know by what difference you missed the top 10% for example.

Proposal:
In my opinion this should be pretty simple, just display a small icon next to your own leaderboard rank. This icon would change for one of the three reward types "None", "Purple loot", "Golden loot" and the tooltip would just display the following "Your current position is inside the top X% of the leaderboard".

This would at least make some of us happier so we know: Ok, I am 1% short so I will have to work harder on this.

This is already in place for PvE in a similar way, at least in PvE you can see if you are in for a weekly reward or you dropped out and may have to raise your score in another run again. I'd like to see the same for AvA as well.

i usually home a char there the last day, and just divide his rank w/ 25 ap (i take 1 resource to get on the board in effectively last), and .02 * X and you have the cutoff roughly. Last time on EP it worked out to around #91 being the gold cutoff due to about 4600 ppl homed on thorn.

What I'd love to see is if instead of random loot, it was a number of purple or gold quality tokens that could be turned into a vendor. For some campaigns players bust their rump for 30 days only to receive stuff none of their current characters or builds can use.

Um .... in the spirit of sharing information and increasing transparency, can anyone translate for the lowbies with no vet level characters?

I have no idea what this is about.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.

if you get high enough on the leaderboards in any campaign, when it ends and resets, the top players are rewarded with "better" gear/weapons... currently it's the top 2%, but the only way to figure out if you are in the top 2% or not is to figure out how many people are in the campaign. An easier way like a UI addition would be nice

    Thanks for a summary.

I don't go to Cyrodiil often and I doubt I've ever actually looked at a leaderboard.

So the X-day campains get ... tallied at the end? What contributes? No, wait ... it's got to include kills of enemy players. That's probably what's fueling the "lets kill off the wandering PvE'ers, cause we are so bad*ss" vibe.

    Crap.

OP, just home an alt into the campaign, do something to get like 100 ap and check your faction leaderboard spot. That will give you a good idea of be number of ppl homed in the campaign, from which you can extrapolate what top 2% is.

    No, not gonna happen.

I want the game to provide a transparent mechanism to see what I am up to and not to play a guessing game based on my own workarounds.

Last night around 10pm I homed an alt on Chillrend and made about 400 AP (ran to a resource and killed a couple people).

Overall (all players from all factions), the 2% magic number was 93.

I've been told / read conflicting details - is it 2% of each faction (each faction has its own calculation), or 2% of overall (everyone together in the full list)?

This reward system is kinda strange, some transparency would be nice.

I had a character level out of BWB on like day 2 of the 5 day campaign cycle at 4th or 5th on the leader board. I logged out and changed my home campaign to thorn, then 3 days later I got a master weapon for my participation in the BWB campaign. I was under the impression that leaving the campaign removed a person from the leader board, and even if it didn't remove me there is no way my position would have held through the next 3 days.

That scenario pretty much threw all of what I thought I knew about the end of campaign reward system out the window.

@ZOS_GinaBruno if we could get some clarification on the actual reward mechanics, that would be nice. I managed to get my NB into the mid 70s of azuras star after switching it to my home two weeks ago. Two days ago I used my Templar to estimate the percentage required; one wall repair (28 AP) put him at rank 4666, which means that at a minimum 2% was rank 93 and below. Only received random purple drops today on my NB. Do we have to be active for the entire campaign?

EDIT: if I open a support ticket, would a GM be able to verify the rankings?

Well, I just had the same issue on Haderus now.

Haderus EU ended yesterday and I was active throughout the whole week having a ranking at 26 (overall, something like 15 for DC) when I went to bed 3 hours before the campaign ended.

Some friend of mine just joined Haderus and made like 50 AP and was on rank 2100+ (overall, 800 for DC) on Haderus, so after my calculation you should get the 2% reward as soon as you get on rank 42 (overall, 16 for DC?) at least.

All I got was some crappy purple boots which really makes me upset. We invest so much time into thses campaigns to have a vague chance on a golden item and then the game just plays tricks with us and the devs laugh at us.
This is not what I want to invest my time and money on...

I already opened a ticket but who knows what they will tell me... this is nothing more but a blind lottery game.

    Hmmm.
This sounds something like what GW2 is doing
GW2 hides your real MMR, people have no idea if they can get +3 points for winning or lose -3 if they lose.
ESO hides your current position on leaderboard leaving you unable to tell if you made the cut for purple or gold item too.

Games just love to hide things in this era.
Back when I started gaming. StarCraft era.
You see your wins losses draws disconnects.
    And your MMR.
No one that played StarCraft was left clueless about anything because it showed you it all.

Which of these 3 games were highly successful.
    Oh ya StarCraft was.
Pretty much destroyed every game out there until LoL came along.
Than StarCraft 2 was made, never played doesn't seem that good anyways, just like all these other new games out in this era.

Back in the StarCraft era, there was so many GOOD games out, left me broke and still wanting to buy games.

Nowdays, I have sooo much money. I WANT TO BUY GAMES. But all the games are crap. Leaves me rich and hardly anything to play.

All you hear people say is "just playing this game till another good game comes out"
Basically "game sucks, but there's no other better choices out right now"
Back then you didn't hear that, that often as you do today.

You know in college they talk about the monoculture.
Well I think that's what's happening right now.
I mean, back then in the 90s and early 00s, pretty much fierce competition between people which made things as great as they were.
Like WWF was competiting with WCW, and lemme tell you, those were the days.
StarCraft competiting against Age of Empires, and like 4 other games I cant really remember off top of my head.
Everquest was competiting against all those MUDs.
Quake was competiting against tomb raider, duke nukem, 007, all those other fps games.

Nowdays I swear theres like hardly any competition at all.
Like WWE games, they all merged, theres no more PS vs Xbox vs Nintendo wars.
No more video game companies trying to make the best WWE game, just one company now, and they suck.

Pretty much everyone merged and game qualities have gone down the drain.
They may run under a different name, like ZeniMax and ArenaNet and whatever, but they all could be working for the same person.

Just like how Procter and Gamble does business.
You may love Tide and hate Gain or other laundry detergents, but they own all of them LOL, you just don't even know it.

Same could probably be true in the video game industry because the quality of these games of late. Garbage.

Just so people are clear, it it top 2% and 10% of YOUR factions population, so you will need to be comparing your rank in your faction compared to the number of players ranked in your faction. it sounds like some people may have been trying to compare overall rankings.

also, OP has a valid point, it would be useful. but seeing as it is unlikely for a convenience feature like this to be added anytime soon. just use an alt.
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.
